I live in MA and anyone here can get health insurance. If you're low income it's on a sliding scale, so of course you still have to pay for it.

Just don't let them pass a single payer system. It's closer to student health insurance than what everyone here has. And it involves having an authoritarian buracracy between you and services.

If you read the article, Congressmen and women will have to enroll in a government run health care program. That does not mean that they will be getting the same care level of care we get. Oh, and "enrolling" is not necessarily the same thing as "paying for". I'm not sure that the term "cadillac plan" applies to the Congress - "Rolls Royce" would be more like it.

I just would like to know if the congress,the president and whomever else is in a federal health program AT PRESENT will be forced to take the SAME health package slated for us slaves, the American people. Not is it going to be a government program, they already HAVE that, and it is caddie style. I have a sister who is a fed gov. enmployee and it is a FINE health program. How is it legal that this bill creates two classes of people? Those who must obey the law and those who are exempt? So Union members, Government workers, and Congress and their friends are exempt from this bill? This is where a legal attack needs to be made. No more special exemptions and start reducing the special benefits which Government workers receive including retirements that can begin at 55 and cost of living increases during retirement that are unlike those given to Social Security recipients. The folks getting the special benefits--are the ones creating and implementing the policies which affect everyone else. They have no empathy because they dont have to live with the results of their policies.

How much are we going to take before we finally fight back. The rallies and Tea Parties were great and fun, but the Democrats paid zero attention to our complaints and went right on about their business of destroying our healthcare system and controlling our lives. Civil Disobedience is next on getting their attention and letting them know we mean business. It's time we start forming resistance organizations that train citizens in how to use the laws to our advantage and training in survival techniques and weapons training. We must be prepared for the day when our votes become worthless and the only to way to ensure our freedom is through force.

I looked at the Doctor and another Nurse and we didn’t say anything, but you knew what they were thinking.

The government has no power over health care in the Constitution.
The government has no power to compel me to buy a product or service.

Presently, staffers select from a menu of plans based on how much they are willing to pay, from crappy to Cadillac plans.

Obviously, much of it is subsidized (like lots of employer plans), but the staffer is responsible for paying part of the premium, especially if they want top-notch coverage. Before I left the Hill, I contributed $170 a month to my plan.

This bill doesnt require ANYONE to buy "government run insurance" as the article states. It requires Members and their staff to purchase private insurance from the same exchange as everyone else in the individual and small group market. As Katie mentions, Hill staff already purchase their insurance from an exchange. The bill basically opens up that exchange to more people and would conceivably offer more options.

But sure, go ahead and throw out words like corruption, socialism, and other non-true accusations. Oh, and also read that it was a constantly obstructionist Republican that created this provision. So why are you blaming Pelosi or Reid?

My husband works for the government. We pay $56.75 Medicare; $33.11 for Dental; Vision $7.84 and $185.06 for FEHB 26 times a year. I think FEHB is our medical insurance but I'm not sure. Of course we have a co-pay of $25 whenever we go to the doctor and, we have plenty of medical bills to pay which the insurance doesn't cover. We file the long form tax and always have money to deduct on medical. So if they're government workers with cadillac heathcare plans they're above my husband's pay level.

That does not apply to you or me. Your employer and mine can offer us whatever insurance they like. But the Federal government cannot do this for Congress and staff. It can only offer plans that are provided by the act.

The language is more restrictive of their coverage, not less. We can get insurance that Congress cannot get.
