Obama To Campaign For Coakley In MA
Pres. Obama will campaign for MA AG Martha Coakley (D) on Sunday, senior Dem sources tell Hotline OnCall, underscoring the urgency with which Dems view the race.
A source close to the campaign said that Obama will attend an event for Coakley on Sunday afternoon. A senior Dem said the Coakley campaign asked the WH for a campaign visit.
"Martha has said that of course if the president was able to come, we would welcome him," the source said. Meanwhile, Coakley told Hotline OnCall earlier this week she had not asked Obama to campaign with her.
"The president believes that it'll be a productive stop, whether it was announced Tuesday or now," WH press sec. Robert Gibbs told reporters at his briefing today. "We have an invitation from the Coakley campaign and we're going."
Recent polling has shown Coakley losing her lead to, or even trailing, state Sen. Scott Brown (R). Obama's visit, first reported by Politico, is intended to salvage his chances of keeping a 60-seat majority in the Senate.
Both campaigns have launched their closing ads. Coakley's features an endorsement from Vicki Kennedy, the wife of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, and Brown's shows off him retail campaigning around South Boston.
Amid speculation earlier this week of an Obama visit, Brown told the Boston Herald that Obama "should stay away and let Martha and I discuss the issues one on one." Coakley, meanwhile, had told reporters that her campaign had not request a visit from the POTUS, but added that she "would welcome his support."
A Brown spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It is amazing how Republicans convince the working masses that they represent them. Bush and Cheney took away a balanced budget, increased drug costs by 400%, brought us into the most unpopular and completely unnecessary war that this country has ever had the displeasure of fighting in, in Iraq. Bankrupted the Country, allowed Finance companies to mismanage our money at a cost that people could not afford to lose, what little they had. So Brown can drive the length of the State and look all blue collar in his pick up, He is not going to convince me of anything other then he is a puppet of yesterday, and it took us eight years to get rid of his puppet master.
I totally agree with that guy Dermot's comment. Brown went to Boston College Law School. He is a partner in a law firm, makes a fortune out of consulting fees through and in addition is state senator, so the pick up think is a prop. He is a privileged wanna be redneck. GO COAKLEY!!!

I agree with Michael, there's double speak right here (read it yourself). I also have a problem with our President campaigning for anyone. He is president to all of Americans now. He should not be taking sides. This just feels wrong to me. He should stay out of it. Everytime he campaigns for his party, I feel like he's not my President at all. Another campaign promise broken - to make a bipartisan effort. Certainly doesn't look like it.
President Obama is not the leader of one particular party, but rather the leader of the entire nation. He should not lower himself to be involved in state political races. He should stay above the fray and let the local voters determine who they want to represent them. That person will not be representing Obama but the people who vote him or her into office.
Obama is hopefully not Big Brother and this is not a dictatorship ...yet. Obama must stay in DC and take care of all the issues presently facing him If he wants to visit some place to give hope, then he should go to Haiti.
Coakley's ads are so misleading, The basis of the financial mess lyes with Bill C. and Barney Frank. Let's face it, Robert Reich's "New Paradim" assumed human nature had changed and greed was gone for good. All the financial laws in place to protect the public were removed with Barney as cheerleader. Of course it always helps to get a few good campaing contributions from Bankers who just got 10 mil in bonuses. The Democratic party is a real joke and Obamas health care negotiations further divide the nation (no union here). They've raided the National Treasury and want me to pay. Get lost!! I'm voting you all OUT!!!
I agree with Martha! Obama has enough problems of his own that he needs to correct in DC. Stay home. We've had enough "hope" and "change" (or lackthereof) in DC...we dont need it up here too!
A Vote for Scott Brown is a vote for Freedom/Liberty and Choice. Less Government intrusion into all our lives.
A vote for Martha Coakely is a vote for Tyranny from Washington with, No choice, No Freedom..and No Liberty....No transparency, More Spending and More Taxation that are out of control.

Obama is a community organizator first and then president. He should be in D.C. with his full attention to many other issues than MA senate race. I think it will only backfire - the hard working people (which the people of MA are) are over him.
