GOP Insiders Sour On Palin
A poll of GOP insiders suggests that ex-AK Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has little support among the party's professional class -- and maybe that's just how she wants it.
In a survey of 109 party leaders, political professionals and pundits, Palin finished 5th on the list of candidates most likely to win the party's '12 WH nomination. Ex-MA Gov. Mitt Romney (R) was the overwhelming choice of the
Voters were asked to rank 5 candidates in the order of likeliness to capture the GOP nod. The results:
Likely To Win WH'12 Nomination (First place votes)
Ex-MA Gov. Mitt Romney 81 points (62%)
MN Gov. Tim Pawlenty 46 (9%)
Sen. John Thune 38 (12%)
MS Gov. Haley Barbour 28 (6%)
IN Gov. Mitch Daniels 25
Ex-AK Gov. Sarah Palin 25
Rounding out the top 10: Ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich, ex-AR Gov. Mike Huckabee, ex-FL Gov. Jeb Bush, LA Gov. Bobby Jindal. Candidates other than Romney, Pawlenty, Thune and Barbour split the remaining 11% of first-place votes.
Meanwhile, Dem insiders too think Romney is the most likely candidate to run against Pres. Obama next year. The results, from interviews with 111 Dem insiders:
Likely To Win WH'12 Nomination
Romney 29%
Thune 15
Pawlenty 13
Daniels 11
Gingrich 6
And Dems are even less convinced Palin is a serious candidate. Just 3% of Dem insiders said she would be the candidate running against Obama in '12.
Then again, Palin fans can take heart, given just how long candidates have to go until the first nominating contests. In '06, insiders predicted that ex-Sen. George Allen (R-VA) would be the GOP nominee, and that Sec/State Hillary Clinton would easily win the Dem nomination.

Governor Palin is exactly right to distance herself from the GOP establishment. These are the same people who thought John Mccain was a serious candidate and who hired Michael Steele to run the RNC. If Palin hadn't been running with him, Mccain would undoubtedly have lost to Obama by 16 points instead of 6.
Assuming she wants the job, there are very few Republicans out there who can command the type of following among independents she does, and she's positioned herself exactly right if she decides to run.
Watch what happens.
At this point, of those listed, Palin is the only one that I believe has any kind of core and that I would vote for. Last time I checked, that means that there are 109 who won't vote for Gov. Palin. I assume they are the same group that looks down on the common man--who happens to have one vote apiece.
Palin may be the common man (or woman) but I prefer to have someone who also has experience and economic smarts to be the President of my country! Mitt Romney is the total package and will bring all his business know how to help fix Washington. After we are done with Obama people will be ready to get back to electing the best and most prepared person for the job and not the most "rock starish." I find Palin to be more about tabloids than actual intellectual smarts.
Romney 2012!!
I think Michael Murphy epitomizes a GOP insider. A bloated slob who has spent his entire career feeding off the beltway trough, selling his political soul to the highest bidder and when he can't find any takers, offering his services as a backstabber for hire on the Sunday talk shows. Pure scum.
As for Palin? Her timing couldn't be better. An America loving patriot who I can trust.
I would guess we are talking about the same GOP insiders who abandoned the pricipals of their party and their constituents. Of course they object to Sarah Palin. She represents the vaues and people they have forgotten in their quest for political power. Their lack of enthusiasm for her as a candidate is one of the better recommendations she could have.
Mitt Romney won't get the nominee in 2012. He is not a true conservative. Romney is like another liberal Democrat. He is done! It is the news media taken polls. I think Palin might run in 2012. She is a true conservative. If she doesn't run, Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana might be a good choice.
Have to agree with those who think that winning this poll isn't good. How many voters will respond positively to: "VOTE MITT THE CHOICE OF THE PARTY'S ESTABLISHMENT"?
It's almost like Palin is paying the Beltway types not to support her.
Being shunned by the Big Government Republican Party is an honor, I'm not sure the word "sours" is apropos.
The GOP will blah blah blah small government blah blah blah all the way through the campaign, then get right back to growing government as fast as humanly possible.
Romney the RINO! How's that MA Gov't Healthcare Program going these days? Just what we do not need - another liberal politician in DC.
No thanks!
Yeah baby...Romney all the way!
The reasoning goes against the grain of the current political conventional wisdom. Palin’s relationship with the Washington GOP has been chilly ever since she vaulted into national prominence as the running mate for Sen.
I will give money and make phone calls for Palin.
The GOP establishment is hated by the party rank and file. Old ,tired out, apparatchiks willing to sell out their own wives and Mothers to retain some power. They better retire or they will complete the GOP fragmentation they started and the Tea Party movement will replace them. They are kind of like The Whigs of the 1850's. Walking dead that don't realize it yet.
It isn't surprising that the people who put the party in the crapper and chose a RINO as their nominee in 08 would favor a RINO and diss a conservative.
The GOP establishment is an obscene joke.
Palin is (if she runs) the best hope we have to get things somewhat back to normal. As for experience, there's more there than Obama's!
Washington doesn't like her because she is a light shining in there darkness!
Mitt Romney isn't a Conservative and it's very telling that these Republican Insiders don't want Palin. She's going to change the face of the Republican Party. Let's just see who turns out for whom in 2012.
This year alone Sarah Palin will make a difference on how many Conservativs WIN GOP seats. Sarah is going to be someone to "reckon with". Better wise up, GOP. There is a new awakening in America and Sarah may be leading it.
The more they distance themselves from her...the higher her public ratngs go. Both parties don't get it....They never will. It is painful as an independent to watch this.
The inside the beltway establishment Repubs don't like her because she has principles. Ask yourself how many of the "selected" few have families that you would like to meet and that you would expect to make you feel at home?
Mitt Romney is dead to me politically. Right now, today, America is one Senate seat away from total socialist control. The special election to fill Ted Kennedy's seat could give the GOP the one vote it needs to put up a game changing filibuster. Mitt Romney is the one "republican" who had the best chance to win that seat. He declined to run. I guess he didn't want to risk anything so close to 2012. Screw you, Mitt! In 2012, every conservative will remember that when faced with a tough challenge, you sat idly by and did nothing for your country.
Palin has my vote. Palin has my trust.
I think Sarah Palin would be more effective anointing someone rather than running herself. She could then be active supporting an agenda rather than a campaign. She has ideals which are worth supporting, and knows that it isn't about her, it's about our country and those important principles. Romney is preferred by party insiders because he is the candidate who most resembles those party insiders, not because he is wildly popular with the masses, or resonates with serious conservative voters.
What a surprise, GOP insiders love Mitt, dislike Palin.
Dear Mrs. Palin, I don't think you could have asked for a better endorsement than to have the GOP establishment turn their collective nose up at you.
Dear Mr. Romney. Put a fork in it, you're done. The GOP insider blessing is the kiss of death.
These are the same "Party Insiders" that gave us President Obama and Democratic control of both houses of congress. I'd say having them "sour" on someone is a vote of confidence for actual Americans!
Sarah Palin is the polar opposite of Obama. She is for small government, personal accountability, national defense and security. Her persona couldn't be more different.
By the time the 2012 election rolls around, the last thing voters will be looking for is some wonkish (Romney) candidate who speaks in consultant language (i.e., alleged extremists) or legal-ese.
With Sarah, what you see is what you get, no high-brow.
Um, to everyone above me: Are you really that vapid? Palin WAS the darling of the GOP right up until it turned out that her entire life was in a shambles due to personal life issues, quitting the job she was elected to, showing that her ability to speak to the media or anyone at all was somewhere just slightly above Bush quality. Her lack of real diplomacy (something the President is supposed to have) and her complete lack of the social skills needed to be a world leader. We're not trying to elect the PTA President here people, we're talking about the highest office in the land (some might even say the most elite position in the free world) and you want to put Sarah Palin there? What has she EVER done that makes her in any way shape or form a good choice? This "insiders" nonsense you're all spewing all makes it seem like a vast conspiracy and I for one am tired of all that tinfoil hat tomfooley.
Maybe those insiders can play with themselves in 2013? We will be rocking the house with Palin!
Screw the insiders. We need more outsiders.
Romney was already toast before this vote of confidence (healthcare mandates will be toxic in 2012 regardless of what happens with Obamacare.)
None of the top 4 choices will be candidate in '12. They either elicit suspicion or boredom in the base.
The only possible candidate who can get us out of the Obama-nomics is Mitt Romney. Sorry for those of you who are too short sided to see that he is the one person who can lead this country our of recession and to the greatness Americans deserve.
And Dems are even less convinced Palin is a serious candidate. Just 3% of Dem insiders said she would be the candidate running against Obama in '12.
And yet they make the effort to belittle and demean her every chance they get--you don't see them doing that to any of the others. Is it fear, or is it sexism? Maybe both, since the Dems by and large are both cowards and hypocrites.
That said, although I agree with s watson that Palin is the only one who has demonstrated both that she has core values and actually lives them, I also think she needs to demonstrate foreign policy smarts and (dare I use the term?) "gravitas" to have a serious chance at the Presidency.
She's already demonstrated executive ability (in my opinion, more than Obama has even to this day) as governor of Alaska, and has shown some talent for political infighting there, but let's face it, Alaska is a small state, politically speaking, and for whatever reason she didn't do well in a hostile media in her first chance in the big leagues. She needs to change that impression and make people forget that she resigned as governor, which doesn't sit well with people irrespective of her reasons. If she can take on the lamestream media and make them look like drooling, babbling fools then she's got a good shot in 2012, irrespective of what the party biggies say. (Voters and money-raising ability trump everything else, and Palin has a lot of both, but not enough, yet.)
If she can't pull that off, then Milwaukee is probably right that she would be more effective anointing someone rather than running herself, at least for 2012. After all, she's young and could come back in 2016 or even 2020 with a lot more notches on her belt.
No one person will lead this country out of a recession. We the American people will do that if washington insiders get out of our way.
you can always tell how effective a candidate is by the criticism they receive from the opposition party. sarah is in their heads and she is the one they fear the most. how sweet would it be for a real person who is down to earth to defeat an empty suit robot like obama. go palin
rick
MK in Arizona -- I take it you haven't read Palin's book?
"Rock star" and "tabloid" don't come near "hard working," "practical" and "for America."
And this person is not stupid.
And why is it that Palin can make liberals wet their pants?
Don't know what's going to happen. It will be interesting.
Of all those 'candidates', Governor Palin is the only one who is make regular clear statements about the problems facing the country, and recommendations of goals and purposes for the future.
I suppose the MSM is so disinterested in the others that their current messages don't ever reach the public. That's rational for media who installed the current President and are still in such thrall to Him that they'd feel like traitors for investigating alternatives from the Other Party. But somehow Governor Palin gets her Facebook remarks out to blogreaders, and even the MSM is so fixated on her that they sometimes cover her positions, if only to set her up for one of their attack poodles to take a bite of.
Lord knows the Republican party is NOT doing what Palin is - recommending goals and principles. It has staked its remaining life on being not-Obamas, and waiting for the 2010 election to fall into its lap. Humph. I don't go supporting no reactionaries - I want their clear goals for governing, in case they actually win some elections. Until they present some in an articulate manner (what a vacuum the Bush admin was on that score), my nickles and dimes will go to individual candidates who do so.
You guys are totally out to lunch on both Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich. There are three people who need to be chosen to run this country. Huckabee, Gingrich and Sarah Palin. Those three have more integrity than all the rest of the guys on your list, pus the entire Congress and Executive Branch, at the time. You're missing it, big time.
Wow, everyone here (well, nearly everyone here) thinks Palin walks on water and the GOP establishment sucks.
While I agree with the 2nd part of the sentence above, I really, really do NOT agree that Palin walks on water. She is exciting; she gives a good speech; she is "downhome." What she is not is experienced; she is also not able to speak on foreign policy, fiscal policy, or many aspects of domestic policy.
She will have a difficult time in a seven- or eight-person debate where she only gets 2 minutes to speak at a time. She will have a very, very difficult time in any serious media interviews as she has shown that to be an achilles heel.
Ogrepete,
You must be joking with your recommendation of Huckabee. What a total joke he was.
If you're ready to bring America back, then join us at Mitt Romney Central dot com
Go Mitt!
No way on Huckabee or Romney - and Freezing out Ms. Palin means my checkbook is frozen to the party.
Here's a warning for the GOP who try to stop Sarah Palin of others with true grassroots support, if you block us, we'll run on your own.
I think Palin is the favorite to win the nomination *as long as* the GOP establishment doesn't actively try to block her. And if they do, then I think Sarah should run as the candidate of the Constitution Party (or the Tea Party).
Palin not loved by the insiders? Wow, did she pay someone to have this poll published?
I'd walk ten miles barefoot over broken glass to vote for Sarah Palin. The rest of them, the party had better send a car and hope I'm in a good mood.
Didn't that bunch also rate Reagan, how did that work out?
I love folks who say Gov. Palin lacks experience when she had the most executive experience of all the candidates on both halves of the ticket. Hasn't the past year taught people anything about why Senators (especially 1st term Senators) make terrible Presidents? There is a big difference between being on a committee and being the boss - Palin has experience in business (where you don't say "The buck stops here" and there are no consequences; the wrong biz decision and you lose your house). I was concerned when she walked away from the governorship, too, until I did some research and realized she and her small staff were paralyzed by FOIA requests and bogus ethics charges - nothing she wanted to accomplish for the state was allowed to happen. She stepped aside to leave in place a kindred spirit who could actually get the business of Alaska done.
This is hilarious. Governor Palin's fans are as utterly befuddled by reality as she is.
The first commenter declares, "there are very few Republicans out there who can command the type of following among independents she does," when seven out of ten independents say she's not qualified to be President, and that was before she quit her job, (though I suppose you could argue that he never specifically claimed that her "following among independents" was a positive one, simply unique.)
Another commenter: "As for experience, there's more there than Obama's!"
Right. She'll be running on her "executive experience" against the President of the United States. That'll be a winner.
Another commenter chastises Romney for not running for Ted Kennedy's seat, claiming that Romney had the best chance to win that seat. In 2008, Massachusetts voters' party identification was 45% Democratic vs 19% Republican, and it was Ted Kennedy's seat. Curt Schilling wasn't going to win that seat as a Republican.
We've got someone who asserts "you can always tell how effective a candidate is by the criticism they receive from the opposition party". If that's an accurate statement, then the GOP shouldn't bother running a candidate in 2012, because apparently President Obama is the most effective candidate ever.
What the Republican establishment/insiders/whatever you want to call them want is what they always want: to win. RINO or not, Senator McCain got moved into the forefront because everybody with a clue knew it was going to be a bad year for Republicans. President Bush was tremendously unpopular, the economy was tanking, and outside of the Republican base, there was a national consensus that invading Iraq had been a mistake.
The only possible choice was someone who could successfully distance themselves from the damaged national Republican brand, and since Mayor Giuliani's strategy of attempting to avoid losing primaries by simply not campaigning in them had a rather fatal flaw, that left Senator McCain. Like him or not, no other candidate would have made it within six points, especially when the Democrats selected then-Senator Obama, who had significantly greater appeal to independents at the time than then-Senator Clinton.
What kind of year 2012 will be remains to be seen, but as much as her fans would like to blame Governor Palin's public perception on "the media", it's largely been the same media we had in 2000 and 2004. With Governor Palin, unlike with President Bush, it's not just the left who is convinced she's not up to the job. Whether she's going to be able to change that perception in two years without holding office is something I very strongly doubt.
Sadly, the Christian Right has made it very clear that they will not vote for Mitt Romney because he is a mormon. (I think that the Christian Right was totally suckered by the media on that, you pushed the 'scary mormon! scary mormon!' button over and over again.) But he won't get anywhere without the Christian Right.
There are some extremely perceptive people commenting on this thread. I am impressed. I have my own opinions about Palin, but neither she nor anyone else will ever, and I mean ever, get the presidential nomination without the support of the GOP establishment. Not being a member of that group, I don't know who their real pick is, but it isn't Romney. The person I suspect of being their pick has not been mentioned here yet. We'll see.
One has to laugh! The INSIDERS who have led the GOP to a disaster are sour on the very person that can dig the party out of the grave.
Of course, they are sour on her!
She will make them totally irrelevant.
The smell of those apparatchicks' fear is even detectable from as far as Australia.
It is a time to realise that it is GOP that has to adapt to Sarah Palin in order to survive and not the other way around.
Who needs GOP insiders, except Mr. Stiff, Mitt? Mitt has authoritarian socialist MittensCare chained to him, which he forged with the Louisiana of the north. Mitt, home boy of ..er Utah, or is it Michigan..no it's Massachusetts or is it New Hampshire or California now? Rootless, vapid, plastic, fake, processed, another Harvard law drone.
And of course a big spender, which the Pro's love. '
'
Palin has been opinion wise kicking Mitts paid for hacks, weeks ahead of Mitt's bland, processed boilerplate, if any, appears in some dead tree media.
Plain writes in declarative sentences, Mitt approves hackneyed strings of tired GOP boilerplate.
Mittbot has no, zero support, save hack, fraud, bought David Keene, and dewy eyed Mormons, amongst Conservatives. He's also too old, too slow, and a wimp. He doesn't believe or fight for anything. I can see why the hacks and Democrats love him, as they should.
The Palin detractors just don't get it ... they are stuck in the conventional wisdom that it is more important for one to look and sound "educated" and "Presidential" than it is for them to possess common sense and true wisdom.
They have fallen prey to the same expert-worship that gave us a President that is far less qualified for the job than Gov. Palin ... a Treasury Secretary who had trouble doing his taxes ... a set of Best and Brightest in government and finance that ran this nation into the ground ... and the current gaggle of Washington insiders who think that playing the gamew of politics is the easy shortcut to good governance.
We the People are now getting tired of electing those who think so highly of themselves that they deign to solve our problems FOR us, yet have no real chance of doing so ... We the People now are looking to someone who knows both his/her limitations and the capabilities for problem solving possessed by the 300 million problem-solvers that have been marginalized by Washington.
That person may just be Sarah Palin.
The GOP has proven time and again it serves no useful purpose for conservatives or the nation at large.
No national strategy, no compelling personalities, no ideas, no spine. The default party.
We should be looking for a candidate who stands for conservative principles, doesn't need a teleprompter to remind them what they believe. Someone whose values reflect that of the majority of the American people. Someone who doesn't say one thing, yet their life and voting record reflect something else. We need a candidate who resonates with the American people, not with the Washington insiders. That candidate is Sarah Palin!
Those who say Palin will not succeed without the Republican insiders are wrong on many counts. First, as many have pointed out, the base is not happy with Republican insiders. Second, the insiders will have to go with who will win. Sarah will win and this is proven by the Left's visceral disdain for her. As far as those who believe she does not have enough experience or education, they are applying a standard that they fail to apply to any other candidate. There are so many who fit the inexperience description and yet never are linked with it. The reason? She is female and attractive. Forget it folks, she is the real deal and she embodies a quintessential American persona, that after what we have been through with this idiot savant citizen of the world Obama, will be something our country will be in deep need of and will respond accordingly.
Let's be clear about something. The Beltway G.O.P. disdains Palin and her family because, well...they remind them of the weekend help they hire to do contracting work around the estate. Without being so...how shall I put this....Mexican? The Beltway G.O.P. are the same chablis and bris crowd who thought that the Bushtard wing of the Party was just fine as it drove the Republican brand into the ground. You can see why they slaver over Mittens so much. He's One of Them, and probably plays a good game of squash.
If you want to know why the G.O.P. "insiders" are despised by the rank and file, look no further than this poll of the clueless. I'm surprised one of the consultants did not remark, "Let them eat cake!"
Just look at Massachusetts - is that what you want? Mitts a dumbass - I saw him at some county fair drop a piece of chicken on the ground then put it back on the grill. GOP = EPIC FAIL.
America needs Mitt Romney .....now!
Three years is a long time to wait for Mitt.
Make no doubt about it the Democrats and their close pals in our liberal/progressive MSM wolfpack press will do EVERYTHING they can to de-rail Mitt..............
We The People must stop them.....
If they continue to ignore their base and not support Palin....it will be the end of the GOP. Palin our gal! Gop insiders??? haha one hundred votes against a couple of million.....not supporting the GOP until they get behind Palin and the kind of leaders we want! Nope not a penny.
Good. If Palin ran, Obama would win in a 40 state landslide. Use Palin for fund raising and get-out-the vote stuff, but keep her off the ballot. I guess I should thank the Left wing haters for this; have heaped unmitigated filth on Palin and her family for a year, they've basically destroyed her. And that means the republicans will run a much stronger candidate with a much better chance of unseating Obama. I can't wait.
Hmmmmm.
1. It's not my job to vote and support Republicans.
2. It's the Republicans job to provide me with -conservative- candidates that I want to support.
3. Mitt Romney?
Not a chance. We're talking about a guy who is definitely center-left but pretends to be center-right. We had enough of that in GW Bush so no thanks. Plus there is Romney-Care in Mass. that has turned that state's budget into garbage and is busily bankrupting it.
4. Tim Pawlenty?
Who knows? Nobody I know even knows he is a Republican. He definitely needs more exposure.
5. John Thune?
I contributed to his campaign because he was in position to knock out Daschle but he hasn't exactly offered up anything to wow me since then.
Presidential material? Only compared to Obama.
Then again the stuffed bear Teddy Ruskin is comparable to Obama.
6. Haley Barbour?
What I know of him I like ... but no national exposure so far.
7. Mitch Daniels?
I know ziltch about this guy.
8. Sarah Palin?
Like her, love her, hate her. There is nobody in America, or practically on planet Earth, that hasn't heard of her and has an opinion. I'd be inclined to support her just to aggravate the lefties. The talking heads on MSNBC would explode on election night if she won.
But she definitely needs to prove herself capable of the job.
9. Newt Gingrich?
Does not induce enthusiasm.
10. Mike Huckabee?
Yeah because we need more rapists and murderers to get pardoned.
And let's not forget that interesting quote of his about reforming the US Constitution to match the Bible. Not a game-winner of a concept.
11. Jeb Bush?
Maybe it's just me but NO MORE BUSH candidates!
No! Not now. Not ever!
No more Clintons either while we're at it.
12. Bobby Jindal?
*shrug* huge potential, maybe, but doesn't fire me up.
...
Frankly there isn't a lot of there ... there in these candidates. Perhaps one of them will break out of the pack. But frankly the only one that has a real chance of kicking ass is probably Sarah Palin.
And as for the "insiders" of the GOP: Kick'em all out.
Conservatives need to ask themselves what's more important: actually defeating Obama/Pelosi...or nominating a candidate (Palin) that they're in LUV with. I say defeating Obama is the priority and the best option as of today is Romney. He's fully vetted (no surprises in his closet), has a pile of money, has low negative ratings (a key metric if ever there was one), and his area of strength is the economy...precisely where Obama/Pelosi are weakest. It's very hard to defeat a sitting president; Romney has a shot at it...Palin has NO shot at it.
It is amusing that people keep wondering if Palin will run for president. If I, sitting in the boondocks, could see that Obama, a Marxist with no executive experience whatsoever, was destined to be a disaster, certainly Palin would have seen the same thing from her much better vantage point. The Republican nomination in 2012 will be a valuable prize and she must have understood this even when so many Leftist pundits predicted that Obama was a sure thing for two terms.
Obama may need a third party candidate to split his opposition in order to win re-election in 2012. So maybe the question for Republicans in 2012 will be which candidate can best keep the Tea Party people from forming their own party and thereby re-electing Obama. That would have to be someone who is not identified with the party insiders. Some well-publicized disputes with the leadership and the elites would be useful. Who might that be?
The GOP needs to stand up for its self and not roll over. This idea that we must be so upper class and be niceeeee what is the deal with that??We need to go for the heart not just sit their like a wet dog.Well all I would like to see is someone push back hard so the Question is who?? Who ever stands with the conservatives and has a pair will get my VOTE no need for a wet dog. And no BS the need to be True to the people or no VOTE for them( C-Span king ) Don't you wonder about the BS WE need to call them on this
I can see the "GOP Insiders'" campaign slogan now: "Yes, we stink but at least we are not Socialist like the Democrats." I would prefer someone who gave me a reason to vote for them and I don't see it in Romney, Huckabee, or the others mentioned. I like Jim DeMint, James Inhofe, and Sarah Palin. As a Catholic Conservative (one who attends Mass), I have no problem with Romney's membership in the LDS, I do not believe that he is a proponent of limited government. As a previous commentator said, we had enough big government with GWB.
As I recall, the party hacks didn't care much for Reagan back in the 70's either.
Romney = Romney- Care
Must I say more?
For one to claim that Governor Palin has no "business experience," shows little research has been done into her career. Aside from her private experience in commercial fishing, her job as governor also qualifies as "business experience." Governor Palin's "business experience" comes with the negotiations and dealings she has had with one of the most powerful industries in the world: the energy industry. This includes the negotiations on what will be the largest private infrastructure project in North American history. Governor Palin has successfully negotiated new tax structures, lease deals and other issues that arise in the Alaska energy industry.
At the end of the day, Governor Palin negotiated billion dollar deals with one of the toughest industries in the world.
She also did take on the old-boy network — the oil companies and her own party — and won
Well let's update this:
I suspect some might argue it might well be important for a President to be educated and Presidential, not that appearing intelligent and worldly is important or anything.
Everything else? Yeah, that she's gonna need the prompter for.
Can the "the left doesn't like her so she'll win!" meme die already? The left doesn't like Romney or Huckabee or Gingrich or anyone else on that list, either, much the same way the right didn't care for any of the Democratic candidates in 2008.
That's only an asset if the opinions people have formed are generally positive. They aren't.
Russia blocks her view.
This just goes to show just how far off track the GOP has gone.
Romney? The guy who brought universal health care to Massachusetts? No thanks.
In case you hadn't heard, the universal health system in Massachusetts is failing, just like everyone who values free markets and freedom knew it would.
We need someone who espouses free market principles, not just someone who pays modest lip service to the free market around election time. The GOP establishment likes Romney because he's a progressive like them. The grassroots; the Tea Party; the disenfranchized conservatives; the libertarian-leaning; we all want someone who stays true to the principles of shrinking government and staying the hell out of our way. The Republican party is just like the Democrats in that respect.
It is time for conservatives to give these bums the boot.
She was never in with the insiders. The insiders gave us McCain and we all know how that worked out. This is obviously a way for the insiders to try and beat back her because with her in there they lose their power.
I think the biggest cause of liberal's 'visceral' disdain for Palin is her visceral disdain for them. She's made it crystal clear that she doesn't consider them 'real Americans'. Who wouldn't have contempt for someone who feels that way about you? Reason #2 would probably be her celebration of ignorance as superior to knowledge.
Sarah Palin is a joke. She already proved how completely unqualified she was in 2008. Now she has quit as GOV and done nothing to improve her readiness for the biggest job in the world. Anyone who thinks she's got any chance to win in 2012 - or any other year - is either lying to themselves or genuinely stupid.
This year will be the test for Sarah Palin. If she is out on the campaign trail speaking well for conservative candidates, then she'll be the odds-on favorite for 2012. She could have more face time this year than in 2008 and voters will form their impressions of her from what she does (or doesn't do) this year than from the short 2008 campaign.
Some of you are so busy trying to put lipstick on the pig, you can't see the Elephant in the room. Palin is not qualifed. She quit the governing of AK to chase the cash - and she bailed because she was waaaaay over her head. Perhaps if some of you got off your knees long enough to stop kissing her ring, you'd actually be able to look around and find out that she is the least qualifed to run this country than anyone out there. I don't want jane or joe sixpack sending my sons into war. I want someone crazy smart like Romney or Thune.
Chosing the bimbo who breeds, palin, will freeze MY checkbook. Huckles the clown will have that same effect.
Is this some kind of joke?
It should appear in "The Onion".
Who would admit to being a GOP insider, operative, etc.?
And how successful have their advice, opinions and actions been in recent years?
These are the same political technocrats and functionaries who drove the GOP into obscurity.
The party insiders and self-described "smart" and "intelligent" types are infected with the same idiocy that plagues the socialist dems. Sarah Palin's appeal is that her message reflects the American nation's spirit of its free-thinking, free-acting patriots.
Mankind's most noble experiment must be preserved, and at the moment only Sarah Palin seems to have figured that out.
Hey, I'm supporting Scott Brown because he's H O T! Did you SEE that Comso spread? Younzzzzza! What's his experince? Who cares! He's HOT! Oh, he's GOP? Even better! He's HOT!
This is what I hear about Palin. You can't give me any reasons to actually support her, other than she's HOT. See how shallow that sounds?
Sarah is the only one of whom we can say, "I know what her values are." And, in the end, that is what defines a President. If you doubt, look at McCain, look at Obama.
Romney is just another political hack.
Huckabee thinks flashing his dimples will dispel recollections of his pathetically weak standing on prisoner furloughs.
Pawlenty is a RINO hiding beneath a Conservative cloak.
Gingrich: All I can say is he did a 180 on TARP within a period of 3 days -- way back in the Fall of '08.
If the Republicans do not come up with a plan and a candidate representative of America's Conservative tradition they won't last long even in they win by a landslide in '10.
Republicans must:
1. SWEAR OFF EARMARKS
2. MAKE VOTE-BUYING BRIBES ILLEGAL
3. BAR LOBBYISTS
4. RESURRECT THE IDEA OF FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Can they do it? We'll see.
The professional class in the rep. party are as clueless as the liberal Democrats. They are just asking to blow the next eleection and it is not just support for Palin. How easy to blame her for your faults.
Others have said it but it bears repeating: Palin might be savvy, might be capable, might even be exactly what this country needs, but she is unelectable.
Yes, she had more experience than Obama and was more qualified to be the chief executive than he, despite being only the vice presidential candidate.
But now she's quit; whatever her reasons were, however justified she might have been, she quit. Her political foes will handily eviscerate her not only for quitting, but for subsequently (so far) doing nothing more than writing a book and engaging in public speaking tours.
She fundamentally is not Reagan in '78.
Nate, thanks for proving my point ...
... all the intelligence and education in the world is WORSE THAN USELESS if you lack the wisdom to apply it properly. We are seeing that played out right now, with the arrogant intellectual elite that runs Congress and the White House right now.
Sarah has the wisdom to adhere to sound principles ... in particular, to not marginalize the 300 million best problem-solvers in this nation in favor of a few Best and Brightest that you might consider "educated enough" ... and more than enough intelligence and education to handle the rest of the job.
You lack the wisdom to accurately perceive that, apparently ... along with a lot of others.
And to those of you who bring up the "quitting" talking point ... keep in mind that Mr. Obama quit the Senate, to move to the White House. At least Sarah treated the Governor's position as a full-time job while she was there, more so than Mr. Obama treated his Senate seat as such.
And Mike, it is now quite apparent that the liberal elite's disdain extends not only for Gov. Palin, but extends to ANYONE who dares to stand in their way of Saving the Legacy of Woodstock Nation. Pot. Kettle. Black. At least Sarah's honest enough to realize that there are some things that are beyond compromise, in contrast to the professional/political class in DC.
And just WHERE do you get that she celebrates ignorance as superior to knowledge? My question to you is: do you celebrate knowledge as superior to simple wisdom?
To some of the commenters here, please explain to me why Palin is so great.
She is a Republican Obama: inexperienced, opportunistic, non-committal and unreliable, reliant on charisma and celebrity, from a political minority group, a supposed "outsider" that will somehow change Washington, and adored by an out-of-touch grassroots.
Regardless of political stripe, how is that any better than what we have now?
Excuse me while I go make another donation to SarahPac....
Why can't we look for a candidate who, like Palin, supports conservative principles and who, like Romney, is intelligent? Why do we have to choose between the two? There are several in the party. Rep. Jeff Flake from Arizona comes to mind but there are others. He doesn't have the name recognition of the other two but couldn't a grass-roots campaign fix that.
Palin is a buffoon and Romney (along with Huckabee and Pawlenty) is GWB II.
To all the Romney supporters, come and live in MA where we were given Obamacare oh I mean Romneycare a few years early. It's bankrupting the state, increasing waits for doctor visits and will be costing me a few hundred dollars this year because I didn't sign up. This was Romney's plan; he got it passed and then defended it during the debates. Thanks Romney, exactly what we DON'T need.
Way to go Palin! I think you are the only future for our country. I personally am sick of the Republican Party. Micheal Steele and those who think like him are doomed to their own stupidity. I have been a Republican since my first vote 38 years ago but when the Republican Party is run by Steele and McCain it's time to punt! I personally like the free spirit of Sarah Palin. That's what made our country great in the beginning and it's the only thing that will bring us out of the sewer that the corrupt politics of the past has put us in. The Republicans will not leave the game when it comes to playing footsie with the Dems. The Revolution is on and I want a Patriot, not a parrot!
Read up on the history of Ronald Reagan's rise and eventual Presidential win. The GOP and Democratic establishments said very much the same kind of things about him that they say about Sarah Palin until he won the Presidency. After that is was been cherished as the great communicator etc.
The elite political class thinks they are the kingmakers and anybody that threatens that power is denigrated. Of course the truth is the people decide their leaders and so they chose Ronald Reagan much to the chagrin of both party establishments.
Those who say Sarah Palin does not have the qualifications to be President need to only look at the qualifications of Obama, McCain and Biden.
Obama the single term senator that spent most of that first term campaigning for President and was a community organizer...wow...amazing credentials.
McCain and Biden are both career politicians that thanks to staffers rarely have to do anything for themselves. They don't read bills they vote on and basically only recite carefully prepared speeches or talking points.
Keep in mind it is career politicians and their self serving indulgences and privileged attitudes that have driven this country to the brink of bankruptcy.
“GOP Insiders Sour On Palin”
Let’s put our trust in the “GPO Insiders”?
To quote Dr. Phil: “How’s that been working for you?”
The "GOP Insiders" became the “Democrat Lites” - spend too much, too many earmarks, too much corruption, not willing to deal with illegal aliens, to busy getting rich at the public troth - not as awful as the real Democrats and opened the flood gates for the Obama Chicago socialist disaster.
If the “GOP Insiders” are so intelligent (and Obama is even more brilliant) and Palin is so stupid, lets give stupid a try. Honest, decent, pro-American values and, according to the Democrats and “GOP Insiders” stupid. She’s got my vote.
Probably need to poll "regular, hard working Americans" to get a real grasp of what most voters want.............most of the GOP insiders are pretty full of themselves...........
Funny Stuff. The GOP insiders never thought Ronald Reagan was good choice either. Funny thing is...voters have a tendency to elect people they want. Palin has about a year to continue building her image and so far its working slowly but surely. If you need proof...just check out her facebook totals in relation to anyone else on the insider list. If the GOP ever embraced her and opened their arms up to the people who are true moderates and slight center right...they would destroy the Democrats in 2010 and 2012. The problem is the insiders are why we are in this mess in the first place.
Not a chance in heck Palin will even get out to DEBATE...not unless you pay her.
Has she ever showed up ANYWHERE for less then $100,000.00 these days, you´re kidding yourselves.
Palin only does the shimmy to the tune of KA-CHING $$$$$$$$$$$$$. When the money song starts playing she starts to writhe!
To treat her as a regular public servant is delusional.
She´s in this for the cash, folks...no fuss no muss!
2012 is a long way off. GOP insiders didn't like Reagan either - until he carried them to victory.
2012 Popular Vote -
Palin: 50%
Obama: 48%
Paul: 2%
to O'rourke-alakans get c check from the oil deal-she cut the cost of government-if she sees a beter way to do something, she goes for it no matter which party-read her book & check the facts-wherever she served in Alaska, she left with positive results. Those who think she has no class, look at the two who sneaked into the WH-their attitude towards England and France and their gifts to foreign dignitaries shows no class. One thing Sarah is, is patriotic, we don't seen that anywhere in the "sneakers" presently in the White House. Romney & Palin or vice versa, suits me-she's all American. Family problems, so what, we all have them-surely you don't think the WH is Camelot-there's something wrong there too!
Mitt Romney is the next Ronald Reagan ......a real Republican who was on the Republican Club in college.
Mitt's parents were live long Republicans were very well repected in Michigan were Mitt's father was a very popular 3-term governor
No one who ever ran for POTUS has the experience and leadership qualiities that Mitt has in private, non-profit, and public sectors.
Mitt has put together great team is all these sectors.
Mitt also brought health insurance to eveyone in MASS without raising taxes and the programs is running BELOW budgeted expectations despite all the LIES on this post that it's breaking the budget there, nonsense.......
Mitt Romney...........2012........It's his turn !
That's an excellent point, Rich. If bad things happen when you elect highly-educated people, the fault must be in the fact that they are highly-educated, and clearly the solution is to elect people who lacked the ambition and the ability to excel in their young adulthood.
Brilliant.
And I appreciate your efforts to rebrand Palin's populist mishmash and rhetorical trips to the zoo into "wisdom" and "common sense". Nothing less than Palin's "wisdom" could create such clear-headed and common-sensical brain-droppings as these:
Yes, the answer to all our problems is an outsider. Specifically someone so far outside anything having to do with national politics that she didn't know what the Vice President, the job she was campaigning for, actually did. Because that sort of knowledge is a barrier to common-sense wisdom. Thanks Rick.
Thank you Gullyborg! I feel the same way about Guiliani, who would cake-walk in to the Senate over Gillibrand in New York. But: for his own "personal" (read: self-absorbed, monetary) reasons he declined to run.
So in Massachusetts we have the sole old-guard GOP politician who could win, and again in NY, with both taking a pass. At the expense of the country. Could this lead us to Sarah Palin and tea parties?
...
I sure hope Mitt Romney does not win. He made a mess in MA and left. How will he explain that away his healthcare failure that to this day doe snot work in MA? If you are going to confront One Big Ass Mistake America Obama on healthcare, what will he say...mine failed too. Give me a break. We need new raw talent that has not been corrupted. Mitt is a good ole boy and I would rather not have another one of them. Palin and Pawlenty maybe.. I rather see Newt Ginrich or someone else that is not on the radar screen yet.
The 2012 ticket will be ROMNEY / DeMINT. DeMINT a Romney pal and Tea Party darling will help bring the to parties together.
ROMNEY / DeMINT in 2012
A UNITED FRONT!
You can't say Romneycare without saying Romney first.. Enough about that hack...
Huckabee? The same guy that lets any criminals out of jail by the bushel for saying they are now Christians... No chance...
The ONLY chance we have to take back America is Sarah Palin or Glenn Beck...
So happy for this poll. It shows that good old Mitt will destroy that hillbilly Palin in the primary and take on Obama
I wish the GOP would wake up and get in the game WE NEED THEM ALL! AND THEY ALL HAVE A PART TO PLAY IN 2010 AND EVEN MORE IN 2012. SOME BODY TELL THE GOP INSIDERS THE PEOPLE WILL TELL THEM WHO IS IN ----- AND THE INSIDERS ARE OUT.
The truth is that the GOP will not allow Palin to get close to the nomination and her supporters will still have to vote for Romney because she will have to endorse him. Her supporters will still vote for Mitt because they will never vote for Obama. So the GOP still wins
I was a Rep for years until John McCain chose Mrs Palin as his running mate.I was prepared for Lieberman, and I would have voted for them even thoe Lieberman would not have been my first choice. But the choice of Mrs Palin caused me to re register as an Independent, and cast my vote against Palin, meaning it went to Obama.I know a lot of others who did the same, along with many who just chose not to vote because of her. The real truth is that she is a negative know nothing with no ideas, just talking points, and questionable integrity.
If Romney is the nominee,I will return to the GOP and vote for him, because I would not shudder interror at the prospect of him in the White House. The idea of Mrs Palin dealing with foreign leaders and her unemployed house husband hosting them ,terrifies me.I truly believe we would become enmeshed in a world war of epic proportions because of her lack of knowledge and her tendency to act first and think later.
Then again,as long as she had a good VP ,she could get elected as POTUs,gaurantee herself a lifetime pension and healthcare, then just quit and let the vP take over. She has experience with that. When the going get tough, the tough get going, and Mrs Palin keeps going far ,far, away
I guess I must have missed it.....the American voters did not elect McCain/Palin because Palin's strength was that she was female and good looking and a breath of fresh air and a good cheer leader and could energize a crowd. She caused McCain to lose because she was dumb as a rock and had no more foreign country experience than looking out her window and seeing Russia. Are we now saying that she quit her responsibility of being Governor because she figured going on a book signing appearances to places where she was greeted warmly on the campaign trail but could not be questioned by the media; using her special needs child and unwed teenage mother as political props to gain her attentio; and her parroting exactly whatever Ruch Limbaugh or Glenn Beck say -- has this made her a stronger and more experienced candidate for 2012? Sarah Palin is certainly a negative, bitter, angry lady who has made millions because she recognizes the problems in our Country but she has had no work experience solving the problems. If you still think that Sarah Palin is most qualified to run our country because she can regurgitate what is wrong, let's look for Joe Six Pack to run with her. I personally want someone a little smarter than this bimbo who after months of prepping by the GOP, thought she was debating Joe O'Biden.
The only problem with the GOP, is GOP "insiders". They will not get my vote or my money until they understand that Sarah has the vision for the future of this party.
I'm as conservative as they come, and no way in hell will the GOP get another dime from me ever again until they start fielding conservative candidates. Sarah is the only one who even comes close. All you libs pretending to be Republican voters had better get used to the reality of this. Millions just like me would rather vote for her on a third party ticket and split the vote than hold our noses again for another RINO like McLame. NEVER AGAIN.
At least then I can be proud of my vote. If it cements the libs in the halls of power, then so be it. Let them own all the disaster they will have sown by then.
But the GOP will be to blame, not us. If they refuse to adhere to their stated principles, then they deserve to die politically. If believing in the wisdom of our founding documents makes me a "tea bagger", then so be it. Let me know how they feel on your chin.
Go Sarah,,, she may not be the brightest star, but I'd bet she is 20 times more down to earth than any politician in any party. I'd trust her a lot more than I would any person in national politics for over 5 years.
Don't fool yourselves. If by some freaky remote chance Palin were to get the nomination, say hello to another four years of Obama rule. There won't be a country left.
Sarah Palin is the best thing to happen to America since Ross Perot. Why do you think she generates so much intense support? She's REAL, she's PRACTICAL, she has COMMON SENSE, she isn't beholding to a ton of special interests, and she LIVES IN THE REAL WORLD.
Why do you think she generates so much fear and hatred towards herself? See the above.
RUN SARAH RUN
Face reality. Sarah Palin is the biggest threat to the Republican establishment since Ronald Reagan. Personal attacks against this woman have failed. He became the political comeback person of the year because of her being herself. Her policy positions are on the side of the majority of Americans. She is able to articulately contrast common sense conservativeness versus the socialist ideology and policies of Obama, Reid and Pelosi. Those who are stupid enough to challenge Palin's experience yet voted for Obama are merely a bunch of hypocrites who shouldn't' be taken serious. Palin has executive experience on both the local and state level where Obama had known prior to a year ago when he was sworn in as President. Those facts can't be disputed. Her foreign policy experience stemmed from when she dealt with the Canadian government regarding business and oil dealings. I 100% trust Palin's judgment. With her I know she wouldn't try to ram a socialist rationing health care bill down my throat. She would do everything possible to get the private sector hiring again.
I am a little tired of the comments about Sarahs experience.A former governor 0f the largest and richest state in the USA. Sarahs record is head and shoulders above the other contenders and on a different planet to Obamas. Due to its location and proximity to Russia The national Guard and USAF are on almost permanent standby ,The Governor has access to Defense Dept Intelligence that NO OTHER US GOVERNOR has. Her record as a state governor gave her the highest approval rating of any state Governor. Of course she has some faults,in the eyes of the GOP. 1,She is a politician of high integrity.2. She refuses to put party before Country.3. She took on her crooked republican cabal in Alaska and brought charges against her predecessor. No wonder the GOB are running scared. Imagine a president who is honest, trustworthy and patriotic. Asshe said in her book. She never forgets that she is employed to serve the people who elected her.
Will the economy be the big issue 3 years from now, if it is I feel Romney would have the best chance. Will the Issue be the corruption in Washington, And someone willing to fight to repeal bad legislation, if it I feel Sarah could win. I would travel hundreds of miles to hear Sarah speak, there is no other politician that I would even travel 10 miles to hear. I know that Sarah will fight corruption,at ever level. Romney at best would just turn his head. I have read Sarah's Book and understand why she is hated by the some of the right, and so much of the left. she stands for something. quitting her governorship early I feel was very smart. She has made a lot of friends and money. and you need both to run for president. Now she will have to put in time helping conservatives get elected. She as said many times is the closest to Ronald Reagan. And she has the strongest base.
Romney will not be the Republican nominee for 2012. It will be Palin versus Pawlenty. I think Palin will win the nomination. Ten reasons Romney will not get the nomination.
1. He signed a bill into law called Romneycare where state government pays for abortions. That's why he got destroyed in Iowa.
2. He is a Mormon. Mormonism is not a religion but a cult. Once Americans begin to learn more about the religion, evangelical conservatives in general will never vote for him.
3. He has 4 or 3 male children that are not even in the military. He dodged the Vietnam War by avoiding the draft. He is not fit to be commander in chief. How does he respond when a voter asks him why none of his sons is in the military. Also, how does he respond to the draft dodging question?
4. McCain and Huckabee despise him and would never campaign for him.
5. The Mormon religion has racist beliefs and undertones regarding minorities. How can you be the party of inclusion if you are a bigot.
6. He is the candidate of Corporate America and of a privileged wealthy background and Democrats would destroy him.
7. He is a Rhino.
8. He would lose North Carolina, Georgia, Mississipi, West Virginia, and South Carolina against Obama. His arrogance and his disdain for common folks seeps through his pours.
9. He is old, Romney would be 65 years old in 2012.
10. Tea Party members would never support him costing him traditional GOP states.
If you judge a person by the enemies they keep, Palin is #1 in my book.
The GOP insiders are as clueless as the "economic experts" who are "surprised" every month by declining economic numbers created by someone trying to tax us to prosperity.
Methinks they need a new crystal ball....
As an Obama supporter, I'm planning to provide as much financial aid to Palin as the law allows over the coming years. I LOVE her. But not because she has any talent, brains, credibility, or experience (I grant you that she's pretty hot, but clearly not as hot as Sarkozy's wife). Nossir. She gets my money because she is the ultimate caricature of how out-to-lunch the Tea Baggers are. I'm very fearful that Romney would quite likely win, so I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is. Candidate Palin = 4 more Obama years in my book.
Now THAT's a commonsense solution.
I echo that the GOP "Professional Class" is completely out of touch and invoke that they are liberals in conservative clothing, which has been the problem since before Reagan. Those that have said that Romney is the better candidate because "he has the experience and economic smarts to be the President" are part of the liberals in conservative clothing. Comments like that reflect the true ignorance of Alaska politics... Alaska is as close to a sovereign republic as you can get and the Governor of that state is more versed in foreign policy than every President in our history at the time of their elections... bar none. I lived in Alaska for 8 years, and Sara Palin has the skills that are demanded of a President, that are sorely lacked by the current farce we have in the White House.
"Yes, the answer to all our problems is an outsider. Specifically someone so far outside anything having to do with national politics that she didn't know what the Vice President, the job she was campaigning for, actually did. Because that sort of knowledge is a barrier to common-sense wisdom."
Nate, based upon the performance of the vast majority of politicians ... and their proclivity to return to previously-failed ideas of our academic elites ... I can easily make a case that knowledge of national politics is a barrier to common-sense wisdom.
You want more of the same ... when the same has failed us time and again.
The vast majority of our social and economic problems do not need the application of rocket science applied to them to solve them ... they need the efforts and choices of empowered people who are closest to the INDIVIDUAL problems.
Your Best and Brightest, who are far removed from the INDIVIDUAL problems ... by insisting that THEIR solutions are the only solutions, to the point that they remove power from these people by taking away the choices and resources from them to solve their problems FOR them ... are a roadblock to the solutions.
They remain a roadblock, because people like you have turned respect for knowledge and education into blind worship of credentials and position ... and have elevated the Best and Brightest into a priesthood class that are now so full of themselves that they don't know their own limitations when it comes to solving others' problems.
Thanks again for proving my point.
The Left didn't destroy Palin. Plain destroyed herself when she accepted McCain's offer to be his VP candidate, even though she's supremely unqualified and shockingly uninformed on the issues.
Her resignation as Alaska governor halfway through her first term basically ended her political aspirations. No one trusts a quitter.
The GOP better throw its support behind Romney. If Palin is the nominee, Obama's margin of victory will make the Johnson-Goldwater race in 1964 look like a photo finish by comparison.
Romney will destroy Palin and all others and win the GOP nomination. Palin is a dumb broad and should go work as a lap dancer.
The "so called" Party leaders gave us McCain, Dole, DeLay, give me a break. They may raise lot's of money but they are out in left field when picking candidates. Many of us have raised thousands for (R)candidates, and with no help from these republican elites, we've gotten a better return on our money! Hey, party leaders thanks for 2006!
The only shot Sarah Palin has is if she can somehow campaign solely through Facebook and Twitter, because once she has to engage even this "keep it dumbed down for America" media, she will be exposed for the farce she is. She claimed that McCain advisors kept her from real interviews and now has no excuse, but she still prefers to tweet. Know your limitations.
She may have the support of those who gather their political information from spam email an tweets, but even among everyday Republicans her poll numbers have steadily declined.
After 30 years, I no longer support the Republican Party financially, and I have told them so several times.
Instead I now financially support individual conservative Republican candidates, such as Sarah Palin.
The so-called Republican elitists who call Sarah a "dumb broad" show their own ignorance, and we need to wrestle the Party away from these idiots, because forming a third political party would only serve to water-down and destroy the conservative cause.
Bob
It is a given that the most difficult job in the world requires brains. Sarah Palin lacks this minimum requirement. The commenters in this string who site "Going Rogue" as some sort of treatise and proof of Palin's smarts are laughable. The book was ghost written and for the most part is completely unintellible. If we want to win in 2012, Republicans can't appeal to the lowest common denominator. Sarah Palin would be the worst candidate in the history of the Republican Party!!!
"With Sarah, what you see is what you get, no high-brow " . . . . .
In other words, low brow.
No, jon ... you get a real person, who is not so full of herself that she insists on saving us from ourselves.
And "Me" ... if you are placing your hope in politics-as-usual by the GOP, you are misplacing it. It is politics-as-usual, with the GOP leadership aspiring to be elitist Dem Lites themselves, that opened the door to the Dim Bulbs who are now trying to turn this nation Left.
Education and "intelligence" are not going to turn this nation around, as long as the elites insist on saving us from ourselves when and where they do not have the capability of doing so ... no matter what party ... in the name of "leadership".
Honestly telling the American people that Washington can't solve their problems FOR them ... and backing those words with action to both curb the nattering nannies in DC and empower ordinary people ... will turn this nation around.
That is what Sarah and others like her, who have not been anointed by the DC elites and/or immersed in that culture, offer us.
Blow her off ... at the peril of your own credibility.
The ignorance of Sarah Palin's qualifications make me fear for Republicans winning in 2012 more than anything.
Read her book? Obviously not. In it you will find she has plenty of experience to run this country. And since when is the country totally run by ONE PERSON?
Let me enlighten you....Sarah Palin put the best people in her cabinet as Governor of Alaska. Some were Democrats and some were Republicans. So she's bipartisan.
She blew the whistle on corruption in her own party so she has principles.
She was instrumental in getting a contract for the gas pipeline. So she knows how to negotiate.
She cut taxes and created jobs so she knows enough about economics to know how it works.
She cleaned Biden's clock in a debate so she has speaking skills and no teleprompters. In fact the one she had at her acceptance of the VP nomination broke shortly after she began. She did almost the entire speech from memory. Pretty smart.
She has been mashed and chewed up by the media, the liberals and many who claim to be Conservatives some of whom are on here posting.
None of these things make her look like an amateur unless you either are too ignorant to see or don't want to.
The election is not for 3 years and that is alot of time to get schooled on what she needs.
I can tell you one thing. This conservative is tire of the same old crap and if Sarah Palin or someone comparable is not the nominee, the GOP will get no support nor a vote from me. COUNT ON IT.
Romney will win...........no question
Palin should leave the RINO party and make the Tea Party I will never again Vote either Republicrat or Demonrat again!
I can't get over the idea that people think Sarah Palin's decision to resign her post was a bad move. I totally agree with her decision. It was the best for her and Alaska at that time. Now she can get on to other things.
Another point I would like to make, I was told many years ago that to be a success at any job all you need are good people working for you.
Something I think Nobama never learned.
Anyway Sarah you got my vote whatever you decide to do.
If the Republican party wants to win they better start shaping up! NO more RINOs. Romney is one of them and will not get my vote. I am hoping the Tea Party movement gets inside the Republican party and rids the Republican party of the Progressives and RINOs
We need MORAL leaders who are fiscally responsible, will support the constitution and who are for smaller government. And we want leaders who will listen to the voices of the people who elect them and not the special interest groups who feed them.
The thing to note is that while the party-speak has vaulted back right, the same insiders like the same old moderate big government establishment candidates. Their new-found conservatism is a sham, as witnessed by this pole. They seem to want us to come around to their way of thinking instead of really changing. Go Palin, Go Tea Party, Go crawl back under your rock GOP.
A good background check service is difficult to find.
All talk of Sarah's electability is very premature. If she is successful in her chosen course of raising money and helping people get elected in the midterm elections then she will indeed be a force to be reckoned with. She would be able to build from that success to challenge for the nomination. My biggest concern is not Sarah's convictions or beliefs but in who she would surround herself with. Now is when she needs to be identifying the people that could help realize her vision for America not in the madness of a post election victory.
Someone might want to start considering a look into the real world...
Sarah's barely electable, and the people are getting VERY DISENFRANCHISED with the professional politicians that the GOP is touting.
It might be extremely wise to start looking at a non-political candidate - like Jon Greenspon in Montana... Presently the only Republican offically listed as a candidate at the FEC.
His website is: www.greenspon.org
"She blew the whistle on corruption in her own party so she has principles."
----less her being found guilty of ethics violations, her misuse of state funds, and her constant inability to tell the truth; unless truth is now longer a princple.
"She was instrumental in getting a contract for the gas pipeline. So she knows how to negotiate."
----I'll say: Gov. Sarah Palin's signature accomplishment - a contract to build a 1,715-mile pipeline to bring natural gas from Alaska to the Lower 48 - emerged from a flawed bidding process that narrowed the field to a company with ties to her administration, an Associated Press investigation shows.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2008310537_appalinpipeline.html
"She cut taxes and created jobs so she knows enough about economics to know how it works."
----What jobs? Only property taxes in Wasilla were lowered, while she raised the sales taxes. Moreover she increased Wind Fall corporate taxes that targeted oil companies.
"She cleaned Biden's clock in a debate so she has speaking skills and no teleprompters. In fact the one she had at her acceptance of the VP nomination broke shortly after she began. She did almost the entire speech from memory. Pretty smart."
----that is an opinion not shared by the general pubic poll after poll.
"She has been mashed and chewed up by the media, the liberals and many who claim to be Conservatives some of whom are on here posting."
----Ever think there is actually good reason?
"None of these things make her look like an amateur unless you either are too ignorant to see or don't want to."
----She is a self inflicted gun shot wound.
"The election is not for 3 years and that is alot of time to get schooled on what she needs."
----Just the fact she has to shows she has no real interest in the events that shape America.
When one actually takes a good look at her and her history she is nothing but a farce, COUNT ON IT.
"And "Me" ... if you are placing your hope in politics-as-usual by the GOP, you are misplacing it. It is politics-as-usual, with the GOP leadership aspiring to be elitist Dem Lites themselves, that opened the door to the Dim Bulbs who are now trying to turn this nation Left."
---Dear Rich Casebolt, Although I tend to roll my eyes everytime I hear the term "elitist" Sarah Palin is nothing more then politics as usual and one should not shut their eyes to that fact.
Romney? Never! May all RINOs rot!
I find it completely baffling as an outsider why many American’s want to lead by someone is obviously so utterly unfit for the job.
The latest revelations, not from some liberal media outlet but from someone who worked on the GOP election team, is that she had no idea what the Federal Reserve does and was unsure as to why there is a North and South Korea. There is a very long list of these huge gaps in her knowledge, which would normally be sort of embarrassing for anyone who has half paid attention; however this woman aspires to be your President!
And NO this is not a right left thing, i thought Ragen and Bush Snr were great, Bush Jnr, i was not so impressed with and as for Obama to my mind the jury is still out, history will be the judge of his Presidency.
Andy ... at least she admits her gaps in knowledge, as opposed to what the DC elites do: pretend that they have no gaps in knowledge and act ignorantly, to our detriment ... to the point of repeatedly applying the failed ideas of the past to today's problems; in particular, the idea that DC is capable of solving highly-individualized problems FOR the people.
And "Me" ... Sarah Palin is anything but politics-as-usual ... for the professional-political class wouldn't let her anywhere near a mic if they had their way, simply because she has not been groomed and anointed by them to preserve the status quo.
And care to provide more detail on those "ethics violations"? If there were any meat to them beyond the most minor of infractions (i.e. the kind you commit unintentionally because of the twists and turns inserted for political reasons), the media would be all over them. They tried for months to make a mountain out of this molehill ... and failed.
While you're at it ... where has she been untruthful?
Any shortcomings she has are insignificant, compared to a Treasury Secretary who can't get his own taxes right ... and lets the problem slide to the point that they are only dealt with when he is about to become SECTREAS.
And that's only one of many -- Dem and Rep -- examples I can point to for how the DC elites not only are far more unethical than Sarah Palin ... they consider themselves above the law, for they are "better" than us in their own eyes.
This country needs a leader such as Sarah. We desparately need someone with honesty, integrity, & intelligence to run the USA. Sarah kicked butt in the Alaskan Republican establishment and turned that state around and in the black pronto. Read the book. Alaska is the largest state in the union and she worked hard to win.
As for experience, NO ONE has the smarts for knowing all that goes on in the USA. What is required is to pick good and honest experts to provide the information and, then, make the right decisions based on the info. This is greatly lacking today.
You have to read the book. You cannot find out about Sarah 2nd, 3rd hand. From this info, you will find Sarah has the qualities to make a great leader of the USA. I emphasis USA.
Andy, there is reason why handlers didn't want her near a mic. Both the Couric and Gibson interviews were disastrous. There is nothing stopping her now going on major mic shows, yet she still prefers the safety of Facebook, tweets, screened events, and the comfort of softballs from Hannity and O'Reilly. Again, she knows her limitations and safeguards them.
She was found guilty of ethics violations regarding Troopergate, and yes, lied and said it vindicated her. Being found guilty is not vindication.
These are her lies:
Palin lied when she said the dismissal of her public safety commissioner.
Palin lied when she claimed about the Bridge to Nowhere.
Palin lied when she suggested Couric that she was involved in trade missions with Russia.
Palin lied when she denied the Alaska Independence Party supports secession and denied that her husband had been a member.
Palin lied when she suggested that she had offered the media proof of her pregnancy with Trig to "correct the record".
Palin lied when she claimed to have voiced concerns over Wooten fearing he would harm her family.
Palin lied when she claimed to have tried to divest government funds from Sudan.
Palin lied when she recalled asking her daughters to vote on whether she should accept the VP offer.
Palin lied when she told voters she improvised her convention speech when her teleprompter stopped working properly.
....I could go on and on and on. Less the lies bout Troopergate, these are in general innocuous lies, but there is a strong trend she will lie at the drop of a hat.
I really don't understand what it is about Palin people like. If people really want anti tax small Government then obviously Ron Paul is your man as he has always preached it, unlike Palin who was the nation’s welfare queen when it came to Federal funds.
Sorry Rich, I addressed Andy when I meant you.
Maybe it is time to get new leadership in the Republican Party. Leadership that actually listens to the people because the people sure aren't listening to the leadership
Guess again, "Me".

It was the politicians -- a Dem-controlled legislature -- that pronounced her guilty re: Troopergate.
In other words, she was found guilty in a kangaroo court.
The less-partisan Personnel Review Board exonerated her ... and stated that the legislators' special prosecutor was WRONG in their conclusions that she abused her power in allowing pressure from aides and her husband to come to bear against the Public Safety Commissioner.
Ever think that this was not about revenge over a divorce ... that instead, Todd was in a better position than most to see how unfit his ex-brother-in-law was when it came to being an Alaskan State Trooper?
The rest of your assertions sound like mere spin. Care to give me some sources for the rest? Leftist blogs and other biased sources don't count.
You can't change the fact that she is anything but politics-as-usual ... and she is far wiser when it comes to foreign policy than the isolationist Ron Paul.
WOW! SOME GREAT COMMENTS by those who support Sarah Palin as a great American. I believe that if Sarah Palin became president, that she would put America back on track of the republic that was instituted by our founding fathers.
Hey keepers of this blog, it was mentioned my last contribution was being witheld for review, was happened to it?

What is really being missed from state to state inmate searches? Is it just a problem if the inmate is in the middle of being charged with a new crime or moving to another location?
I never, ever would have imagined I would need to know this, but thank goodness for the web, right?
