Hutchison Will Serve Out Term
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) will announce today she has decided to serve out the remainder of her term, according to a source familiar with Hutchison's plans.
The move is a reversal of a pledge Hutchison made to step down as she challenged Gov. Rick Perry (R) earlier this year. Hutchison lost an early March primary against Perry by a surprisingly wide margin.
Hutchison originally said she would step down sometime last fall, before putting off her resignation thanks to the health care debate. Now that the health care debate is over, House GOPers in TX have urged Hutchison to reconsider in a letter sent to the incumbent last week.
Hutchison's decision means several candidates who hoped to replace her will have to put their plans on hold until her term expires in '12. At least 6 prominent GOPers who anticipated Hutchison's resignation have been running for months.
It also means Dems won't have the chance to pick off a seat because of the state's runoff laws. Earlier this cycle, the party hoped to take advantage of the chaos created by a crowded GOP field; but as Hutchison's resignation looked less likely, ex-Houston Mayor Bill White (D) dropped his SEN bid to mount his own campaign against Perry.
Hutchison will announce her decision to stick around for another 2 years in a press conference in TX today.

This is not good for either party and I think this will blemish her image.
This is nothing new. She's always said one thing & done another. Its why no one trusted her to be Governor.
Hopefully she'll either resign or get a credible primary challenger next time.
What a piece of garbage Bill White is!
He wanted to go to the Senate, to Washington. He will be run through in the general election because he wanted to be a vote for Obamacare which I'm sure is less popular in Texas than in America as a whole.
He symbolizes the tow things most Americans hate about most Democ-rats--their face.
She needs to pay back the expenses of those who started to campaign. I think they started it because she gave her word (that she was leaving before the primary), but if she breaks it, she should pay it.
Good for KB Hutchison! She did the right thing for Texas. We needed her to be active representing us during this tumultuous time in the Senate. RESPECT her decision.
Kay Bailey Useless would never give up such a cushy gig where she can pretend to care about her country while setting up hubby for bigger profits.
She never has to worry about "payback" or anything else - she's retiring in '12, she's sick of the job but it's an easy paycheck so why turn it down for 2 years?
And then she retires and goes to be a guest professor at either Baylor or SMU, looks like a Gravy Train to me.
Term Limits. KBH has reached hers, many times. Awful as it may sound, dead wood is dead wood and this relic was thinking ONLY of herself when she sold her Virginia home at a loss so she could move into the Governor's Mansion.
Flip-Flop, this or that, will or won't, Kay Bailey will-o'-the-wisp, take a lark carpet bagging opportunist.
Move on, missy, there are real conservatives in Texas who aim to serve the people of Texas.
I sure wish Texas had Michael Williams instead of KBH. That guys is a bad ass!

Typical politician. As a conservative from Texas, she lost my support long ago. She needs to go, period.
I've followed her race. She said she planned to step down to focus on running for governor and to provide her replacement with additional seniority which would help Texas in the long haul.
Circumstances changed in the Senate. She continued to do her job while campaigning for the GOP governor's nomination.
Perry created this "pledge" myth. What isn't a myth is the the $40 Billion deficit this year in Texas, the decline in our schools, and the impact of a federal solution to health care on Texas with our border problems with Mexico.
My guess is that Governor White will have a field day on his dance to the Governor's Mansion later this year. And that, really get's my goat.
Why is anyone surprised that any politician always acts in their best interests first?
Two more years of saying no, doing nothing, and collecting a big paycheck. It's good to be a Republican Senator.
You know she's washed up if she can't even beat Governor Goodhair!
I don't know much about Bill White and I'm a Republican but as much of a self-serving hypocrite as Perry is I may just sit this one out, or it might even be the once every ten years I vote for a Democrat.
Every time I see that face I am reminded of the accusation that Mrs. Hutchison slapped one of her employees when she took too much time looking up a phone number. That little sweet smile makes me sick.
Perry may be "annoying" and Kay is not as conservative as I wished she would be but make no mistake they are both light years ahead of any democrat that would run against them. All you need to know what kind of governor White would be is look where he advertises for donations - the lib weirdos at dailykos.com and fivethirtyeight.com
I have friends who worked in the "campaigns" of two potential GOP candidates in a special election to replace KBH.
Without a doubt, they believed that KBH was going to step down. They spent a huge amount of time, effort and money to get ready to run that race because they took KBH at her word.
She's just another Washington politician. If she tries to run again in 2012, she will have a serious Charlie Crist problem. The conservatives in Texas have had enough of her.
100% predictable -- Kay Bailey Chucklehead has a consistent history of always doing what's best for Kay Bailey, irrespective of what it means for Texans. Not many here believe she really means the promises or "pledges" that she blathers when she thinks it's what people want to hear.
No worries in the long term -- Texas is now majority minority, so it won't be too much longer before the fundies', rednecks', and bankers' candidates get to eat 2nd place at the ballot box. Hell, it'll be even sooner now since they're all screaming paranoia and refusing to turn in their census forms, ha!
Hey, i thought repubs don't lie. Ameripeeps don't lie, but polititions are experienced liars and, get this folks,so are democrats. These are the most jaded bunch. They have been in office for 30 t0 40 years, and they blame us for everything that's happening. Anybody remember the primaries when obama said he would recind george's presidential signings? kbh is too old to in office, she can't even remember what she said. vote them all out.Sometimes you have to weed the whole patch out. Q
How can anyone really know why Hutchinson broke her promise unless they walk a mile in her "Replica Gucci Shoes"!
ROTFLMAO
