MA SEN Shows Similarities To '09 VA GOV
No matter how you look at it, MA is simply not VA when it comes to politics. But don't tell that to state Sen. Scott Brown (R) and AG Martha Coakley (D), who seem to be mirroring their Old Dominion counterparts in multiple ways.
Coakley and VA state Sen. Creigh Deeds (D) are both life-long residents of their states while both Brown and VA Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell (R) served in their state's House. Each politico has a record of long public service too.
Fluffly stuff aside, take a look at the ads, starting with the GOPers.
Neither McDonnell nor Brown identified themselves with a GOP label or ever mentioned social issues in their ads. Instead, they ran biography videos that displayed sunny optimism and hard workmanship while letting the audiences feel like they know them.
One of Brown's most compelling ads shows him pounding the pavement, being surrounded by supporters, shaking hands, and asking people to support his lower-taxes/control gov't-spending message. Sound familiar? McDonnell did the
Brown is challenging Coakley in the blue-friendly turf of Boston while McDonnell competed in -- and won -- parts of Dem-leaning Northern Virginia (including the counties of Prince William, Loudoun and populous Fairfax). McDonnell made frequent mention of his Fairfax roots; his campaign signs in NOVA read "Fairfax's Own" in Fairfax and "NOVA's own" in the rest of the region. And McDonnell challenged Deeds in other traditionally Dem strongholds, as in another spot where he addresses the NAACP.
A highly lauded aspect of McDonnell's campaign was how he could still hold conservative values while relating to moderates in Dem-leaning areas. McDonnell played up his family as much as possible, too. As ex-Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) said during the '08 pres. race, "I'm a conservative, but I'm not angry at anyone about it."
Brown, too, plays up his soft and fuzzy side, complete with the obligatory "Hey, Dad" from his daughter.
When Brown isolates himself, he is taking on Coakley directly for her negative ads, accusing her of not focusing on real issues while still including a positive spin on his own agenda. McDonnell actually ran more negative ads than Deeds, did but voters perceived Deeds as the more negative of the two because he had so few positive ads toward the end of the campaign while McDonnell had stockpiles.
Check back later today for our look at the similarities between Coakley and Deeds.

Not to mention, Coakley is crossing the legal lines (as a state AG, I might add), into jail time territory. As well as unethical, immoral and corrupt campaigning.
Might want to balance out this piece with the weight of the opposing side.
Brown has run one of the best campaigns in history.
And Coakley one of the worst.
That is why in deep blue Massachusetts you have a Republican who IS going to win Ted Kennedy's seat.
I am hoping you all can get Brown elected in MA! We were able to turn a tide here in NJ so I know you all can do it up there as well!
Thank you Massachusetts supporters of Brown.
Americans everywhere are behind you and hoping you will put the brakes on this hard-left, out of control Obama freight train.
Let's join together and stand strong against the lies, corruption, narcissim and arrogance of Obama. And let's get Congress out of the hands of the insane Pelosi and Reid in November.
Martha Coakley has insulted a large number of voters. Scott Brown was outside Fenway Park shaking hands with supporters. One day this week, Martha said "what do you expect me to do, be outside Fenway Park shakiing hands?" She insulted Red Sox Fans. Thursday on a radio show she said that Catholics who do not want to offer the morning after pill to rape victims "probably should not work in ERs". That insulted both Catholics, nurses and doctors.
Friday night she insulted Curt Schilling, calling him a Yankee Fan.
I don't know if she's turned off any today. I'm sure she'll manage it at this rate.
MSNBC host Ed Schwartz is actually encouraging viewers in Massachusetts to cheat by trying to vote repeatedly--he suggests "10 times"--for Coakley.
And the SEIU union thugs are on the way to Massachusetts to crack skulls, intimate voters, lie, cheat and steal every vote they can.
This is what we're up against, folks. Get out the vote on Tuesday for Brown. There's going to be a lot of voter fraud from the Democrats and union thugs to overcome. Starting with Obama, there's top-to-bottom lies, fraud and corruption in the Democratic party right now.
Will Mitt Romney Stump for Scott Brown to Counter Obama's Visit? http://mittromneycentral.com/2010/01/15/will-mitt-romney-stump-for-scott-brown-in-last-days-of-senate-race/
Good people of both parties are sick and tired of the backroom deals and special exemptions being given out by the Democrats and President Obama in their healthcare bill. We were promised transparency and received the opposite. We were promised bi-partisanship and received the opposite. This president has been the most disappointing politician in my lifetime.
"Hey man, pass me a smoke," Obama said to Axelrod. "Set up a tee time in Boston tomorrow. I'll cut the Coakley thing short so we can get nine holes in and have a couple of beers. I'll have Gibbs tell the media that we're working on the Haiti thing."
Axelrod smiled, slugged the last swallow of his scotch and reached for the phone. "Could I get the number for the Boston Country Club please."
And the Obama con continues.
This really feels like a civil war being fought in our country. I'm so happy to see that most of my fellow countrymen are not falling for politicians that believe more government is the answer.
What we're seeing in these post-Obama elections is people gravitating towards candidates that are "real" and true to their word. Phonies are getting exposed and people really feel like they got duped casting a vote for Obama.
So the SEIU is entering Mass. by the busloads..for what?...nothing legal i'm sure. Maybe DCM is more correct than he realizes with his civil war premonitions....the push back is approaching fast.
Frankly, Coakley is very dangerous. She is a mad dog with no principles whatsoever. A very scary, bizarre, person.
Yep.Ed Schultz is as dumb as he looks.
Nothing says 'clean election' like busloads of union members from out of state.
Massachusetts, if your AG can't run a clean campaign, then you've got a bigger issue beyond who is running for the Senate. But that being said, take charge of your state else it looks like, others will.
It's not just the people's seat, it's the people's state.
His win must exceed the margin of ACORN(Fox).
Here come Obama's union thugs:

If you remember, Robert Gibbs completely downplayed the loss in Virginia when questioned by Major Garrett of Foxnews
Here's the video http://tinyurl.com/yfa9v84
SEIU busing in from out of state. What's AFSCME up to in Massachusetts? Will the Black Panther Party be there---with their billy clubs?
Is there anyone in the media with just the tiniest suspicion about the incestuous relationship between the Dems and the unions? I suspect most of them would return a black stare if you mentioned the name of Kenneth Gladney (black man beaten by SEIU thugs at St. Louis town hall)? And why has no reporter asked President Obama about the Black Panther voter intimidation case, where his DOJ continues to ignore subpoenas from the Civil Rights Commission? Besides unions, are there any other institutions for whom the federal government is now loosening disclosure requirements?
I don't understand the lack of curiosity. It looks like Pulitzer territory to me. But then, I'm not a reporter.
------------------------------------------
Oh, and one more thing. Are reporters ignorant of polling place procedures, or do they simply think they're not important? As a frequent poll worker I know there are rules and procedures. At the end of the day: # of ballots cast must = signed in voters. Ballots issued should = those cast plus any spoiled ballots. Any discrepancies MUST be resolved before ballots are touched and certainly before they leave the precinct. AND a good precinct captain will INSIST both parties are represented once they start investigating a discrepancy.
Yet, every election cycle I read news reports about this or that precinct where the "books" weren't balanced before being sent to election central. Some are an indecipherable mess, leaving election officials to "guess" what happened.
Yet it's reported as some kind of oversight. I've never read a news report that seriously bore down on election officials to explain why the "mess" wasn't dealt with at the precinct level BEFORE the ballots left there. It's a fundamental safeguard of the system, but no reporter seems to recognize how important those rules are.
I'm from the state of Washington. Thanks to all of you MA residents who would vote for Brown. A vote for him is a vote in support of all of us freedom-loving Americans.
Good things for GOP candidates to keep in mind for this year's general election. Of course, what will help them the most is that they'll no longer have to run away from the GOP record because the GOP haven't done anything in 2009 other than say no to the Dem's worst excesses.
In Washington State Gov. Gregoire was elected when they kept "finding" more votes in places like warehouses, going to court, and recounting until they "won."
A few years later the same Washington state operatives who sued/recounted Gregoire into office were dispatched to help Al Franken, and a similar scenario was successfully utilized to "elect" him.
Don't let the unions, ACORN and the Democrats steal another election.
I'm really worried about the unions coming by busses to Massachussetts - this combined by an exhortion of Ed Schultz to cheat gives a bad combination. We have had to many instances where the vote has been compromised - it truly would be sad if the election in Massachussetts suffered the same fate - I've always considered Ma. one of the cradles of our forefathers - save the integrity of the vote - keep your eyes open and vote for the best candidate, vote with your mind and your heart. Good Luck!
I live in W. Mass. and there's a lot of people pretty jacked up for this race. I worked at a call center last night and we've got people helping there from Schenectady, Brooklyn and central PA. We're not used to having competitive races at this level. Even in Mass., people have had it. So far, I have only seen 5 Coakley lawn signs. It's thrilling to see the support for Scott.
If Brown doesn't win with more than 5%, the Dems will steal the election.
My heartfelt congrats to the folks in MA. I'm from Louisiana and, I sure hope, Mary Landrieau is keeping a close eye on what's happening in MA. People, from all over this nation, are SICK AND TIRED of being left out. MA, you're voting for ALL of us, and WE THANK YOU!!
15% percent of all Coakley votes will be fraudulent. ACORN and SEIU brownshirts will see to that. Driving busloads of homeless from poll to poll. Multiple votes under false names. "Cemetary" voters. Illegals by the hundreds finding their way to the polls, escorted by armed black panthers. The crooked commucrat poll watchers will make sure boxes of Republican votes get "lost." The lawyers will get in on the game too. Denying absentees, disenfranchising our brave soldiers. It's the commucrat way, 10- 15% of ALL commucrat votes are phony.
TaxPAYING Patriots of MASS, HOLD FAST! Do not be intimidated by commucrat fraud! Protect yourselves from Democrat threats and violence! Get out the vote, roll your camcorders, point out the fraud! Guard the polls! Don't get bullied by Chairman Obama's brownshirts! Demand fairness and accountability from the media! Hold Fast! The lives of your children depend upon it.
It's time the good guys got in Obama's thug's faces. Don't accept the intimidation.

"Yep.Ed Schultz is as dumb as he looks" - i am sorry but i must disagree. he idiocy far exceeds his appearance thereof.
Dems are having a real hard time admitting that nobody wants their agenda. They have nothing but attacks and smears in their arsenal.
As a life-long Florida resident and a registered Democrat, I recently donated my hard earned money to Scott Brown's campaign chest. I know that this Administration and the Democrat Party do not have the best interest of the people of this country in mind when they do what they are doing to destroy our Constitution and our freedoms. I just e-mailed my Democrat Senator and referenced my contribution to Scott Brown's campaign and titled by message as follows: "Can you hear us now Senator?." I sincerely hope Scott wins this very important election and puts a stop to the madness in Congress. This President deserves a single term....but I wish there was a mechanism to recall the Marxist SOB. I would be first in line to sign the petition. Go Scott Brown!
Please, please, voters of Massuchesetts, protect our country and our children's future by carefully monitoring your polling places. If you notice any violations in the law or feel intimidated in any way, do not go quietly. LET YOUR VOICE?/VOTE BE HEARD AND LET THE INFRACTIONS BE SEEN. And let your elected officials and law enforcement officers know about it. Do not sit quietly while your votes are stolen.
When you combine Southern-style political corruption (ACORN) with Chicago-style ruthlessness, I'm not going to pop any corks until the election is over and all the votes, including the fraudulent ones, have been counted.
Brown's people need to have a video camera set up at every polling site to catch every voter on video, just in case the unions try to bus people around. This could be legal evidence.
The voter fraud that occured during the Dem primary and general election was successful because people were not aware or prepared. You know the SEIU and ACORN will be at the polling places. Go there in large numbers, bring video cameras, call the cops if you see intimidation, get in their faces. If you see any irregularities when you vote, speak up. These people are not used to being challenged. They are brainless thugs that are no match for the millions of people fed-up in this country. The backlash has begun!
America is under siege. SEIU is bussing in truckloads from out of state. Coakley and demonrats are using illegal smear tactics. MSM is recommending blatant voter fraud. Even if Brown wins they will purposely postphone him taking the seat. Piglosi/Reid dusting off the "nuclear option".
Obama exempts tax on cadillac plans for SEIU.
What more do Americans need to see how corrupt our government has become?
I pray for a Brown win in Massachusetts, from research I have done on Coakley. Any woman (person} who would allow a child molester to go free because of his family's donation to her campaign could not have a soul.
The people of Massachusetts need to protect our freedoms and watch these polling places, cameras in hand.
We, the rest of America, will be forever grateful, and I make a killer lasagna and will have you all over.
Thank You
Jersey here. Thanks Mass for hopefully making this an electoral "hat trick".
Pat refers to the Ed Schultz "cheat" video. For those who haven't seen it, Schultz says he'd "cheat"..."vote 10 times"...to keep those *^%* out of office.
http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2010/01/msnbc-libtalker-ed-schultz-supports.html
I would LOVE to see Scott put that video up as one of his last ads:
On Screen: Schultz saying he'd "cheat", "vote 10 times".
Over-write with text: "They really don't think it's the people's seat"
At end: "I'm Scott Brown and I approve this message so the people of Massachusetts can see the machine we're up against. I need your vote to defeat them.".
You're doing a heckuva job there, Martha! (or is it, a Hack job?)
Now that you've offended Red Sox fans and Catholics, perhaps you'd like to pull a Harry Reid and offend 'light-skinned Negroes', or something? C'mon, you've demonstrated such amazing political radar, surely you can come up with something!
Brown: current state senator. future US Senator.
Coakley: current hack pol. Future private citizen.
PS: I hope the President can do for your campaign what he did for Mr Corzine. Nothing like throwing a drowning woman an anchor...
There is a mantra here that we Conservatives must get out in the public: We must stop the Democratic Party from trying to create Iranian-style (ACORN / SEIU vote fraud) elections - like Al Franken's in Minnesota.
NO MORE IRANIAN-STYLE ELECTIONS IN THE UNITED STATES!!!
To the people in Massachusetts: You have the power to help put a stop to the corruption of the Obama administration and give all of us some hope in the rest of the country that we can overcome the destruction they are doing. We will be standing with you as you fight for all of us. Please do everything you can to keep this election from being stolen by union thugs and ACORN. May God be with you and keep you safe as you fight this battle, for that is what we all feel it is now.
I have already seen it somethere...
Ivan
