Happy Holidays, Henry Brown

By Reid Wilson

The war over Christmas is back, thanks to Rep. Henry Brown (R-SC), and he wants you to cut out that happy holidays nonsense.

Brown introduced a resolution 12/8 that would recognize the importance of Christmas, its symbols and traditions, concerned as he is about the rising tide of political correctness.

"I am perplexed by the mounting discussion surrounding the 'proper' way to commemorate December 25th. Why are we hard-pressed to say 'Season's Greetings' or 'Happy Holidays' yet, urged to avoid pronouncing the Christmas holiday and steered away from wishing others 'Merry Christmas'?" Brown said in a statement.

"I am troubled by the growing sentiment that the phrase 'Merry Christmas' is not appropriate and I am worried that attempts to celebrate a 'politically correct' holiday season may cause the loss of some of the traditions sacred to this widely celebrated holiday."

Indeed, the scourge of the "happy holiday" is creeping into all levels of Dec. In fact, Brown's opening line refers to "[t]his holiday season."

What, not this Christmas season?

This is the HOLIDAY season, not the Christmas season.

Christmas is one day, or maybe two. I always say Merry or Happy Christmas on Xmas Eve and Day, because that is Christmas.

But there is also Chanukah, New Years (a federal holiday, BTW), Thanksgiving (another national holiday) and Kwanzaa and other holidays in the season.

That's why you say, "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings" for most of the end of November and December -- because it is the Holiday Season, you dumbasses.

And it's Channukah and the Winter Solstice too!

Republicans don't understand that this is everyone's America. And in everyone's America we have HolyDays. And these HolyDays, now called Holidays, aren't Christian only.

PC is getting far over the top. Im glad someone from the majority is standing up for themeselfs! Why should chrisitians be afraid to celebrate christmas in public and in our schools? Why is it minority groups think they can push around the majority? America is predominantly a christian nation, so why cant we celebrate christmas, as our forefathers did. If people dont like christmas they can go somewhere where their religion is in the majority.

Mark, I'm glad you pointed out the celebration of Christmas in the schools. Public schools are one of the biggest forms of social welfare in this country. If you want your kids to get an education on the public dole, you should be grateful for all the Americans who have provided it for your kids. People on food stamps don't get to use their money for whiskey and cigarettes, and people using our American public education don't get to use it as a platform for celebrating unicorns and holy faces in grilled cheese sandwiches.
