Romer To Leave White House
Christina Romer, chairwoman of Pres. Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, has decided to resign, according to a source familiar with her plans.
Romer, an economics professor at the University of California (Berkeley) before taking the key admin post, did not respond to repeated calls to her office.
"She has been frustrated," a source with insight into the WH economics team said. "She doesn't feel that she has a direct line to the president. She would be giving different advice than Larry Summers [director of the National Economic Council], who does have a direct line to the president."
"She is ostensibly the chief economic adviser, but she doesn't seem to be playing that role," the source said. The WH has been pounded for its faulty forecast that unemployment would not top 8% after its economic stimulus proposal passed.
Instead, the jobless rate is 9.5%, after exceeding 10% last year. It was "a horribly inaccurate forecast," said Bert Ely, a banking consultant. "You have to wonder why Summers isn't the one that should be taking the fall. But Larry is a pretty good bureaucratic infighter."

She was as bad as Rice in never answering a question. I'm glad she's going. She always laughed and never was serious and gave flip answers. Time for a heavy weight.
She's way too good for them. And not a Wall St. insider.
Here is an interesting video interview with Romer from February.....it is fascinating to watch her defend something that she did not believe in.....
http://www.newslook.com/videos/187119-romer-assesses-new-bipartisan-jobs-bill-in-senate
The "Chicks Can't Do Math Dude" strikes again! Is there anything Larry Summers hasn't screwed up? And then not been amply rewarded for. He's probably got a direct line to the catfood commission.
Yes, she is way too good for such a corrupt government - I've ended up joining the Working Families Party in Oregon - i reach my end after voting for Democrats 50 years, their economic theories are bunk. We need a peoples party to pull us back from the brink.
Can't say I'm sad to see her go, just wish Summers and Geithner were along for the exit ceremony....THE WHOLE SUCKS....except Volker.
"i reach my end after voting for Democrats 50 years, their economic theories are bunk. We need a peoples party to pull us back from the brink."
Another right wing troll.
Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?
Paul Krugman would be a dynamite replacement and a good counter weight to Summers.
Can understand her frustration. It is clear to many of us that the actions by the administration have not been enough. Americans are still hurting-too many continue to be unemployed for too long. This was something that could have and should have been addressed sooner. If she is the chief economic adviser and has been consistently right but not listened to, then one can understand her position-too bad for Americans Abama doesn't get this.
Right!
Summers sucks!! repug in disguise
fire him!!
get krugman
Why is it Romer and not Summers? I'm sad to see her go, but Krugman would be a stellar replacement.
I do hope this isn't a mistake. I always enjoyed listening to what she had to say. Plus, I believed what she said. Whereas, I have never enjoyed listening to Summer or Geithner, nor do I completely trust them. I don't trust people who can't seem to look someone in the eyes. Plus, I think they may be too close to Wall Street and the banks. I am sure they are knowledgable, however, if they are conflicted when it comes to representing our, the American public, interest.
She has been right all along, she just isn't good at playing politics. The commenter who said they need to replace her with a heavyweight obviously knows nothing about her career and her expertise. It's just a shame that she's not being given the oppurtunity to influence policy.
Summers won't leave until hedge funds are back to making easy money or there's a new president-the more likely outcome.
Until then, we're screwed.
Obama has been disappointing and his choice of listening to Summers and Geither instead of Romer or Biden's Economic Advisor is telling. His politics are centrist so he favors advisors who have a similar outlook.
Filling her position with either Krugman or Stiglitz would be great, if he would listen to either of them.
Why am I not surprised that she did not have direct access to the President unlike Mr. Summers(Dir. of the National Economic Council) It's too bad that she, unlike Mr. Summers, and Mr. Geithner )Sec. of the Treasury) did not come from Wall Street. Mr. Obama has so many Wall Street insiders advising him it really is too bad that the President did not have
the ear of Ms. Romer--who represents non-Wall Street interests. By-the-way, there are so many former Goldman Sachs staff who work in the US Treasury Dept now--we now call the US Treasury Dept the Goldman Sachs annex.
Anyway, its too bad about Ms. Romer. As far as we are concerned this President has been a failure when it comes to the economy. Maybe if he would keep Ms. Romer and get rid of his Wall Street crowd, the President can salvage the economy that was nearly destroyed by his Wall Street friends
Earl Shumaker
Look, it's a big job taking on the Military-Industrial Complex and only corporate players get the key.
http://www.light-to-dark.com/obama_confronts_the_corporation.html
For those of you that think Krugman would be a great replacement, he does not have the guts. He would rather preach from the cover of pen and paper.
He has it too good and never would give up his high end capitlistic lifestyleand risk being called to the carpet for another academic theory gone wrong. Besides, he has never worked a day in his life outside of the classroom.
For a Berkeley prof (I did my grad work there) she appears unusually shallow. Always smiling in a conventional manner as she politely lies for her president. Though perhaps this means she may not have been thoroughly on board, and feels uncomfortable about her ungainly position. And would like to return to having a life of some sorets. Who, after all, would want to be upstaged by Lawrence Summers? Romer is an expert on the Great Depression. Summers and gang are experts on making Wall Street work in the twenty first century. Obama does not appear to have bucked that tide. Was Romer just an ornament in the first place?
Well, it looks like the rats are starting to leave the Titanic. At least she'll be remembered the least, having left before the bowline dipped.
She advocated a bigger stimulas package from the beginning.
I put out great effort and even sent my own money in donations to Obama during the campaign, while believing this guy would do the right thing for the people. Looks like I was self guided by a fool. It's just more of the same. In reality it looks like the middle class is finally finished. The administration including Summers know that the jobs aren't coming back and this is probably the reason they are fighting. Welcome to our mediocre country.
He's either a Republican in Democrat clothing or he's stupid. Time will tell. At this time I wouldn't vote for him again. I'll sit the election out if Palin is the other candidate. Heck, maybe they're both equally stupid.
If any of us think this President is interested in the middle class we're morons. Hillary Clinton was right, "He's just a speech".
Uggh. Another progressive leaves an administration already lacking progressive voices.
Summers was the worst pick ever, along with that weasel Geithner and Rahm "Karl Rove" Emanuel. At least Romer was a progressive voice to counter the the Harvard/Chicago axis that represents Goldman Sachs, Wall St and the kind of unfettered, unregulated, "free"-market larceny that has been eroding this country's economic vitality for 30 years, while making the rich much richer still. Summers and company are the same ding-dongs and charlatans posing as economic gurus who have enabled the on-going plunder of America. Looks like Romer finally got fed up with the status-quo Obama admin that only pays occasional lip-service to doing what's needed after 30 years of systematic dismantling of the New Deal and consumer protections. From the beginning, it was obvious she was only picked as part of the economics team to provide window dressing to placate progressives, while it was always Summers and Geithner who ran the show.
I'm sickened by the Obama admin at this point. Time and time again they have shown an overly eager willingness to throw progressives under the bus - whether it's chucking key principles immediately while getting almost nothing in return, or quickly firing progressives when the Right whines too much. People like Van Jones and Romer should be held onto - while Rahm, Summers and Geithner should never have been appointed in the first place. Hell, Rahm is quite outspoken about taking progressives for granted - he doesn't even hide his disdain for them.
From foreign policy to domestic policy, this admin can best be described centrist or a hair center-right. Better than the previous admin, to be sure, but you can't really say they are up to the challenge of this time in history. Obviously I am more to the left, but I'm not dogmatic about it. For progressives, it's really not about getting our pet programs enacted or our pet ideologies catered to - it's about addressing the unique times we find ourselves in. After 30 years of uninterrupted free-market policies that have seen regulations gutted, our manufacturing base shipped over-seas, and general plunder run amok to the point where most of the economy is built on fraud... well, the times scream for a more vigorous progressive rollback of the damaging, failed policies of the corporate right. Incrementalism, splitting the difference, triangulation, and all the usual fluffy bipartisan crap (read: capitulation to corporate interests) isn't going to begin to address the fundamental problems this nation is saddled with - and everytime those are tried, it only blows up in the administration's face. The needed solutions are watered down to the point where they cannot address the problems effectively, and the wingnuts STILL demonize the president as a radical and vote in lock-step against him on every initiative. No matter how watered down the policies, and how many progressive principles and programs are dumped overboard, the wingers foam at the mouth, get concessions, and then end up voting No. And support for the adminsitration continues to ebb. So what is getting accomplished here?
Mr President, your lame centrist policies and constant sops to the Right are not what the country desperately needs, and they will never result in the Right hating you less. You end up with ineffective policies not up to the moment, and losing ground politically - not so much with progressives as with Independents. Contrary to the CW, Indy's are not centrists and moderates - they are pragmatic and results-oriented, and respect a president who shows strong commitment to a set of values, be they right or left. Ronald Reagan was on the worng side of the majority of Americans on almost every issue - and yet he won Indies and more than a few democrats because he stuck to his principles and defended them vigorously. Will you ever get that, Mr President? Tell your political team and Rahm Emanuel to stfu, and do what you know is right for the country at this moment in history. And for God's sake, don't ever act on anything because you're afraid the right will say bad things about you.
Dump the corporate Wall St toads in your admin, and get some progressives back on your economics team. Show Summers, Timmy, and Rahm the door, and recruit a new team. Bring back Romer, bring back Van Jones, and appoint some people committed to providing some counter-balancing antidote to this 30 year long experiment in free-market theivery. And tell Fox News to kiss your radical black ass.
I agree with, George. President Obama really does not care for the middle class--except when it comes time for the middle class to foot the bills. However, it appears that under this President the middle class and our economy is quickly disappearing. It is apparent that this President gives lip service to "Main Street" and at the same time continues to pander to Wall Street and the corporate interests. I also agree with Hillary Clinton when she said that Obama is "just a speech."
Again, it is too bad that a non-connected Wall Street person such as Ms. Romer was not given opportunities to help advise the President. Mr. Obama. I am afraid is going to pay dearly in the upcoming elections because of his pandering to Wall Street and corporate interests.
Earl Shumaker
Dr. Romer understands the role of private sector in building a stable economy. Her "expertise" in Depression Era economics underscores her belief in the role of the private sector in digging our way out --
Her expertise cautions Dr. Romer that the current period of economic instability cannot be equated with, or resolved in the same way as, the Great Depression --.
Too bad for the country that the President finds the Tim and Larry act more compelling --
She is always Ms. Happy Talk with an annoying voice...good riddins
We're all Neoliberals now....
Dr. Romer was an unfortunate choice from the beginning. Though undeniably progressive, she was simply not effective. And a very poor voice for the council I might add. Just no discernible gravitas. The poor woman always sounded, well, superficial and insignificant. Probably no fault of her own, but it's no wonder she lost her audience early on. Now Elizabeth Warren is another story, Romer's opposite in every way. Let's get her appointed to the new Consumer Protection Agency, and quit worrying about Romer.
She is probably just the tip of the iceberg! How long can you live on a myth??
Wait until after November 2! We are going to hear that a slug from Team Obama 'have offers they just cannot refuse', or 'want to spend a lot more time with their families.'
In the meantime, hope that FLOTUS is having a great time in SPAIN. (Know the folks from the Gulf coast could have used the $$$$$$$$ and PR -- but heck, Michelle had about 40 friends that had to be accommodated during her vacation!!)
Take 5 mins to read through BlackAgendaReport.com and you will have a better understanding of why President Obama tends to subvert, clown, and sabotage those on the Left who supported him.
Charlie - "Dr. Romer was an unfortunate choice from the beginning. Though undeniably progressive, she was simply not effective. And a very poor voice for the council I might add. Just no discernible gravitas. The poor woman always sounded, well, superficial and insignificant..."
True. Very true. But then, that's the role she was chosen to play. I think the admin only wanted someone to provide them with progressive cover, but not someone who could forcefully challenge Summers and Geithner.
There are many more powerful progressive voices out there who would have been much better than Romer. But unfortunately, they are not on the Obama team, and I doubt any of them will be chosen to replace her. And I doubt any would accept replacing her, knowing that Summers and Geithner and Goldman are the real power centers in the Obama administration.
She has been castigated relentlessly by http://www.robbingamerica.com for selling her soul to the devil - a soul that at Berkeley confirmed and published research that proved the effectiveness of tax cuts to increase growth and fight recessions.
While at the WH she did a 180 and toed the line of Summers and Geithner and Obama. We have seen the results.
She paid the price for not having the "cojones", as Palin would say. She would never recover for her cowardice
The Professor had rational reasonable market solutions for the jobs solution. The administration wasn't interested. Spending into prosperity was their anchor economic idea. Sure is sinking America.
God you people are insane Krugman??? He is certifiable. I think all of you are insane It is clear to me a war is coming and it is not going to go well for you left wing super kooks You don't believe in guns. I personally will be glad to see this come to an end You are dangerous and insane
"She has been frustrated," a source with insight into the WH economics team said. "She doesn't feel that she has a direct line to the president."
Maybe, I could believe that. I think she probably saw what was really in the sausage (can I say that?) and like anyone whose seen what goes into sausage (god this sounds bad) will never look at sausage (ok I'm cracking myself up now) the same way.
I bet she spent too many meetings listenening to Larry Summers talk about manipulating DOW and S&P Futures and decided she'd leave.
of course the Dems cater to WS and GS...running up these deficits are the best thing that happen to the primary dealers on WS...they make money coming and going...I only wish he was catering to the corporate and manufacturing sectors...maybe the real economy and not WS would be hiring and expanding..
Paarl of Rhodesia
Krugman would be stymied by Sommers and Geithner, too. President Obama must feel very vulnerable to keep them on after not producing anything but hot air and more cover for the Wall Street casinos. It's time to burst their bubble before they create another Ponzi scheme.
It's so easy criticizing and prognosticating. Obama didn't bankrupt this country or create the mess this country is in. He has the unfortunate job of trying to help fix it in the little year and half he's been there, with a divided country and congress, a wall street that's not helping after being helped, and a hateful republican party and its followers who most all seem could care less that they're tearing down their own country.
I am glad the cheese cake factory is shut down.
I am glad the cheese cake factory is shut down.
Krugman never met a tax he didn't like, so if the Dems want to screw things up more, he is the right guy.
The whole tone of the thread is off. There seems to be an assumption that a slow recovery and high unemployment are the result of listening to Geithner and Summers rather than Romer. That's just wrong, and for two reasons. The first is that the only policy shift that might have delivered better results would have been vastly expanded fiscal stimulus. But the stimulus package that did pass was arguably the biggest that could be pushed through Congress. That's what the Administation thought at the time, and I see no convincing evidence they were wrong. (An extra $100 billion or $300 billion in stimulus would make no material difference. You'd need to be talking about another $1 trillion.) Second, and more important, recoveries have been slow and unemployment remains in all advanced economies. That's almost invariably been the legacy of asset bubbles followed by financial and credit collapses. It would be a better world if it were otherwise, but there's not a whole lot anyone can do about it. People who support progressive, liberal policies need to stick together in what is, and was always going to be, a very difficult political environment. That means all of you should be cutting the Administration a lot more slack than you are.
Perhaps it's the message and not the messenger? Obumbles and crew have wrecked havoc on our economy.
She couldn't lie anymore. She looks like a nice person.
Did somebody forget to flush?
"Another right wing troll.

Time for a Heavyweight??? Dude..You ever see the size of her. Just call her Mrs.Puff
The American People are getting thrashed by the Privately owned Fed. Reserve the IMF and Wall Street. They have bankrupted this last standing bastion of Liberty. Your forefathers warned of this, and now it is happening right before our eyes. Return the coining of money to your Congress, with NO INTEREST. Why are you paying private Bankers when you have the right, and liberty to print your own money.

Krugman? Krugman? On top of being an idiot, Krugman is a Communist.
1 down and a few dozen more to go. If only Obama would resign then we might see some progress.
As with the rest of them, they are all way in over their heads. For all the Demonazi's commenting about rupugs, can you say quadruple. That's what the deficit has become under these elitists who think money grows on trees.
The gross incompetence of this administration has become staggering.
Obama has a good haircut and wears a fine suit, but he never ran a business, never ran a city, and never ran a country before.
Now that we know "Community Organizer" is most similar to "Public Librarian", and every Obama program from Cash to Clunkers to the Stimulus Package has been costly and ineffective, its time to impeach Obama.
The socialist revolution of Obama was unprepared for a real economic crises.
They claimed it was worse than the depression to get elected but imaged they had all the money in the world and they wasted a stimulus bill on nothing but a bunch of corrupt pork to special interest groups. THEN they realized it really was a serious downturn and stood around scratching their heads about what to do.
So, how is your "recovery summery" going in Obama's socialist utopia?
One down and 'THE REST' to go. None of these people have ever ran anything but a car and I bet they go to the full service station.
If Obama cared about the USA He would leave too.
His Wife has spent more money in 1-1/2 than all the other 43 1st ladies in the history of Our Country. SICKO!
they are all a bunch of sorry economic losers who'll never get it right.
Hey Fisherman! Don't tell these people anything... they will deserve what's coming to America very soon. You know what I mean...
>Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?
another left wing dimmie with no concept of how the ecomomy works . . . it's the supply side that pays the bills moron.
It was supply side that got the economy humming for Clinton until he killed it with tax increases . . .
Matt.... BS!!! Look at Greece and you will see the fate of your stupidity!
Arne... U are 2 funny
Barbara in oregon
The working Family Party is a Union off shoot of the democrat party , they are one in the same!!!!
I love it. The left wing here thinks she left because she was "too left". It's hysterical. As to Krugman, sure, bring in the old Enron advisor and shovel dirt on the corpse that is Obamanomics.
We need some 3 letter words J-O-B-S !
Said Joe 'BITE-ME'
Smart move. Anyone attached to obama and the economy are going to have a hard time finding a legitimate job after this disaster of an administration is voted out in 2012. OTP -(one term president)
Democrat economic policies not working?? I am shocked I tell ya shocked. I still have no clue how democrats think their way would be good for the country. Have they looked at the Soviet Union or Greece? That is the very definition of insanity. Actually I take that back. That is not insane it is just pure evil. Insane would assume they don't know what they are doing is bad. They know exactly what they are doing. Destroying the country. What I can never figure out is if democrats hate this country and want to destroy it so bad why not just move to a country more suitable to their ideology like Cuba or Venezuela?
Romer was the only sane person in the administration. i'm sure she was embarassed to give that idiotic speech about how the economic policies of this administration have "saved or created" 3.6 million jobs. What a colossal failure. Too bad Obama only listens to Summers and Axelrod, he to is destined for failure.
Krugman needs to run for public office so normal Americans can tell him where to stick his policies of unlimited government spending...Think about it, if government spending had a multiplier effect, we'd be rolling in cash...
Paul Krugman would be a dynamite replacement and a good counter weight to Summers.
MicheleMoore-Happy1
Don't we need another tax dodger and IRS cheat to put there? OH, OH, we caanot live without one.

Bunk economics Supply-Side?
I'll take the '80s results over this crap everyday and twice on Sunday.
Does the Government buy your cheese, too?
Paul Krugman would be great in this role I agree, but they won't offer him the position. It's just as well given that he has more influence as a NY Times columnist than he would on the Economic Advisors panel.....
After reading most of these comments, I'm assuming most of you are quite young. Otherwise, you would recall how to turn the economy around...and it ain't with "stimulus" and mo taxes! President Reagan inherited an inflation rate of double digits and interest rates around 18%. He cut.CUT. cut the capital gains tax from around 78% to 28%. Revenues to the treasury doubled. Doubled. DOUBLED. Raising taxes never helps the economy. I guess a Republican will have to clean up the mess in 2012. Again.
Summers has the clout of being an ex-Harvard president--even though he has rarely been right about the economic forecast and about women for that matter. Remember according to Summers women aren't really suited for the "sciences." That opinion lost him his job at Haaavaaad. Romer, an economist, is a scientist, a social scientist and isn't an insider. She must be tired of putting a smiley face on this dismal economic outlook. Who could look herself in the mirror lying for this administration in front of Congress and every other audience; it has worn her down and she wants to keep some small scrap of self-respect.
@Anon(ymous Coward):
Your unprovable, vapid accusation about Barbara Bartschi makes *you* the troll.
At least she used her "name"; like I will.
Shumaker, George, Arne (even tho it was a SLUG to read!) got it right in my book. And, Joe Friday was spot on.
Do the math: a bunch of people that voted for O are over the speechy "leg thrills." I'm sure he's fun at a party, but unfortunately, he's also completely incompetent at actually leading something real.

The Democrat party is gone. It is now a
"World wide Socialist Party" very close to the
'National Socialist Party' from Germany who both hate freedom and America.
if this bozo obama and his minions weren't such socialist ideologues they would have eliminated all federal taxes for 2009, spent less than the money down the drain stimulus package and the economy would be roaring now. it's just a matter of time before we will be forced into an austerity program like europe. then there will really be pain. i was fooled once but will not be fooled this november.
Why do you call Obama's insiders wall street.. they are nothing but salespeople.. not a one has ever been an investor.. they grind out nickels for their bosses.. and pennies for the USA.
Hey Anon,
Today's headlines read, "Postal Service loses 3.5 billion, IRS in Red for first time ever, Fannie seeks 1.5 billion after 12th straight loss..." That's just today! Unemployment at 9.5%, largest deficits in our nation's history, and a stimulus package that didn't stimulate. How long are you going to keep drinking the kool-aid. If Keynes were alive today he'd be denouncing himself. Thankfully, November is approaching and we'll have some "Trolls" with a little common-sense to reign in this Administration.
Have no fear. They will choose some other communist to take her place.
I wondered if she had a consious(sp) when she was being interviewd. Maybe now she is showing that she does. Maggie
Why would anyone think a Berkeley professor would be good at economics in the first place. The comprehension of economics must be done from a dispassionate, non ideological basis in order to plan for the future. A Berkeley professor, even one such as this, is not that person.
As much as wall streeters screwed up, they are the best at economics because its all about making money. What they fail to do is check irrational decisions, mainly a permanently upward market. Bubble and burst is a cycle. The trick is to drag out that cycle for a longer period of time by being conservative with investments.
Anyone who thinks investing in government infrastructure helps out should not be making financial decisions for the country. Government facilities generate no wealth or growth. They are a drain on society, an expense. We need to consolidate government infrastructure and be more forward thinking.
Barbara Bartschi said: "I've ended up joining the Working Families Party in Oregon - i reach my end after voting for Democrats 50 years, their economic theories are bunk. We need a peoples party to pull us back from the brink."
Lady, first of all voting for Democrats for 50 years shows you don't have a clue about economics in the first place, except what scraps some politician will throw to you. Now you joined the Socialist Party in Oregon? You think that will fix things? Gawd! I'm moving to a more capitalist country, like China or Russia.
Apparently, she did -not- get the initial WH memo regarding the 'official' public policy of Obama:
She failed to realize that her duty was to lie, obfuscate, deceive, and say everything is fine.
Bye bye, Dolores Uxbridge! Remember, when telling the people about the effects of your president's economic policies, tell yourself, "I MUST NOT TELL LIES!"
Obama and his socialist friends at the White House are destroying America. I fear for our future. He should be impeached.
This is NOT the "change" that I voted for. President Obama promised to work with both sides of the aisle. He lied. President Obama is bankrupting the country. He did not run on that. I'm never voting Obama again. Maybe Nadar next time but NOT obama.
One of the only credible people Obama had working for him. Orszag left for the same reason. "You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd." (Roger Williams)
You guys just don't get it. Obummer has messed with so many sectors in the country (healthcare incompetance/auto bailouts/bank manipulation/failed forclosure policy/grass4clunkers/do i need to say more? because its endless....) that at this point the only way the economy is going to recover is when the threat is gone, which at this point 2012 cannot come soon enough.
I don't care what the polls say, Obummer is a one-termer, too bad he gets 4 years instead of 2. He should have never even made it to the election, he's a boy scout in a general's job and he always has been. Empty suit my arse - they don't make suits that small except for Ken and Barbie.
Please just pull your progressive heads out and engage your pea brains!

Any dissaray in this Obama administration is a good thing overall for most Americans.
What a shame. She's the only Obama administration official that retains credibility. She's authentic.
Rob, you may be right but I would worry the ptb are looking for a more driven and qualified insider. I notice some posters think she is too good for this administration. This administration defines good as who will tow the line without exposing the real ideological ends. One poster actually thinks the WFP is a good organization. Obviously they have no knowlege of history or they'd be screeching for constitutional obedience before they become the fertilizer of the next generations communal farms..
Is it just me or did she remind anyone else of Dolores Herbig (as in "her big brown eyes") from "Dead Like Me"?
Any minute, I expected her to give out her website where (for a fee) you could watch "cleaning with Christina" over a live video feed...
What a loss - she is the lone voice looking out for the main street people.
I know Prof. Romer personally, I took a graduate course with her. She is someone with great integrity who actually believes in good empirical economics - not a left/right ideologue, which might explain why some people on the left hate her (she shows that tax cuts do indeed boost economic growth) and people on the right (she argues that government spending gets you more stimulus for your dollar than tax cuts).
I think her problem is that she is too much from the academic world - unlike Krugman who has honed a razor sharp cutting edge with his editorials, or Summers or Geithner, who are veterans of institutional politics, Christie is just a smart, nice academic. Consequently her public appearances were too nuanced and not as effective (even compared to some other academics in the administration like Goolsbee who could tear it up with Jon Stewart) and I'm guessing in private she was unable to work Obama as well as Summers or Geithner could.
But liberals should still thank her for pushing for a bigger stimulus, there's a decent chance we would have gotten even less with someone else in that position.
This is great! I can't understand why she is leaving. The party is just starting. America has been asking for an undiluted dose of Democrat economic policy for years. Now we have it.
"No tax breaks for the rich"
"From each according to his ability. To each according to his needs"
"Yes we can"
"I'm just trying to spread the wealth around man"
........and all that other happy @#$%
Obama is cleaning house on the topic of economics. This economy is a huge failure so between now and November the entire message on the economy will be painted in such a way that people will think he's done a great job. Romer is a pawn in this game.
Well hey, thank God Obama got his stimulus bill and health reform bill.....I think a random selection of names from a phonebook could do no worse, and likely much better.
How will we know when she's gone?
DEAR ARLENE you said this...."His politics are centrist so he favors advisors who have a similar outlook."
CENTRIST? Buh uh ummm... All I can say is that you are bat Sh!T Crazy! nothing left to say.
She also bought into the b.s. that Summers pretends to support.
The Obama people have given over 4 trillion to the banks. Bush only gave 1 trillion! How can the Dems say that Bush created this problem when both parties have created HUGE amounts of debt?
The Tea Party was created due to George Bush's insane spending. Now Obama has gone even further, and yet he says it is all Bush's fault? At least take half of the blame, President man.
Summers is a bought and paid for shill of the multi-national banksters (gee, like the Saudis and the Russians/Chinese). He is taking part in intentional destruction of the U.S. economy, for money. But its easy to destroy people like the present day Americans who pull the wool over their own eyes. This country is about to experience GREAT PAIN.
The woman is an economist from la la land.
Perhaps Romer is not radical enough, or maybe unlike Summers and Geithner, she's not a Goldman Sachs "alumnus".
Anyway, things are not working out just yet, according to plan, so somebody had to leave. Maybe she did an "eeny, meeny, miney, moe" and disoevered she was the one to "let go". Doesn't matter. At least until 2012.
What really matters is whether or not the ACORN Census gets those congressional districts and electoral votes away from the mountain and midwest states and back to the big city ghettoes in blue states. If the AC works like it's supposed to, Obama get's re-elected, and all is over.
Lets dig up Karl Marx and have him take over!
Wait a minute, maybe they already did...
Is that Karl behind the curtain? Nope, just the good ol' golfer and socialist-in-chief job-killing machine spend it like it's on fire, Snake Oilbama himself!
Funny stuff. This seems to be yet another donkey bailing before the blame for how lame our economy is actually performing can be pinned on them!
-Oz
Make no mistake - Romer is leaving because the Obama ship is sinking and she knows that those who leap first have the best chance of surviving what's sure to come shortly. You don't leave a team that is supposedly "winning" or forfeit a game when you're ahead. Romer is choosing to leave because she knows that O's economic policy hasn't worked, won't work and that it's becoming all too difficult to sell his crap sandwiches as ham and Swiss. No, she's jumping off while she still has a chance preserve whatever reputation she has left. And she would be smart to do so.
If I was connected to this administration I'd jump too.
Good riddance. Romer can't answer the tough questions, but moreso, she doesn't have the right answers to begin with. She should go back to academia where it's safe and let us real doers take care of real problems. Professors don't create jobs, entrepreneurs do.
Dr Romer should not leave. Might she be caving in to the gender thing or a power struggle in the WH or both?
usually women are much better office politickers than are men; this is a change of pace. Still, Summers is a jew - and we know how sneaky and manipulative they are (just look at the neo-cons).
Hey, Barbara.
You said: "We need a peoples party to pull us back from the brink."
First off, if you liberals would get some education, you'd know that the correct punctuation is "peoples' party."
And instead of even more Marxist/Leninist crap in the White House and Congress, what we need is a Tea Party to blow the hell out of the largess that is the federal government.
Reduce it by about 80% and we'd have just about the right sized federal government.
The President-in-training is just going to name some other unprepared person for job.
Supply side works you dope. You're living in the world of anti-capitalism and after only 18 months it's a nightmare. Then again, you can always pack you Che pajamas and move to one of the many, many social-maxist economies around the world that are doing so well. Dumb a$$.
Truth be told, Obama has far more "advisers" than time to listen to them. Unless they can get his ear while he's on vacation or golfing, these "adviser", such as Romer, are like potted plants.
We have the most incompetent Presidential Advisors in the History of our Country.
Personally I think she thought she'd just waltz in an take over, an be top dog. When that didn't happen, an she didn't get as much control as she thought she would, or she thought she should have, instead of sticking it out-----She ran away from the responsibility just like Palin did! Two Birds of Feather, sticks together.
She is an embarrassment to her Alma Mater. The Founders of the College would be very disappointed to have known her to be a graduate of this school.
Does it really matter who advises what in this administration? Obama is way too smart for the whole boilin' of them.
As the ship sinks lower and lower into the cold waters, I keep thinking even this megalomaniac will suffer a spasm of humility ... but so far, not happening.
She should have gone directly to Rahm Emanuel or David Axelrod because they are Obama's puppeteers.
She should have gone directly to Rahm Emanuel or David Axelrod because they are Obama's puppeteers.
Sick of all you Repugs and your threats ofmwar. You are so mentally and physically impotent that's the only old worn idea you can come up with. Try using your brain and come up with solutions to help. Oh yeah, you don't have a brain you inbred idiot.
This is a classic case of what is wrong in Washington D.C. There are two problems with this picture. There are too many levels of Presidential appointees where the chief economic adviser can't even speak with the Commander in Chief. This is a very common problem in Democrat controlled White Houses.
Two, many highly educated organizations and government entities stack the offices with very smart people. There is a big problem though; very few of them have any real world experience running profitable companies or private sector experience. They think more is better and they keep having meetings and hiring (or appointing) more people thinking this will fix all the problems. It doesn't. It just slows things down and nothing gets done.
I missed one problem so make it three. Our President has no experience running anything and has ducked any major decision making his entire career. Any person that would have done just a little vetting of this man prior to voting for him would have known this.
It is time for all of the moderates and so-called progressives in this country to apologize to those of us who knew this was coming.
I can't wait for November to put a stop to this catastrophic period in American history.
I'm doing a http://www.LIVESHOT.cc on CNN.
Good. Clean out the Progressive rats. Progressivism is a haughty, snooty, disgusting political theory/belief with a history wrought with socialism and economic destruction. Didn't work in Germany, Europe, China or the USSR. Stop trying to bring it here.
Why doesn't the entire Marxist administration step down? Do us all a favor. Hopefully BHO, Holder, and the ship if corrupt fools will be in orange jumpsuits soon.
Not to worry, there are plenty more Keynesians out there looking to be in the White House Inner Circle. Nothing will change with those who think you can spend your way out of financial difficulties. That's what you and I have done with our family budgets. Works like a charm. Right?
Maybe because the real unemployment number is 22%, all of the banks are insolvent and there is a 1.5 Quadrillion derivatives bubble are the reasons?
Wake up. Between the markets being front traded and the created depression it's obvious there is no free market.

911essentials is an introduction to the New World Order Central Banking Police State, its plans for one world government and their worship of the pseudoscience Eugenics.
No wonder a person like BO can get elected...reading these comments by liberals who actually believe they know economics and post such non-sense.... How many of you belong to the Flat Eart Society too? You live in a world void of reality and believe only rhetoric.... Yes drag out supply side like you know what it means or even have evidence it failed... Oh yes. You know all about markets... Or is it "marquettes". Selfmade Marxist idiots from berkley and harvard. I give you credit... In the face of all your failed myths implemented as policy you still think you know what you are talking about.... Liberalism thinks it is infallible mo matter the facts
Could it be Romer is leaving because although no conservative her own scholarly research paper recently found that tax cuts are much more effective than Keynsian stimulus spending at creating jobs and a growing economy?
And that's even assuming a traditional "shovel ready" infrastructure stimulus rather than the pork, payoff and patronage larded bill Obama-Pelosi-Reid rammed through in 2009.
No wonder she's frustrated. She's a liberal and she's in an administration of lunatics.

Arne,
You said:
"From foreign policy to domestic policy, this admin can best be described centrist or a hair center-right."
Nationalizing the auto industry and the financial industry; signing a socialist "spread the wealth" bankrupting health insurance law and taking over 18% of the U. S. economy; and signing a financial "reform" bill into law that adds mountains of additional bureaucracy (and tens of billions in cost, and ignores the causes of the financial meltdown (out-of-control Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac)
Those are the marks of a centrist or "a hair center-right" administration?
Arne, tell us where you got your stuff, 'cause you been smokin' some strong weed. Or more lilely something even stronger. You're out of your mind if you think this Marxist/Leninist administration is anywhere near centerist.

UC@Berkely sums it all up. Left wing/Socialist-Communist trying to regulate all facets of the economy.
Take away my earned income via higher taxes and give it to the who, the ones who "are out of work, poor" etc? You know what, find work, create a job for yourself to make income. Put away the XBox and hustle for a job.
If you don't want to work, you should not be given assistance. If you don't want to work, you should be allowed to fail and as we say in the Army "cut the chord and drop the deadweight". Screw those of you who wish to impose a higher tax and take away my hard-earned income.
I am salivating for this Nov 2010 and 2012 when we regain control of the Government once again.
Screw the Monkey in the White House.
When will liberals realize that government intervention in markets leads to failure?
Liberals, where are the jobs the government is supposed to be "creating"? The government doesn't create anything, it consumes resources.
There are two types of people who vote democratic:
1) Athiests
2) Losers who needs their government daddy to take care of them.
Funny how the Repugs created this mess and are trying to blame Dems. Losers.
Anon,
You are a moron, must be from Canada. Progressives are morons and so are neo cons.
Paul Krugman???? The Noble Peace Prize in economics is worth about as much as a platic medal with a paper ribbon in some
elementary school awards ceremony since he was awarded one.
Paul Krugman is anti-small business, anti-big business, anti-
capitalism and pro-authoritarianism. What a shmuck. Pres-
ident Obama is by far the dumbest man to ever occupy the
White House. Get someone in there who's been an entrepenuer,
a small businessman, a ceo..anyone who's written a check.
Bush 7 years of employment yes even one year with demoncrats in charge of congress and Obama O years. Facts are facts and not political.
When she was an Academic, she wrote about the evils of tax increases. She's fat and unpleasant, but not stupid. Obama trashed her reputation, like he does most. She knew and knows the bankruptcy and corruption of Obama's agenda, so she quit. Or Obama pushed her out. In any case, she MUST be a racist because she's white and disagrees with Obama. Where's the outrage???
Folks, our consitution is suppose to limit the size and scope of the federal government. The Federalists and Anti-Federalists argued about how much to limit the Fed's power, not whether or not to. The Federal government cannot create useful economic jobs. The government is not part of any commerce. They produce nothing of value for distribution or sale. Liberals believe that for a man to get richer someone has to be get poorer. They believe in a zero sum economy. This exists in a socialist/facist/communist style economy where all commerce is controlled. The brilliance of capitolism is and always was, there is no limit to wealth AN INDIVIDUAL can create for themselves beyond their own ability. To some, it simply isn't fair that some have greater abilities than others and therefore all have to be reduced to the lowest achievable level in the interest of compassionate fairness. More government equals less entrepanuership, less new business, less ingenuity, less business, less jobs, less tax revenue to feed the beast over half of our population now apparently depends on.
If things don't start going back toward the roots of this country and the original intent of the founders, well documented and stated in the Constitution, citizens will have to move to Australia to pursue the American Dream.
(Sorry for misspellings)
This is a hilarious post to watch develop. The last 20 or so posts 'get it'. nutshell:our president is a progressive idiot and people cannot escape fast enough. HA HA HA we tried to tell you before the election but nobody would listen.............
Somewhere a community is severely missing it's idiot ORGANizer.
Pity the country.
Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?
Yes, I can. It happened to be the only economic system that actually worked.
Where's Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to call her a racist because she dares to be WHITE and disagree with Obama????? She quit because she figured out what a fraud he is.
Everyone in the administraion should go to Dr Walter E Williams site and read Economics for the Citizen. When cut and pasted into Word, it's about 14 pages. They'd have more knowledge of how economics really works, and could have saved a lot of money on tuition. I call it economics for dummys.
http://econfaculty.gmu.edu/wew/misc/EconomicsForTheCitizen.pdf
Summers and all the other "Good Old Boys" did the same to Christina Romer that they did to Brooksley Born when she tried to reign-in the insanity of the derivatives market.
Until President Obama wakes up the fact that Summers, Geithner, and all the others are serving their real masters on Wall Street nothing will get any better for the middle class.

Been there, done that...BP!
Obama has bad judgment, we need to kick his ass out of office as soon as possible before he destroys the rest of the country.
But liberals should still thank her for pushing for a bigger stimulus, there's a decent chance we would have gotten even less with someone else in that position.
A bigger stimulus. Pleeese. Has anyone in the Obama Administration ever take Econ 101 in college? There is a difference between ASSETS and EXPENSES. The Great Big Stimulus went almost exclusively to maintain unemployment benefits and state government workers salaries, benefits and retirement. Expenses all. Had the money gone to INFRASTRUCTURE (that's assets) then we might have something to show for our DEBT. What's infrastructure you ask? With the Trillion Dollar Stimulus we could right now be building 300 nuclear power stations all across America that would go a long way to ease our carbon-based energy system.
I am glad to see her go. I could never stand her on the morning talk shows defending the administration; never answering a question; always double-talk.
But the bigger story: I think "they" -- Obama, Geithner, Sumners, Romer, et al -- saw tomorrow's unemployment numbers and know they are about to get hammered. Someone had to take the fall -- Obama was probably livid that things just keep getting worse -- wanted to show he had the cajones to do something and so he fired somebody --- I've sat in on many high-level govt meetings where the boss got upset and would fire someone on the spot.
I could be wrong, but I think the PowerPoint slides today finally got Obama's "goat" and he decided to fire someone. Or she couldn't take the heat in the meeting, blaming her, so she got upset, and just resigned.
Paul Krugman is a good man from what I've seen, but up against Summers and Geither and where is Robert Rubin, Krugman would need armor and clear line to the President? (am not even sure of our President’s connection to Wall Street given this article “http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/12697/64796 -- Great American Bubble Machine--accusing Goldman of betting against its…By Matt Taibbi”).
Ever since I saw "The Warning" re: Brooksley Born and what she tried to tell congress about OTC derivatives and the need to regulate them, my eyes were opened. These Wall Street Insiders in the Whitehouse screwing the economy/banking etc so that their buddies on Wall Street came and come out ahead, as they continue to do!. (Then think -- I doubt that we would be in the economic mess we are today, if Congress had listened to Ms. Born). Summers, Geithner, Rubin and Greenspan are so tightly wound to Wall Street that I believe Nothing they do is for our good. Why does Geithner not want Elizabeth Warren? It has nothing to do with politics, and all to do with the fact that she would actually do her job and do what is correct for the working class people of this country. I think we need more Romers, Krugmans, Born’s and Warren’s that have the direct ear of our President and a lot less of the Summers, Geithners, Rubin’s et al.
Krugman? Krugman that admires the chinese model? Why would he risk his nobel prize rep by getting off the sidelines and join this group? Then he would own this mess.
Keep making excuses libs. How much longer can this charade go on? Its Bush's fault, white people are racist pigs, wahhh, wahhh, wahhh.
The problem is the inexperienced imbecile in the WH. I expect everyone to be fired/resign ad nauseum, with no improvement in unemployment.
Do you think in Sociology 203 they teach you to pretend you are a "Neo-con" and type in all caps some bigoted comments? Do you think that will win sympathy for the Progressive Way?
Viva La Donkey.
Funny how the Repugs created this mess and are trying to blame Dems. Losers.
Mary | August 5, 2010 9:36 PM
Honey, That excuse is getting so old it's not even funny anymore. I bet you blame your parents for your miserable, petty, little full of hate life, too.
Mary,
How can you say a $1.5 TRILLION deficit is GWB's fault when he at his worst left a $480 Billion deficit?! It is very obvious you don't know what caused this mess.
The financial crisis has Democratic politicians written all over it. Note: Remember the TARP program? I think it was $800 Billion? $300 billion was left for the new administration so GWB's deficit was even less than advertised.
The other reason for this economic mess is summed up in two words. Government Spending! Government spending does not grow an economy. For all of you Keynesians out there. You all seem to forget that the Keynesian economic model only works if you are at or almost full employment! 10% and higher does not get it done!
The rats are starting to leave the sinking ship?
Paul Krugman would be a dynamite replacement
Are you high? When it comes to economics, Krugman is wrong more often than even Larry Summers.
well actually its because she had a thing going for awhile and it ended...
Hmmm.. ONE DAY before the Unemployment Report. I guess she found out that our dear president is a liar & race- and class- baiting politician of the worst kind/ I pity our country under Obama.
I hope that this is just one of many dominos to fall between now and the mid-term elections.
Obama and his Progressive clowns have awakened a sleeping giant (the American people) and the Democrats are going to take a real beating come November! You can fool some of the people all the time and you can fool all people some of the time BUT YOU CANT FOOL ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME! God bless the USA!
Romer who??? Just joking, another Obama shill gone...Does she get unemployment if she quits?
I wonder if she has a job lined up, the competition is pretty tough...oh, wait! that's just for the other 10% +++ unemployed. She should have bailed when she predicted unemployment would not go over 8%.
This bit is just bizarre. That "forecast" was Romer's. Why should Summers "take the fall" for a "forecast" made by Romer?
Why, come to that, should either of them "take the fall" when the "forecast" is in a paper that constantly insists that the figure it gives for the probable headline unemployment number two years in the future is highly uncertain and that the only part of the analysis that is to be relied upon is the degree of the ameliorative effect of the stimulus package, not the absolute level to which unemployment will rise (that is, the total number of jobs saved/created by the stimulus, not the total number of jobs lost due to the depression). The claim that Obama "promised" that unemployment would not rise above 8% is simply an outright lie.
They should ALL resign....this is the most inept administration in American history. Worse than Carter! Taking a recession and turning it into a depression was the height of incompetentence.
Is it November yet? Someone has to put the brakes on these idiots before they sink us for good.
Another day when this administration is pushing the country over the edge. Maybe one day, after the US economic plane comes down and crashes, we'll realize that we are our own worst enemy. We can't keep putting people on the dole without a chance of future jobs and future success. Good night and good luck, America!
It never ceases to amaze me when I read liberal idiocy. The economic mess we are in is because people who couldn't afford to buy a house were given loans by banks being threatened by the Maxine Waters and Barney's Frank of the world.
Government got involved in the market and distorted it.
The market failed because of government intervention.
The liberals in this thread want not only more of the same, the want the government to pay for their house! Too bad the government can't just print the money to pay for the liberal utopia.
Commies have a serious mental disorder.
I'm glad to see her go, as she has been as much of a sham as the Dilettante In Chief. However, it only means that a new spot has been opened up in the Neophyte Administration for another loon completely disconnected from what most Americans want and need as well as how economies really work. Goodbye and good riddance, Dr. Romer. Please just work on publishing more theoretical papers and teaching graduate seminars. What we really need are some grown-ups with genuine real-world experience, accurate understandings of how capitalism works, and some common sense.
By the way, there has been precisely one comprehensive empirical study of the effects of the Stimulus package on the US economy. It's conclusions are that the stimulus averted a second Great Depression.
Here's a link (pdf file).
How does taking money out of the private sector (via tax hikes) stimulate the private sector? Heck, even Cuba is getting a clue. So sick of the tired line of tax cuts for the rich. Well, sorry but the rich pay the most in taxes and they are providing the jobs. It's painful for some to hear, but it is the truth. Warren Buffett provides jobs the homeless person on the street does not.
I'm reading a few of the comments here and find them baffling. People think Obama should be more progressive? There isn't the political will for it. By and large the American people do not believe the government is the engine of economic growth. Obama is running into a giant political wall.
But hey, I feel Obama's policies are disastrous and the economic uncertainty and looming tax hikes are destroying job growth. So if you guys want him to appoint Krugman... Anything to get Obama voted out sooner.
She was an honest person surrounded by liars and scum. Her last public "lie-fest" was too much for her. She's the one person in that White House who had ANY decency. (and no, I am NOT a lib)
Demand side is useless when the productive supply side is crippled, hamstrung, threatened and maligned. We in the Eastern Bloc had plenty of demand and the government could have pumped loads of money into people's paychecks but the risk taking capitalist pigs being dead or left the country, the coalition of uneducated but violent riff-raff and bolshevik intellectuals was incapable to provide the impossible.
If Romer has taken even Econ 101 (doubtful) she knows that government control hampers flow of information. It can never work.
Obama is an enemy of mankind trying to destroy the most productive engine of progress in the history of the universe and you Merkinsare cosmically stupid for electing him for anything above the PTA historian. You will rue the day...
Romer is a disgusting pig. Larry Summers, Romer, Geithner, Bernanke - they're all incompetent. Government programs don't create jobs; the governments stifles the economy.
She would never recover for her cowardice.
Go to "America; Where Are Your Economists?" at http://robbingamerica.blogspot.com/2010/01/taxesand-more-taxes-part-iii.html
Taking a recession and turning it into a depression was the height of incompetentence.
Given that they came in during a recession and the economy is now growing it's your economic analysis that is "incompetent." Almost as incompetent as your spelling.
The "trickle up" economics of the Obama Administration simply does not work. It's really not that hard to recognize this. Socialism was not what brought America its economic greatness from the 1940s through the 1990s, yet liberals insist on covering their eyes as they argue against the "evils" of corporations and the wealthy. All this while the Obamas take eight vacations this year.
She's a victim. She's a heroic woman. Men are bad.
She has been castigated relentlessly by http://www.robbingamerica.com for selling her soul to the devil - a soul that at Berkeley confirmed and published research that proved the effectiveness of tax cuts to increase growth and fight recessions.

Exactly! Why does everyone keep calling her a Progressive? Just because she prof'ed at Berekley? She sold her soul to get this job and no longer can sleep at night telling lie after lie.
You know I've always been afraid of Sommers being in charge of our countries economy, especially when you look at the destruction he left of the soviet Unions economy. He has screwed up more than a few economies around the globe why governments keep bringing him in is beyond me, unless the plan in the White House is to destroy capitalism
I never thought I would ever long for Jimmy Carter as President. But when compared to B.O., he looks like a bloody genius. Nothing this President has done has worked, nor is it likely ever to work. I am amazed that he still has an approval rating of 45%, but I guess that is a measure of all the leaches sucking off of the government teat. All his stimulus has been payoff to unions and the thugs found within those organizations. The actual unemployed in this country are almost 40 million, with no end in sight. With only 150 million adults of working age, that means we are well north of 22% unemployed nationwide. B.O. said a few months ago that he wasn't tired, he was just getting started. How can he get tired, when he is always on vacation?
Then take a look at the House and Senate. Did you wonder why when the Democrats took control of both in 2006, that unemployment started to rise? While everyone blames Bush for the recession, it started under the control of the Democrats who decided the agenda, tax code, and spending. But hey, who needs a job when you raise the minimum wage to a point where business people can no longer afford to hire people with minimum skills. So you got 50% unemployment for youth, instead of entry level jobs that they could learn from and grow with. Good job there Nancy! Hope they put you on an Air Force plane with ejection seats for the crew. Harry Reid, one of these days the land deal scams will be out in the open. Hope you enjoy your 8 by 12 cell.
People, wake up. Many people in the government should be going to jail. When the right discovers corruption with in their ranks, they tossed them out. When the left does, they are called congressman or senator for years to come.
Krugman??!! That Keynesian cult member....LOL. he's like Helicopter Ben's little brother with that "ironic beard", talk about an idiot. Glad to see Romer go. Another clueless academic with her "models"(when's the last time she actually held a real job?). Don't worry Barry will find another ex-JP Morgan/Goldman flunky to fill the position. Timmay and Larry will hook him up with some of their buddies I'm sure. What's Robert Rubin up to theses days?
The real "People's Party" is the "Tea Party". It is composed of VERY different people who all realize the same thing: it's time for the People to wake up and start running things.
We NEED our Constitution and we NEED to stop relying on Government to solve all our problems.
Where, oh where, is that good ol' CAN DO spirit that moved our ancestors to come here and build a life for themselves ?
It is NOT to be found in any official, program,or ideology.
It is NOT to be found in ANY group associated with the Communist Party Ideals (and that includes the WFP).
Because that way leads to overspending, class warfare, etc.
We need COMMON SENSE reforms, like TORT reform, not a lot of "liberal" hooey about the big fat cats, etc. while they just create more taxes and agencies.
We need to get the wimpy "Republicans" out and put in CONSERVATIVES/COMMON SENSE people who will agree to the "Contract FROM America".
Kindly go and READ this document. Support TERM LIMITS, posting of all bills online, etc., NOT increased "government" entitlements. ITS OUR TAX MONEY !! WE should be grown ups and decide how to use it, NOT a Central Planning Komittee !!
This time the "Dems" have gone too far with their infantile "Hope and Change" and free food for all, etc.
I'm with Jesus, teach a man to fish, etc.
Ken Royal====be careful what you wish for, if Wacky Barracky resigns, we get Joe "bite me" Biden.
That's like going from smelling dog poop to eating dog poop.
Better to vote the Dems out in November and let Congress rein in Obama.
Krugman! It's almost hard for me to believe that anybody listens or reads what this guy writes. He borders on fanatically stupid!
You people on here are soft and weak.
You will replace one crook for another and it goes on and on and on, while your country falls down around you.
You deserve neither security or Freedom.
The woman is a failure and could have held news conferences with the press to get attention and get things done.
She refused and set on her fat ass and did nothing and quits and goes home.
She is a quitter like Palin that steals your money.
Prepare yourselves for the coming second American REVOLUTION.
The Government is corrupt, Corporations are corrupt, the Suprem Court is corrupt.
You have lost your Democratic republic and you did nothing.
Prepare yourselves.
HELL IS COMING TO DINNER
Seeing her squirm through answers with that chit eating smile for awhile was kind of funny. Then the lying just got too much to bear and it was change the channel time, this was just propaganda. Bad propaganda at that.
They ought to appoint Oprah as chairwoman of Pres. Obama's Council of Economic Advisers. Diversity leadership will save the USA and beat China. Hire more women!
A failure in the office since the first day, but hardly the worst of the advisors around Obama that should leave by the closest exit. Within a month from the election, it will look like a lifeboat drill for anyone who ever associated themselves with Obama. No problem, Evita Peron, er Michelle, can take over and rule until her and the empty suit are both shown the door in 2012. By then however, I hope we have something left to save in America.

WE WILL FOLLOW everyone of the rats as them jump off the good ship obama for what they have DONE to the good PEOPLE of America and BRING THEM TO JUSTICE for the FRAUD that 'they' perpetrated upon the AMERICAN PEOPLE and the BANKRUPTING of America to put in their evil GLOBALIST AGENDA!
EVERYONE of these skunks WILL BE BROUGHT TO ACCOUNT and that INCLUDES the BANKSTERS that have been FUNDING them in their TRAITOROUS ACTS!!!

Krugman is a total douche as a replacement. He's as big a loser adviser as Summers. Think about about it:
Oblahblahma got a Nobel peace prize and the wars rage that he was supposed to end. The same idiot logic gave Krugman a 'prize' for his lunatic theories that can never work.
Haha, it's about time. However, it's not fair to make Romer a scapegoat for the President's failed policies.
Oh how great would http://mittromneycentral.com/on-the-issues/economy/ be?
Liberal Eater said: "Too bad the government can't just print the money to pay for the liberal utopia."
Give them time. Bernanke and Geithner will print more. They are that stupid!
Ms. Romer lacked three things that were essential to her job.
!. Grey hair.
2. A blue dress
3. Hemorrhoids
The "gray hair" would have given a persona of economic wisdom.
The "Blue Dress" would have given her the proper financial conservative credentials.
Hemorrhoids would have given her that Greenspan "constant look of concern" so called for in an economic crisis.
Hillary Clinton was right, "Obama's is just a speech."
The American people are suffering, unemployment is high, small businesses are bleeding, foreclosed homes are ubiquitous in our neighborhoods. An now, the one economic adviser who had some common sense is thrown out.
Fortunately for President Obama, the liberals and progressive voters will continue to support him no matter how many mediocre choices he makes.
Larry Summers is one of those guys who seems to always fail upwards.
Never coming back to this wed site (and never been here before). It's just to damn depressing. The commentors seems to be comprised of (60%) whiny-ass-titty-babbies who are going to take their ball and go home becuase the Obama Administration didn't usher in liberal political nirvana in 18 months; (20%) right wing trolls who push the "Obama is a socialist" meme; (10%) miscellaneous; and (10%) who have any idea what they're talking about. (The 80% in the first two categories make too many misinformed factual mistakes even to list, let alone rebut.) The 60% in the first group deserve the most blame. (The 20% of right wing trolls are from a psychotic universe beyond moral judgment.) If you bothered to look around, you'd see that moderately progressive legislation has a very hard time getting through the Senate. This country, even after the election of Obama, is still in the grip of very powerful entrenched right wing interests. Obama isn't a dicator. Cojones don't make things pass the Senate. Work to change the composiition of the Senate. Otherwise, grow up and support the most progressive administration in the last 50 years--and the most progressive it would be, conceivably, politically possible to elect in this country. To the extent the Administration isn't making your liberal dreams (and mine) come true, the country, its people, and its institutions are the problem, not the Administration.
What do you expect when you hire somebody with zero experience? The chickens are coming home to roost!
I wonder if they will bring her resignation letter directly to our Supreme Leader...while he is on the golf course or at his birthday party?
Krugman as a replacement? Let's find someone from the Friedman school who actually understands economics and human nature.
the problem with you left wingers is that for all of your education, you have no common sense. Socialism/Communism failed ecomomically and morally. You can't win. Paul Krugman indeed.
Obama Heal My Child! What could have gone wrong?!
Another "red" bites the dust.
Repeat after me:
Government "stimulus" packages DRAIN money from the economy and reallocate it disastrously. Obama took a terrible Bush tactic and made it worse. Just wait until the tax increases hit the market, and then watch the soup lines really begin to form.
"Paul Krugman would be a dynamite replacement and a good counter weight to Summers."
Absolutely right. If you want to play with dynamite.
I agree with my Liberal friends. She wasn't "upbeat" enough with the economic news. Oh, and as far as the "composition of the Senate" thing, the last time I checked, the Democrats held the majority.
the problem with you left wingers is that for all of your education, you have no common sense. Socialism/Communism failed ecomomically and morally. You can't win. Paul Krugman indeed.
This admin doesn’t deserve the likes of Christina Romer, apparently she’s finally realized it. In a 2010 reprint of her 2007 Essay on the Macroeconomic Effects of Tax Changes, the findings include:
“Tax increases are highly contractionary… The effects are strongly significant, highly robust, and much larger than those obtained using broader measures of tax changes.”
“Our results indicate that tax changes have very large effects on output. Our baseline specification implies that an exogenous tax increase of one percent of GDP lowers real GDP by almost three percent.”
The Obama admin is at odds with the American people on just about every important issue you can list; healthcare, stimulus spending, taxes, cap and trade, illegal immigration, terrorist trials, Israel/Palestinian issues, on and on. Name one positive area and I will gladly give him credit. Yet the liberal left continues to defend admin policies and adamantly adhere to their ideology while demanding that the right ‘moderates to the center’. The fact is that this administration, touted as the best and brightest, is making the Bush admin look smart.
Throughout the last 24 months, liberals have repeatedly taken shots at salt of the earth Americans with repulsive comments like chattering class, tea bagger, and Nazi. Consider the irony. Abhorrent taunts such as these are not helping the left. Indeed these are serving to further diminish the already shrinking base of leftist ideologues and push more and more American voters toward the mainstream - towards conservative, patriotic values based on a fondness for America’s past and future greatness and compassion. This is in direct contrast to those on the fringe left who harbor disdain and contempt for the very country which has provided them every opportunity and liberty they could ever strive for. These ‘Americans in name only’ would sooner defend terrorists than defend our men and women in uniform who by their bravery and commitment make their pathetic existence possible.
Conservatives 42%
Moderates 37%
Liberals 20% and dwindling
At least one good thing has come out of the Obama experiment – we now know that anyone can indeed become President.
Romer is an idiot. Good riddance. Obama will hire another Keynesian and continue on with his Keynesian policies that didn't work during the Great Depression or the Carter years and aren't working now.
A free market thinker should be hired, but Obama doesn't want a free market.
- "You have to wonder why Summers isn't the one that should be taking the fall."
Huh?? ROMER's NAME is on the report. She is the worst sort of ideology-blinded hack.
None of these people has ever held a real job. Is it any wonder they are demolishing our real economy??
The rats are going to be leaving the sinking ship soon. No one likes working for an incompetent megalomaniac. That is, Barack Obama, the self-admitted youthful drug abuser. Pray for him.
Psalms 109:8
Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
AMEN!
Sure, you need Krugman and an even bigger stimulus, so we can throw MORE trillions in the hole, both deficit and debt.
Did you notice Social Sec. hit the red this week, when not predicted to do so until at the minimum, 2017? Some said 2050. But the debt has come due already.
Soc. Sec. is owed $39 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities, so you really need someone advising a president who has never worked at anything in his life to spend more money on unions and state employees.
How about Medicare and Medicaid? Also, both entirely defunct. AND THEN, there is Obamacare that they can't even get going because Sebelius has 10,000 decisions to make before 2011 so she can set up dozens of committees and agencies and bureaus and advisories and panels and councils to tell you what kind of health care you should want and what the gov't isn't going to cover.
Don't worry, though, about money: next year the Bush tax cuts elapse, so yours will go up; your med. ins. is going to be added to your income and taxed in 2011, and 100s of taxes are embedded in the Patient Protection Act that will generate all that gov't money that doesn't belong to you.
It belongs to Obama.
Most of the posts on this site are ridiculous. Most of these posts state that some miracle worker is going to join the adminstration and provide some magic solution. The solution is to reduce the role of government and let the economy grow organically. Every stimulus grant, small business loan program, etc., is not how jobs and sustainable business is created. In brief, the government needs to reduce its size to less than 20% GDP and stay there. Every dollar they print, more confidence is lost, and the country gets weaker.
Paul Krugman Gives Up - the one trick pony can't handle the truth:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/08/paul_krugman_gives_up_1.html
I proudly called on Ms Romer today to resign on Yahoo. I'm glad she decided on her own to do the right thing. She is too good of an economist to bend over and take it from a dedicated Marxist
She's a racist otherwise she would stay. She just hates blacks.
Romer is brilliant.
Primarily an academic, she is simply too honest and forthright for the partisan politics of Washington.
Obama should have dumped Wall Street fanboys Geithner and Summers and promoted Romer long ago.
Ms Romer is obviously looking at 9.5% UNEMPLOYMENT likely to go higher over the next 6 months. A bloated and more costly Government! Trillion and trillions in corrupt spending and debt! And an economy teetering on the edge of a double digit recession. The arrogant left wing policies of Obama and the Democrats have damaged the nation and are failing utterly. Best to get out before the worst comes and keep her reputation partially intact!!! Smart Move on her part!!!
Y'all are a bunch of nieve, blinded effing idiots!!!
Its all about the jews!!!!! Summers aint going
anywhere folks!!
RACISM ! THAT'S WHAT IT IS . SHE'S BEING FORCED OUT BECAUSE SHE"S WHITE !

I am sure she has a very bright mind but to hear her argue a position is like listening to Minnie Mouse or Betty Boop.
Take the Marxist dung and shove it. 14 Trillion dollars in debt will soon give way to investors deciding America is a BAD investment, the dollar will collapse and we'll see inflation in the hundreds of percents. All because the Leftist Progressives are shredding the constitution to create a nanny state, and weak Republicans don't have the nerve to talk to Americans like adults. Soon, our government won't be able to borrow any more money, and all the Marxist entitlement programs will vanish into the thin air of failed ideology. Then let the investigations into this Leftist administration begin.
Come on Christina, get cho hed n da game. Yer sposta yell RACISM on your way out.
Too bad the rest of the crew aren't leaving, friggin pack of parasitic dogs!!
Unbelievable the number of people on this blog who actually think Obama is a "centrist" and Summers a "right winger".
Obama is a "centrist" like Chavez is "centrist", and Summers is a "right winger" only in comparison to Krugman, who has advised us to do exactly what Greece did over the last 20 years, with the stellar results we have seen in Greece.
Where do you guys come from? Where did you go to school and learn your history, your economics and your Constitution? Or did you?
Let the Greek Chorus wail! Great Pan Obama is Dead!
They haven't a clue on what to do. They've backed themselves into a corner letting the "Bush tax cuts for the wealthy" expire, which will add 1 or 2 more points to the unemployment rolls. If they let the Bush tax cuts expire, is that considered Bush's fault too? Communists don't know how to create real jobs, just fake ones. How about a national lottery where all the street erchants can dream of getting out of the ghetto once a week.
Her name isn't 'Patsy'. The Greater Depression / Cloward-Piven Socialism won't be blamed on her. Invest in canned goods!!
This President is a Fraud. All you suckers who voted for him will feel the pain , unfortunately all of us will feel the pain, He is doing his best to destroy the free market, the very system that undeniably gave this nation its wealth and prosperity. He and his party has guaranteed that this nation will become bankrupt.
Just fix the problem at the source; replace Obama.
"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."
Go back to the lecture hall and writing papers, professor. You have your panties in a wad because the President won't return your calls? Well, how about instead of worrying where you peck on the totem pole instead you came up with some better economic policies that created jobs and economic growth? Time for you, and the rest of the clueless Obama economic team, to go back to Namby-Pamby land and bring in some people who understand the one and only one thing this country needs right now: JOBS. It isn't about YOU. It is about US.
another Obummer failure........what a shock.........sorriest administration in history and the whole country is slowly figuring it out..............we are on the Obummer titanic
Every time I watched her speak on tv I would slip my hand down my shorts and rub one off...I am going to miss her
Another Keynesian fallout…good riddance. Now, to dispense the rest of this administration's noise.
The Obama administration reminds me of Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland movies. You know, the ones where they would say "Let's put on a show" and proceed to build a stage in the garage. Obama's like--"Heck, let's pretend like we're running the country." Obama counted on U.S. citizens to be dumb enough to vote him in--and we didn't disappoint him!
Krugman---dear lord, NO! The administration needs to stop creating policies that make workers more expensive to hire (healthcare, tax increases, 99 weeks of unemployment benefits, etc.). If you're unemployed then you would be best served by an economic advisor who understands that jobs are created when businesses have incentives for hiring workers, including permanent lower business taxes and expectations of stable inflation. Absent those, businesses will continue to hunker down, expand through automation and outsourcing, and NOT hire more workers. In other words, businesses are acting rationally, just as you would faced with the same incentives.
Here I sit reading this progressive drivel and wonder what that stuff is you are smoking, or drinking! I"m 64 years old, soon to be 65. You complain about the last 30 years of capitilism that you say brought down this country but you fail to realize WHAT A LIE THAT IS! Stop drinking the kool aid Bubba and smell what they are selling you!
I'm a "blue collar" worker, ie, I never made more than $48k in a single year in my life and most years it was around $38K. When I retired at (60 years old) I was in a house that was 6 years old that was paid for when I moved in it back in 2000! I don't owe anybody jack and still have enough money in IRA CDs that I don't touch the principle with what I draw each month! How I did all this was working for RICH people that gave me a JOB and an OPPORTUNITY to better myself! NO UNION, etc, Just an honest days pay for an honest days work! Of course, some here wouldn't know what that is since you've been on the public dole your entire life!
So you can complain about conservatives this and rich people that and this leftist group or that right wing group but in the end, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO RETIRE? HOW MUCH OF YOUR S** IS PAID FOR? And are you going to stand with your hand out waiting for Obummer to give you some cash out of his "stash", ie, that $471 BILLION DOLLARS of STIMULUS money that HAS NOT BEEN SPENT YET??
Get a life people!! Capitalism got us this far, and it will get us on down the road if you will just WORK for what you want instead of standing around waiting for someone to give you a hand out!
So who's next in the Obama pipeline? Marx and Engels?
It's time to appoint Charlie Munger as the the Chair of the CEA. Buffett is first choice but he has reportedly already declined. Munger would take the job and, I think, quickly focus the Administration on the central issue: jobs. Five simple words to Obama "Get out of the way." Stop throwing up roadblocks to business expansion, entrepreneurial investment and economic growth.
She was doomed to fail by the man-child who couldn't run a lemonade stand! Obama running the USA as his first job! Well, shut my mouth!!!
I love to smell Christine's panties after she fingered herself thinking about Janet Reno...
I will not be surprised if tomorrow Chairman Maobama blames Bush for his bhief economic advisers resignation.
She probably was NOT happy about the arugula only diet that the Calorie Police (aka Michelle Antoinette) was placing her on.
When Sonia Soto and Elana [P]agan get the memo, they may go too.
"get krugman
mike "
Pfft. You really do hate this country, don't you? Why waste time with Krugman when we can all commit suicide now without wasting the time.
Let's just get this one thing straight...the only reason the unemployment rate is EVEN 9.5% is because the bureau of labor statistics simply reduced the number of workers in the workforce by about 8 MILLION. Have we forgotten that? The revised numbers last year showed that we lost another million jobs, but somehow, MAGICALLY, our unemployment rate WENT DOWN!!
This isn't even Ripley's, Believe it or NOT!!
SHE IS BAILING BEFORE THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE EVENTUALLY HITS 16 - 17%.
OMG have you ever seen her do a TV interview what a total train wreck. Possibly the most ill-equipped mouthpiece for economic policy since John Snow.
Glad to see her go. I'd rather have an articulate spokesperson than an academic with no political skills.
Nothing surprising about this. Take a look at the Department of Labor's graph that overlays the House Majority party with the timeline of unemployment for the past 15 years. The Democrats make the unemployment rate launch upward on the graph like a Saturn V rocket launch.....especially from 2006 till now. Almost a vertical rise in the graph. Spend tax borrow spend tax borrow spend tax borrow spend tax borrow. My God, I hope I never live to see another Democrat controlled government. Their statist kenysian marxist mentally ill economic policies have destroyed American families and have killed 7,000,000 jobs in just 48 months!!!
Krugman?
More socialism?
Really?
Depraved group here, even supply side is socialism without taxes.
At some point the non-productive people, investments, or endeavours have to make room that which is right, the Austrian Economic model is the model that correctly puts economics into harmony with nature (physics) everything else is called borrowing (usury).
Fun to watch the non-analytics run over the cliff, well good luck with your "centrist".
Fat and stupid is not what we need in that position.
Lest we forget, Romer is part of the regime of Obama that in just 18 months has piled $5 Billion PER DAY of debt onto every man, woman and child in America......3 times the debt of Bush's entire 8 year term!!! [Washinton Times - June 3, 2010]
@ md: Bravo and well written. A welcome respite from those on this site who are leaving the democrats for the workers party (are you serious?) and writing pithy comments on Romer's alleged intellectual shallowness that he observed at grad school.
Too few progressives in this administraton? No, too many self loathing, devious, lying, crisis awaiting idealogues. It appears Romer looks uncomfortable as she speaks support for obama's policies? Of course she's uncomfortable- anyone who wants this country to succeed would be uncomfortable.
I can think of one obama achievement: hopefully it will be a long long time before the American public gets fooled by a pretender like obama again.
Leftists and liberals- enjoy the party now because the punchbowl will soon be taken away. The people slumbered and you took advantage, but the more light that shines on your lousy statist experiment the less people want it. It's almost over but you leave us with obamacare, a cowardly budget plan and the exploding deficit, Kagan the SCJ who has never been a judge, ad nauseum.
Despite your best leftist efforts, the constitution and capitalism will make this country great once again and turn you asunder.
Lone Gunman,
Good on ya' mate! I'm 72 and I frankly envy your sensible history. I thought when I started reading this thread that I had stumbled onto The Daily Kos and those lunatic Marxists. The salutary references to that closet Progressive Krugman reinforced my concerns. There are SO MANY irresponsibly stupid people out there, I fear for Old Glory.
Semper Fi, friend,
get rid of the whole bunch..Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Biden etc. etc. Anti-American as you can get!!!
Romer's job was impossible from the start and I predict that ultimately Obama will find the same to be true for his job. The level of both private and public debt cannot possibly be serviced any more and much of it will not be paid back. We are in a deflation. That means that big government, big living, big spending, big plans and -- sniff sniff -- the big American dream are off the agenda for the indefinite future. When it really starts to power down into a negative feedback loop, we will know that government has lost whatever control they have. When we finally hit rock bottom the liberal lies will finally stop and that alone will make all the financial pain worth it. At that point we will be faced with the task of starting over and those who were able to keep their savings through it all will be in charge.
The iron laws of economics always assert themselves. You CANNOT spend more than you make without consequences. And friends, we passed the point of no return many years ago. Neither Romer nor Summers can really change anything at this point.
Pass the popcorn.
I'm having fun watching progressive marxists eat each other.
Oh, and socialism sucks!
Ms Romer was just another leftist with no ideas.
Her defense of Obama's policies was pathetic. She is leaving, almost certainly, because she sees the handwriting on the wall.
Come November we will begin the process of taking this country back from these socialists....and not a moment to soon.
Having inherited the worse economic mess since that of the great depression , the Obama administration has had to overcome Republican opposition to every program or solution proposed by the administration. They had had to compromise to get anything through the Senate with the likes of Ben Nelson voting with the Republicans. No economist can proposed 'radical' solutions and expect to get them through the Congress so compromise was necessary.
Krugman would be a great choice to replace her but I doubt he will be nominated do to his outspoken opinions but one never knows.
"Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?" Now that's bunk. Supply side works every time it's tried. But a healthy economy is not the objective of this bunch.
Personal damage control.....Sure, she has accomplished her devious mission. Back to the University to corrupt more skulls full of mush to her socialist/Keynesian ways. I wonder what kind of compensation package someone gets at that level. The rats are running back under the fridge. We must stomp them down before they find there University hide outs until the next glorious mission.
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the rumor of the mortgage forgiveness deal tonight...
Obama is a sick man. He should be removed from office for medical reasons. He's out of his mind with hate for America, love for America's enemies, and an intense desire to punish white people.
No manufacturing, bad trade laws, only a service economy, and to big to fail equals big trouble
Joe American is right.
Arne & Earl Shumaker- you are the enemy
Romer was a complete dingbat Mary Poppins. I don't think she could draw a supply demand curve any more than she could win a game of tic-tac-toe. Just to listen to her you would want to do a bank run and trade your cash for gold.
Good freaking riddance. Obama is a dud, but he's not totally stupid. And the reason she didn't have a direct line to Obama is because Obama got tired of her within the first 30 seconds of her shrill voice and empty spin.
Krugman??
He's exactly what we DON'T need: a Federal Reserve apologist who thinks NOT ENOUGH money has been conjured out of thin air!
Tyler Durdin is correct. The Austrian model is the best one: a sound currency, with emphasis on production rather than on consumption.
Wanna see bunk economics? See our current economy managed by our current adminstration for reference.
So funny that progressives can slap the crap out of conservatives when they're own policies stink on ice and the numbers show it. Nothing that they've done is working, yet the chutzpha is still rampant.
You can rant til the cows come how but the country isn't responding to your utopian theories. That crap doesn't work in the real world.
What do we have to do, go bankrupt before you get it? Dense.
Oh, that is brilliant. Consider Krugman. Krugman has not been right about anything. Ever. Socialism has never worked anywhere, yet we still have you progressives (communists) who want a 1950's Cuban Chevrolet economic mandate. My God, please .....all of you just move to California.....we need to clean house in November and send all you socialists to California where we will encourage you to start your own socialist country with the illegal foriegn invaders you can pay for. Think about it....You can rename the state to Pelosifornia and redistribute and share the drugs, welfare and misery.
I would probably leave too if I had a seemingly powerful position and yet no one took me seriously! You go Girl!
Any one who thinks the society benefits by the government taking HUGE amounts of money from those who earned it is either a government employee or an idiot whose parents never taught them how to earn a living WITHOUT stealing.
Paul Krugman would be a dynamite replacement and a good counter weight to Summers.
MicheleMoore-Happy1 | August 5, 2010 6:49 PM
Are these leftists
a) insane
b) have no idea how economic systems flourish
c) actively trying to destroy our country with bad policy
d) all of the above
my thought is D
Rats always leave a sinking ship.
Is this a joke site? I'm reading these comments about Krugman. Good grief, you're kidding me right? Romer jumping ship before it's completely underwater. 2 more years of Obama and the American Dream will have sunk into the abyss of history.
Robbing Peter to pay the poor is NOT the way to economic success.
Good timing Christina. Let Obama, Summers, Geithner and Bernanke take the blame for what's coming.
Hell, They would be better off if they ditched the entire Administration and started over with a group that werent community organizers and tax cheats.
Our executive branch makes me ILL. Hell, our Legislative branch make me ill.
Lets be honest, The government Since 92 (maybe even 88) has just made me ill.
Supply side economics is sound and has worked beautifully every time is has been used. Democrats point to the deficits run up during those years, but that is because of unrestrained spending. Supply side economics has increased revenue unfailingly. Dumbocrats hate it because they deem it "unfair". What is really unfair is the high unemployment and stagnation of Keynesian economics, a dismal failure every single time.
When you have a president and administration that has to use a phrase like 'saved or created', you know they are liars and don't have a clue about free market economic prosperity.
You mean Communism doesn't work? Oh Nooos! The Russians will be so disappoin... Oh wait. Good call lady. Not that this is a mystery to anyone who isn't a communist.
Romer once argued the plausible case that tax cuts stimulate economic growth. Then, in order to fit in with the soak-the-rich-Keynsian crowd she decided that rasing taxes during a deep recession was sound economic policy. Glad she is going. Wish she would take all the other economic illiterates in this administration with her.
What kind of economic illiterate doesn't understand that borrowing money that hasn't been earned yet to help those that should be allowed to fail following bankruptcy law is completely insane? Any dupe knows that you don't want to be the last one holding the potato when the buzzer goes off.
Get a clue. Vote out the Dems in November. I can't wait.
I am glad she is going because I could not stand hearing her annoying voice! Furthermore, any damn fool who actually believes government can spend itself out of our financial (entitlement) predictament is not worthy to hold job.
If it's true that Summers and Geithner have the access to Obama more then Romer and Obama has listened to and adopted the ideas of the wall street guys then why is it the wall street thugs(high income wall street traders and CEO's) are upset with Obama. There is more here then we know.
The problem with liberalism:
A wage-taker is not a wage-earner.
You people are kidding. Blaming on a little fish in a sea of sharks. Why blame her? Obama has a roomful of economist at his disposal. Probably, the prez doesn't like woman. I really don't care. The economy is base on the belief of one man- the president of the united states. I get a kick to hear Obama is a right of center centrist. LOL. You people are either stupid or ignorant. You people have no idea who this woman is. Before throwing someone under the bus, look at the leader who put them there in the first place.
Marx was wrong. Obama is the opiate of the masses. These leftists and proggies are THE dumbest people on earth, pretending to be against the exploitation of one man against another but in truth the devastating reality is they are the most servile, most astonishly stupid plutocrats to have ever stood erect. They have nothing left to rationalise or resolve in their corrupt folly. Simply, go away and stay away.
HERE'S a WINNER!! "anon" say's

In RESPONSE to this SIGNED post by Barbara:
Yes, she is way too good for such a corrupt government - I've ended up joining the Working Families Party in Oregon - i reach my end after voting for Democrats 50 years, their economic theories are bunk. We need a peoples party to pull us back from the brink.
Barbara Bartschi | August 5, 2010 6:38 PM
Yes, anon, throw your garbage as you hide behind "anon"
I would replace Romer with Lew Rockwell, Geithner with Joseph Salerno and Summers with Marc Faber. Out with the whole of Keynesians and other such rabble that Obama has brought to town - they're all incompetent and all of their economic theories leak.
If they really wanted to get the Economy on the correct path, they'd bring PETER SCHIFF, RON PAUL or any of the other Austrian economists who predicted this whole mess years before anyone else had a clue.
Look up "Peter Schiff was Right" on youtube and you'll see.

Possibly the President is a closeted sexist? He listens to Summers and Geithner and they are consistently wrong and has this woman of wisdom at his beck and yet she get's no audience. Hmmm

"I'll sit the election out if Palin is the other candidate. Heck, maybe they're both equally stupid."
Thats fine if you dont like Palin, but puh-leeze...
She gave up the best paying ,and most politically powerful job she had(to that point..yeah shes a quitter!)because she was disgusted by the good ol' boy corruption in her party.Yeah thats right, she risked her entire political career to fight corruption in her own party(name ANY other politician whos done so).Cant have that crazy right wing snowbilly who puts principal over party now!Meanwhile Obama was voting"present" half the time and hanging out with Ayers,Rev.Wright and Tony Rezko.
Also as Governor of Alaska she cut spending by almost 20 %(compared to the previous governors last budget),and earmark requests by over 60%...yet had a 75% plus approval rating.Nah cant have that dumb broad anywhere near D.C.
Lets follow the Krugman advice...more stealfromus packages, and follow the brilliant Chi-comm model!
Isn't going to a Berkley prof for economic advice a lot like looking to someone from a party school for advice on how to get astronauts to Mars?
It matters not whether any of the present progressive administration quit or stay working. Their agenda will not work here in America. They will be little remembered.
This country has too many hard working frugal center right people who only vote when they are needed. They are the same who volunteer for the military when the country or our allies are threatened. They are the ones who keep their lawns mowed, do not seek hand outs, keep their house painted, pay all their due taxes, strive to make a life so their children have it better then they did and have great pride in their country.
This president and his family will be scorned for two or three generations while his agenda is erased and the judicial benches are cleaned of activists. After that he will continue to be known as the worst US president ever to serve.
Fantastic news! Another Progressive jumps ship! It's warms my heart to see them scatter with the light of truth is shown on those dark holes of freedom. Now if we can just hold the rest of them back until November, maybe we can throw the rest of them off the ship!
So another rat leaves the sinking ship, and the libs around here are complaining the Commies aren't communist enough. Hilarious.
Actually when you look at 'progressive' ideology and begin to examine it, all of it is built on the propagation of envy and judgementalism. You have to judge that someone else has more than you and then out of envy 'determine' that it is not fair that they have more! Vapid

You ALL miss the point. Obama is in complete control. He is anti capitalism & anti small business. That in itself should be enough. Anyone on here who , by now, can't see he is a massively radical leftist/Marxist , then they are either ignorant of too brainwashed to matter anymore.
He said it himself he was to redistribute wealth.
and that means what folks? huh What?
MARXISM 101
How's the Hoax & Change Ameri(k)a? Have we all learned our lesson yet? Bush wasn't such a bad guy afterall eh?
So, well then. Obama and his posse suck at healthcare, economics, intelligence and security. Not sure they understand anything beyond the most unproductive, illusory human enterprises. They even get a failing grade on the old leftist strategies of 'cry racism', 'point and shout right winger!', and my favorite 'free stuff for adult children' - it's truly as if even in their crapped out, illegitimate pasttimes they can't make a sufficient go of it to get anywhere at all. Wow, while no one was looking, the Left up and died and left a rotting stench in the air like a beached carp. Hmm.
So they're burying Aunt Bee. I wonder who will now speak for the administration on Economic matters.
Marchion stop already with the party talking points . It so friggin worm out already . we had a Democrat congress for year . Whatever he inherited he not only didn't correct but he made it 10 times worse in that little year/ What are you going to use an an excuse when it's ONLY 2 years? Spending is TOTALLY out of control. Do you REALLY know what out of control means? Obama is a major disaster and will have us a 3rd rate 3rd world country when he's done.
Christina Romer is a good economist, as is her husband, but unfortunately she sold out to Obama. If you read her research you would see that there is no way she actually believes the stuff she helped push. It's a shame, but it must be more cool to work for the POTUS then it is to stick to your core beliefs.
WHO ARE YOU KIDDING?
THERE ARE NO, REPEAT, NO ECONOMIC ADVISORS IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
HAD THERE BEEN OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS WE WOULD HAVE NOTICED.
NOW WE WILL ONLY NOTICE THE BIG, BIG, BIG HIT TO OUR PAYCHECKS NEXT YEAR.
JEFFERSON WAS RIGHT.
Obama is a charlatan. He hasn't got the first clue about how to do anything, but what did we expect from the community organizer in chief? How is all that collectivist claptrap about hope and change working out for everyone? If anyone posting on this site had any idea what wealth is and how jobs get created, I missed it. It is stupid to print money for the government to spend on useless projects and call that "economic stimulus". That is what Paul Krugman always preaches. I'm just saying.
If government just prints all the money it wants to spend and arbitrarily increases the money supply, everyone's money becomes more worthless because no wealth was created to give the money value. If everyone's money is more worthless, it takes more money to buy everything. This is inflation. You can't save money because your money is always losing its value. Money only represents wealth, and while it is convenient tender to carry, wealth is acquired only when you produce more value than you consume. That will never change, no matter how much collectivist clap trap we are subjected to by politicians.
frankh9201
Your comment has at least 3 complete lies in it . deal with facts junior and stop with the excuses already . Only a fool couldn't see the double disaster this clown has caused. SPENDING is OFF THE HOOK moron
Newsflash, the jobs situation has more to do with technological innovation akin to the introduction and adoption of electricity than government policy, taxes, whatever. 100 years ago the markets for coal, wood and gas were the norm with all of the ancillary manufacturing and transportation jobs that went with it. Then there was this scaaaaary new thing, electricity. No one took it seriously, it was a parlor trick, it was dangerous, people would NEVER have the stuff in their house. That was the conventional wisdom among the fat and happy coal, wood and gas gang then... guess what, there were so many cool things that electricity could power quietly, cleanly and virtually magically that the early adopters had it installed. Imagine having the Joneses over to check it out. You know Mrs. Jones just wouldn't relent until Mr. Jones got it for their house too. Soon the demand for coal, wood and gas dwindled. Jobs were lost. I'm pretty sure we had the first Depression, maybe because the financial guys were all heavily vested in the old not the new.
The personal computer was introduced into business in the 80s and grew through the early 90s. As more user-friendly interfaces and programs were introduced, offices no longer needed file clerks, secretaries, adding machines, pens, paper, overnight services, mailroom staff... certainly far less so than they did pre-80s.
Now the Internet and new personal wired mobile devices are disintermediating all kinds of things, from the Yellow Pages to the Rolodex to brick and mortar retail, to books, to landlines, to DVDs... the list goes on and on. And those sectors also employ all kinds of people whom simply are no longer needed.
It's not that technological innovation should be abandoned, never that, it's that it takes the workforce a while to adjust to the new markets. Who would ever have imagined that businesses now need to hire people to respond to customers on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter? Or hire bloggers to create content for their sites? The new economy is taking shape. People lose jobs, people get new jobs, some people aren't assimilated. It's the law of the jungle, never pretty, nice, or controlled. It's string theory in tangible form.
I do agree that the Obama administration is being mis-served by the old Clinton Admin hucksters (Summers, Emmanuel) and do wish he'd ditch these hacks. Along with the former Wall Streeters. None of these folks should have any role in policy-making, particularly Summers and Emmanuel. Those guys have too many axes to grind, too many fantasies of "Clinton Redux," and their level best to eff with the Republicans. Counterproductive, street fights usually are. We have serious matters at hand, kick these operators to the curb.
And to anyone who things that there's no such thing as responsible progressive capitalism, check out The Natural Step organization, Whole Foods Markets (which just posted an insanely profitable quarter), Alvarado Street Bakery, Patagonia... these are business 2.0 companies that are doing just fine, profitable, expanding, hiring. If the old guard would stop being so stubborn and caught in the manufacturing age mindset and philosophy (Forbes magazine wrote about this in an article talking about "What's Wrong With B-Schools?") maybe they could re-tool their businesses to survive in the new economy. The answer (Republican congressfolk, listen up) is not to reverse or slow down this painful process, or to turn back the clock so the dinosaurs get a few more good years.
And LOVE the idea of Elizabeth Warren taking over all economic policymaking, you go girl! Then put a bunch of frugal Midwestern housewives who clip coupons in Congress and we can git 'er done.
Oh and for pete's sake, extend the unemployment benefits for the poor folks who've been laid off, what on earth is wrong with those idiots in Congress? These people aren't sitting home living fat and happy on these checks, trust me. If you've ever had the thrill of collecting unemployment, you'd know firsthand that it sucks.
Liberals lack any discernment to see how much of a Marxist Obama really is. He's trying to ruin this nation asap and doing a good job at it so far. Bush was at least able to pull the nation together and out of the Clinton recession after 9/11. And yes the GOP majority then spent too much, but mostly on the wars. The dems took over CONgress in Jan. '07 and it's been all downhill since then. Obow has blown so much money that the nation is more divided and broke than anyone alive can remember. We can't even pay the interest on the debt! Obow is a radical leftist who needs to be removed in whatever way, now!
Obow's decision making just really, really sucks, so he should be thrown out after November if the GOP retakes congress.
Here is one advisor who obviously wasn't being taken seriously. Kagen in/romer out.
Here is an interesting video interview with Romer from February.....it is fascinating to watch her defend something that she did not believe in.....
http://www.newslook.com/videos/187119-romer-assesses-new-bipartisan-jobs-bill-in-senate
All she ever did was lie for Obama, a real Dreamer who knew enough about economics to teach but not to apply as are the rest of those crackpots advising Mr. Stupid. Oh and then there's Larry Summers, I wonder how much Loot he's scammed while he's been in there.
It was always so sad to hear her give the same speech every month when the unemployment numbers came out. I think she would do well on Biggest Losers.
Progressive Capitalist
with all your yapping you miss the boat entirely. Obama is a Marxist , has been taught and influenced by Marxist and follows Marxist tenants. That is all anyone needs to know. He is hell bent on destroying Capitalism , all other points are moot .
Amen Justin Time . Thank God the parasites are still a minority.Their breeders ,the likes of Krugman ,Pelosi ,any Kennedy and Frank must be purged from public life and their policies forever discarded .Only then will the American underclass arise and enjoy the freedom and prosperity that Justin Time's good Americans know and love.
Krugman is a laughable idiot.
I want Hayek!!
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift up the wage earner by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away peoples initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.
For everyone giving her well wishes on her departure, why not educate yourself on her writing and philosophies while she was a professor first then determine if you are really sad to see her go?
The difference between her and Summers is that Summers knows politics and worked for Clinton, while Rommer is disconnected with reality, never owned or ran a business, and is as close to a Socialist as you can get.
She probably got the boot cause if you read back on the origins of the current deficit spending, they came out of her line of thinking.
I thought that the comment by Anonymous was

It's strange that Democrats don't check the credentials of those who call themselves Democrats instead of blindly supporting them. Obama is not and never was a Democrat. He is a Marxist and will have destroyed the Democrat party by the time he is done... as well as the American economy.
Mama tinkles would do a bang-up job for the economy compared to any of these clowns.Does to much ejukashun push common sense and logic out of the brain?
All these Ivy leaguers running everything into the ground.Yet Ma and Pa kettle, high school dropouts, can run a profitable business for decades.
It won't make any difference. The country is coming apart. The feds are suing the states (immgtn), the states are suing the feds (healthcare), all the while unemployment goes up.
We are going down. No leadership anywhere.
Rats jumping ship.....Voted for Obama, but boy am I sorry! I am an independent now and will vote for a person NOT a party!
The Business cycle is greater than Obama his advisors and Krugman (yikes Krugman?). In fact its amazing that it has done as well as it has considering the devastating harm the Federal Gov't has inflicted there upon. It escapes me how Leftys (as there are no liberals remaining in America) fail to appreciate the efficiency of nor the individual creativity necessary for markets to allocate goods among the population. LEFTIES always seeking to champion some outlining cause no matter how irrational or damaging to our society so as to gain recognition from mankind's fallible gullible nature. The dark ages are not of the past rather without America's worldly economic prowess they are of the present.

that Obama had Marxist tenants. Does the White

Hmmm, seems things are not going so well with Obamanomics, aka "Bring Everybody Down To Poverty Levels." I has never worked and it never will as eventually the rich will either move or you run out of rich people to tax.
I really want to see Paul Krugman put his money where his mouth is. To all these people who are drooling here about that possibility, I say, Yes! Let him put his dreamy recommendations into action and see what his Nobel Prize is really worth.
Ah. Yet another flunkie to fall on their sword to mask to intellectual failings of the Idiot-in-chief. D'uhbama strikes again. And Captain Clueless would have his thralls think Sarah Palin is uninformed. LOL. Still the big suprise is that people are suprised by The One's abysmal failures.
No way that Obama and crew will note what is said here, or any other site for that matter. This master plan has been in the works for generations, and they'll continue to strike while they believe the voting population has been sufficienly softened up such that none of their left wing, globalist, socialist and communist propositions will prompt any real resistance.
Too late for reason. Vote them out, or ready yourselves for more Obamatrauma and the death of our nation.
Sarafina - I believe you haven't yet to recognize the folly of your past presidential vote - I'll bet what ever attraction to Obama will again surface in a democratic candidate. How about Hillary? So you you shouldn't be Sorry you should be ashamed that you haven't any idea of how patriotism (because you believe its irrelevant and silly or so taught to think as such)means in conducting gov't seriously.
another rat leaving a sinking ship.
Hillary Clinton should be very happy having the Clinton economic team shaping the administration's economic policies. She has the people in office who brought us deregulation of the financial industry and almost sunk our entire economy and unlike President Obama she does not have to see her hair going grey. Things always work out for the Clintons and we the American people lose again.
"OK, Barak: I'm gonna go out there and deliver one more LIE,about how a dollar taken from the private sector by the government results in a 4x muliplier when the gummint gets through with it.
THEN I'm resigning. THEN I'm putting a pistol in my mouth. How could I have been so STUPID as to have believed you?
Now is as good a time to "bail" as any, right Christina? "Save face" and all right? LOL!
"Romer, an economics professor at the University of California (Berkeley) ...".
California is bankrupt and Obama used it as a model for the US and it's working.
The US is expected to be bankrupt by 2020!
And Americans remain quiet except for a small group of tea party activists.
This should be food for thought ..
"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence".
From bondage to spiritual faith
From spiritual faith to great courage
From courage to liberty
From liberty to abundance
From abundance to complacency
From complacency to apathy
From apathy to dependence
From dependence back again into bondage.
America appears to be at, "From apathy to dependence".
Michael
Mr. President,
Larry Summers has to go. His twisted and dysfunctional need to access power is screwing the administration's economic policies. It's the last straw if Romer leaves. Look art what Summers did to the venerable Paul Volker. It's no longer enough for you to chastise him. He does not listen. So what if he comes from a family of economists. HE has NOOOOOOOOO people skills. He is carrying out HIS agenda, not yours!
N.B. It amazes me the amount of bad English grammar )not merely typos) in these blogs. It shows the lack of quality education Americans think they had.
All I can say is, I'm sad to see my country go down, but happy to see my salary GO UP! And UP and UP and UP, consistently, with democrats in power.
Let me clarify. I live in Japan and am relying on democrats to keep screwing up the American economy which drives the value of the dollar down.
Check the exchange rate lately? As of today it's 85 Yen to the U.S. Dollar. That means my income just went up another 25% since last month, and since Obama took office a 40% increase!
So, I say, if people are going to be foolish and trust these democrats with their money, their health, their government, so bet it. VOTE DEMOCRAT! and keeping making me richer! But safely away from America's increasingly shaky shores.
ACORN doesnt have to worry though http://hotair.com/archives/2010/08/05/doj-redirecting-damage-awards-to-favored-groups/
As others have said example#35,326 of :if Bush did this..."
@ MicheleMoore-Happy1 ... Sp Paul Krugman would be better? He wants more govt spending and bailouts. Look where the 1st trillion got us to: 9.5% unemployment with only govt jobs being added. Until we go back to original American economic policies, we won't see our economy turn around until the GOP takes back the House or Senate. This will force Obama to be bi-partisan. Remember, when Clinton had a GOP House, the economy flourished...
A cowardly "anon" calls someone a 'right-wing troll'. YOU are the troll, loser.
Until we truly have free markets and a less burdensome tax code in the US, the economy will ALWAYS be messed up.
Ever wonder why NAFTA is over 600 pages long?
Ever wonder why the US sugar industry (way higher prices than the world average) receives massive support from the federal government (no matter whether the Hatfields or the McCoys are in power)?
Just to name a few.
In general nothing but pathetic left radical comments by left radical ideologues, who would be extremely miserable, had they to live in a left radical oppressive system they so hard work for and wish for. Here's the exit - no return.
Really? I heard there is an opening for "head look out person" on The Titanic also.
The left's response is the same when their policies fail - "more socialism". The more they their countries head in that direction, the worse they do as we are now witnessing. Venezuela, Zimbabwe, North Korea became more and more oppressive as their economies and societies deteriorate under leftist oppression. The same will be true in U.S. if the country is forced further left by the Democrats.
Obama is Bush times 10!! Why can't progressives see that. All of Obama's policies help the big guy and screw the small business. All regulation does is make it harder for the little guy to compete! The big guy can afford a team of lawyers. More democrats means more monopolys and more serfdom for the people. But I forget Democrats love authoritarian government , with the people living existing to serve big brother. That is what libertarian/conservatism is about--power to the people. Progressives are in love with Big Brother, and progressives despise individual freedom!
To clarify: libertarians and conservatives believe in constitutional restraints on the power of government. Progressives believe in government without limits, and if individual freedom is eliminated it is for the greater good.
kShe is just not a Jonsey Coolaid gal........for sure the King is wearing clothes.....the wanted him and then got him............still day in and day out I cannot find one person who will admit that they voted for him
What's the point in even having an economic advisor? The current adminstration will only do things that agree with their political philosophy anyway. If they were to listen to legitimate economics advisors without political bias we'd be much better off.
Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?
anon | August 5, 2010 6:49 PM
Funny how democratics forget how long we rode the supply-side theory. President Clinton benefited from it? 20 years of good times. This socialism isn't working. Watch us fail, just like every other nation that has used it. I guess, once again the mighty democratics think they have a NEW improved Socialism that the mighty USA can make work.
Who is John Galt??
The whole team was and continues to be inadequate for the problem - which means the person at the top was and is the same. Inadequate in terms of economic philosophy and basic honesty.
As for Krugman, he would fit in with Obama's basic style - IDEOLOGUE. I define same as someone who has the same answer for every problem/situation. Have any of you ever heard Krugman offer any answer that would not increase the involvement of government in solving economic problems?
As for his being correct in warning about the problems we have encountered, I say even a broken clock is right twice a day (except if you are on 24-hour time, then only once a day).
CFOE
For god sake, please remove Larry Summers. Nobody on earth believe he nows anything. He doesn't do anything that helps the economy and the common man. Romer isn't able to make a signal decision to improve employment. Why is Summers still around. It shows you how tone deaf Obama is.
To JCS who said "It is clear to many of us that the actions by the administration have not been enough."
.............are you looking for more spending and selling our country to China? We sure know how to help the economy in other countries. We just borrow more money on the backs of our kids and send Michelle Obama on a spending spree in Spain on Air Force 2. How many guests and how many rooms? The room at that 5 Star hotel can are very pricey upwards to $2500;/night.
Krugman? LDALOL - Laugh derisively and long out loud.
You have got to be kidding . . .
http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/08/paul_krugman_gives_up_1.html
I'd love to hear what Romer's economic theories are. I've heard a lot about Krugman and Summers. Both, I think, are whistling in the dark. Someone please enlighten me about Romer's economic philosophy, even though that now seems moot. I've heard Obama say that Roosevelt didn't spend enough to get us out of the Great Depression. Who's boner idea was that? 'Emails welcome abclarke@frontiernet.net
There is certainly nothing wrong with her math skills. She just doesn't have the right anatomy to join the boy's club.
i would think that if anyone in this administration wanted to resign they would at least blame them for something first.
Anyone looking at Christina Romer’s record can see that she is an interventionist and an advocate of bigger government. Economics professor form UC Berkley…who’d of thought right? She had a big part in the $860 billion stimulus, strongly advocated more spending to stimulate the economy and was a huge proponent of Obama’s budget busting policies. I think the real reason she left is because she was a huge proponent of big spending at a time when it is politically unpopular. People like Romer are one of the reasons why our national debt has gone from 9 trillion to over 13 trillion in just two years! I’m sure Obama will tap another MIT/Princeton/Berkley Ivy Leaguer elite (probably form New York or California) to replace this statist, but as far as I’m concerned good riddance. America did not become the most productive and opportune country in the history of the world because we followed the failed policies of socialism. Working out great for Venezuela right now huh…can you say 30% inflation? You can’t just keep spending more than you make and taxing your fellow Americans into oblivion and expect nothing bad is going to happen. I am an American, a capitalist and a conservative. I will be heard in November.
You can't fix this problem unless you return all the fu*** money you mother****** took in the mortgage game. But that ain't going to happen. So what do you do? You suffer!!!
*13 trillion in debt
*200 billion in interest
*14 million illegals undercutting you in the labor market wage-wise.
*Jobs outsourced while ancient debt has been grandfathered in onto a newly depreciated labor market.
*You spend 300 billion a year on dope. Damn! You could use that money for something more constructive than getting high. I'm just saying. And you don't even know if the dope you use hasn't been laced with biological agents.
Go back to Europe. Go back to africa and toss the keys to the natives. You had your run and it has ended unceremoniously
I don't understand. Why not hang around and take credit for the utopia that all of her like-minded liberal economists are creating.
WHO IS GLENN BECK?
Anyone who states that supply-side economics is bunk or that Free Market Capitalism doesn't work is so far out of touch with reality that I understand how they could have voted for Obama.
To those people: Stick to latte-sipping and protest sign-making. Economics is not your thing.
We could try going back to the tax cuts Bush Republicans put in place to fix the economy.
Oh wait . .. those tax cuts were in place when the national debt doubled and the economy crashed.
And they're still in place now doing a dynamite job of lowering the deficit and creating employment.
Any other brilliant ideas Republicans? Any at all?
More Krugman Krazy here: http://www.krugmanwatch.com
Once Americans realize the president has very little control over economic growth, presidents will stop pretending they do. Wanna create jobs, Barack? Stop taxing and regulating small businesses to death!!
And they keep giving more Billions to Mae and Mac,who got this whole mess started in the first place.
Face it,when the meltdown of 08 happened, the dems wouldve been screaming bloody murder and holding hearings immediately about what caused the meltdown...if they knew they could blame Bush and the Republicans. But ,alas, any true hearings would lead back to Mae/Mac>Barney Frank>Chris Dodd>Sub Prime Mortgages>ACORN>a young lawyer for ACORN named Barack>Past Dem policies, etc, etc.
Hopefully, when the 'Pubs at least take the House, they immediately have these hearings and let the chips fall where they may.

President Obama has not raised taxes on small businesses, nor has he put in place any stringent regulations.
In fact there were many billions of dollars of tax relief in the ARRA and more tax relief for small businesses in the bill sitting before Congress.
Paleta, the housing bust created this recession! Sucks when facts get in the way of Democrat propaganda, doesn't it?
How will higher taxes create jobs, exactly?
It's clear her position in the administration is worth as much as one of the "Czar" positions this and past administrations have had. She was probably unaware that she wasn't going to have a direct link to the president. She has realized she is being sent out to do press releases that have talking points for her to follow just like Robert Gibbs. He also has no direct say in what the president could or should do but he knew that going in. So, really, it doesn't matter if a brilliant person replaces her or not. They too will have no direct link to the president. Which really sucks. She's a patsy. I love her more for pulling out like this and telling the truth about it. I'm true blue but not ignorant. This is going to take awhile to fix and it's clear the best minds aren't being listened to. But, thank the gods it's not McCain trying to sort this all out!

Bush and the Republicans played a key role in putting mortgages in the hands of people who could not affort them.
Date: Monday, July 1 2002
President Bush announced an Administration effort to increase home ownership rates among African Americans and Hispanics by 5.5 million by 2010.
The plan would provide down payment
assistance to 40,000 minority homebuyers each year . . . Bush's plan would be closely tied to some $440 million in minority loan programs offered by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. President Bush commended Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's efforts . . .
So long as BHO is in charge, it doesn't matter who chairs the council. It's Obama's ideology, Stupid.
Paleta, small businesses will be hit hard by the 250k tax hike. They will also have to dump increasingly more expensive health care plans thanks to Obamacare or higher fewer workers.
Taxes fuel the Left's agenda. Give freedom a chance, won'tl you?

The reckless spending was done under the last administration when they doubled the national debt and left the country in economic collapse. The spending being done now is emergency funding to get the country through the mess left after Bush.
If Bush had paid for the 2 wars, the seniors drug program and the tax cuts we wouldn't be in this mess.
The Obama administration has deported more illegal immigrants than Bush, put more money into border control than Bush and put more people on the border. More dead immigrants are being found because their are more patrols.
Face it, more illegal immigrants entered the country under the Bush Republicans than under any other president. So much for the Republicans approach.

Name calling isn't a discussion or an argument Gary.
Americans hired an inexperienced man who had never balanced a budget or ran an organization as the top decision maker and now people wonder why 'nothing that BO has tried has not worked' LOL! Welcome to earth Obamanites and please vote for him again so that your friends and family can take all the time they need to 'get it'.
Wanjiru Chiru | August 6, 2010 3:47 AM
All Republicans have is attack. They don't have any policies or ideas on how to fix the mess they made Waniru. Their BIG policy - tax cuts are still in effect, and they were in effect as the national debt doubled and the economy crashed on Bush's watch.
Also, you apparently don't understand the role played by a CEO.
No one denies Bush f-ed up on spending and the border.
But now both are reaching critical mass, and there was absolutely no reason to add trillions to the debt for BS stimulus crap,or to sue Arizona.
Everyone knows the Dems want to give amnesty to all illegals because most will vote Dem for more handouts.
Ghengis Tinkles | August 6, 2010 3:54 AM
The Republicans messed up under Bush on spending, the deficit, the economy and the border.
And they now have no policies or approach to offer - only attacks on the Democrats.
What policies do the Republicans offer?

had the best comment on this thread.
How many times must you hear it?Cut spending and shrink government.
Obama is growing the fed government like its on steroids.Stop government intervention in the markets..Mae/Mac have been an absolute disaster.Let companies that fail, fail.
Maybe youve heard about this tea party movement.Check it out ,and ignore what the MFM tell you it is.
We are sick of the RINO's whohave gone along with all these disasters.
No ones giving the 'Pubs a rubber stamp, but even Mccain wouldnt have gone crazy like Obama has.
Ghengis Tinkles | August 6, 2010 4:10 AM
Cut spending where and how much? Anybody can say 'cut spending' but where exactly and how much?
Also, that's exactly what the Republicans promised last time they came into office under Bush. They GREW government and overspent. So their 'policies' are hogwash.
The BP gulf oil spill made it very clear government regulations are very much needed. That one oil spill cost as much as all the money put into saving the American auto industry by the Obama administration.
Just cutting back to 08 levels would be a start.
For all the f*ups the 'Pubs did the last year they cotrolled the purse strings the deficit was under 200 billion. Now its what?1.5 trillion?3 years of a dem congress and 1.5 years of a dem president have been an absolute disaster.
And yes SANE govt regulations are needed, but thats the key word ..sane.And maybe if existing government regs would allow us to drill more on land(ANWAR for one) and in shallow waters, maybe the oil companies wouldnt have to go down thru 2 miles of water just to reach a well.Thats what i mean by SANE.
this had to happen since he was out of the eligiblity criterion
The plan would provide down payment
assistance to 40,000 minority homebuyers each year

i reach my end after voting for Democrats 50 years, their economic theories are bunk. We need a peoples party to pull us back from the brink.
Now lets see what happens next
It's a good start...
Replace her with Ben Stein...
Another right wing troll.
Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?

Socialism?Communism has FAILED in each and every place it has been tried, while capitalism has made America the wealthiest (still and by far) nation in this worlds history.
The only reason Europe is even still barely solvent is because the Socialist model they have embraced so long has elements of capitalism in it to mitigate the guaranteed destruction the Socialist system promises.
The poor, poor Lemmings who blindly follow their so called :leaders" apparently never understood what Margaret Thatcher was saying when she explained the Left Socialist economic system by saying. 'It works fine until you run out of other peoples money"
And so as we have seen in Europe, it has happened. Spain, Greece, Portugal, all insolvent, the vaunted NHS in tatters as people wait years for an operation, if they can get it at all and taxes pushed ever higher, forcing more and more people to simply pack up and leave which further shrinks the tax base and causes taxes to be raised even higher to make up the difference.
Today while the failed US president tries to turn America toward the failure of a Socialist economy we see Europe waking up and itself getting back to what has proved to work so well in the past, Capitalism.
People working hard and becoming all they can be and being REWARDED based on their own achievements and being held responsible for their own actions in the workplace which would make them less than successful. It's called accountability, imagine that? No more 2 months of paid vacation. no more FREE anything, if you want something, you PAY for it with YOUR OWN CASH not with mine or someone else's who happens to have more because they work harder, or are smarter.
The Socialist gravy train has jumped the tracks and there is no rail tender to put it right. The ride is over and your pain has only begun.
Apparently, Romer can see November from her front porch. With the cascading effect of mass layoffs due to the Moratorium on Offshore Drilling combined with the layoffs of Oil Spill personnel due to the end of operations, Obama & Co. are looking at a return to double digit Unemployment numbers despite the stealthy accounting method his Administration used to remove all those now receiving 99 month extended benefits off the Unemployment rolls. Throw in $4/Gallon Gasoline as the Drilling Moratorium drives the price of petroleum over $100/Bbl. and it truly sucks to be them........
Some people need to go to jail for outright fraud or criminal negligence at the very least.Yet this administration is determined to keep the sub-prime gravy train rolling full speed ahead.

The government's "pretend" jobless rate (U3) is about 10%, while the true jobless rate is about 20%.
The White House must chuckle, however, over their ability to get news media to reliably report the U3 number.
We need a heavy weight? I think she was a "heavy weight!"
The blame Bush lie is getting thin. Remember that in 2006, the Democrat-Socialist Party took control. They tried to force their "everyone should own a house, even if they don't have a job" plan through, and Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, & Chris Dodd, with Senator Obamas support triggerred a worldwide economic bubble. Govt is a necessary evil and should be limited sharply. Free economy built this Countty and in 60 short years a "progressive" govt has swallowed and destroyed it. Revolution and overthrow or a break up may be the only way out.
Ms Romer is sick of the Obama trying to claim victory for a failed auto industry that lost 300,000 jobs under his orders by giving them 75 Billion$$ instead of saving all the jobs by letting them go bankrupt legally & allowing GM & chrysler to lower wages to save the companies, instead we have morons making $70,000 a year building crap no one wants once again, like the stupid VOLT That only goes 40 miles on a charge, OHH yea thats great!
Good riddance. Now for the rest of the crew. Problem is, the group waiting in the wings is no better. Demopublicans or Republicrats, all of them are interested in keeping and/or increasing their power, not doing what makes the country better off.
Some things which seem to me to be true:
1) If you make something more expensive, for instance by taxing it, you get less of it. This administration has been making job creation in the private sector more expensive, in particular by its health care legislation. This will move more jobs offshore.
2) If you make something less expensive, for instance by subsidizing it, you will get more of it. This administration has been subsidizing public sector employment.
3) Most consumer goods are not produced in the USA. A tax on consumer goods to pay for Social Security, Medicare, health insurance and unemployment insurance, rather than on salary, would reduce the cost of employing people in the USA.
4) Wealth is mostly untaxed, except for such things like real property, and then it is taxed at the local level. Most of the wealth of massively wealthy people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet is acquired in form of stock, and this is untaxed until it is sold or the owner dies. A tax on net worth in excess of some number - say, $5,000,000 - would generate a lot of new money.
Funny. The left got everything it wanted and when their old, discredited solutions failed (again), they complain about a lack of true believers.
The current low-employment economy is a permanent feature in all countries that have gone down this way.
The corporatist-socialist clique currently in power was elected by naive liberals. The result was predicted by conservatives and we were right (again). Free markets are the very opposite of corporatism. Supply-side economics worked pretty well these past decades, whether you realize it or not.
The "failure" of supply side is simple... one had to actually work to benefit. Once "work" was part of the equation for success.
No economist, including Krugman, will be able to sell Saul Alinsky's socialism to the American people.
Gee, I didn't know this administration had an economist.
Liberal Fascism. When Obama solidifies his National Socialist (Nazi) style dictatorship, she will be sorry she left. Anyone on his enemies list will be "eliminated" or sent for reeducation. Marxism and Keynesian economics have be proven to fail over and over, but the "elite" "intellectuals" turn to those principles during any crisis, rather than letting natural forces in economics correct any swing in production, output and pricing. The Fed is not without fault. Neither are Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac which demanded bad loans be made to poor, lazy, non-working people. The architects of this debacle, Christopher Dodd and Barney Frank cannot go unmentioned, since Obama and those two are very tight in their worship of a communist style socialism, but only for those of us "little people". The elite and wealthy get to keep their money and take lots of vacations. The corruption and the treason going on in Washington is something the professor was wise to leave behind, even though it is at her own risk
Democrats are all child molesters.
Is she going to prison? Along with all the other Zerobama cohorts?
I mean, UC Berkeley? They should put a chain fence around that place and force vaccinate them ALL.
Why doesn't Larry Summers take the fall?
Because that is what Gentiles are for.
Same ol song and dance.
Progressive politics is sinking the ship you ignorant fools. The economy is foundering under the weight of YOUR programs, what amazing ignorance of the real world...Summers is the worst of the lot though. What has he run that he hasn't destroyed? Ask the african nations he thru under the bus...
Working Families Party... Just more Marxists in populist clothing. Hail Labor.
The Working Families Party (WFP) is a minor political party in the United States founded in New York in 1998. There are "sister" parties to the New York WFP in Connecticut, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Delaware, Vermont and Oregon, but there is as yet no national WFP. It seems likely that the state WFPs will form a federation of sorts before 2012, but nothing definitive has been announced.
New York's Working Families Party was first organized in 1998 by a coalition of labor unions, ACORN and other community organizations, members of the now-inactive national New Party, and a variety of public interest groups such as Citizen Action of New York. The party blends a culture of political organizing with unionism, 1960s idealism, and tactical pragmatism. The party's main issue concerns are jobs, health care, education and energy/environment. It has usually cross-endorsed Democratic or Republican candidates through fusion voting, but has occasionally run its own candidates.
In the 1998 election for governor of New York, the party cross-endorsed the Democratic Party candidate, Peter Vallone. Because he received more than 50,000 votes on the WFP line, the party gained an automatic ballot line for the succeeding four years.[1] In 2000, Patricia Eddington of the WFP was elected to the New York State Assembly. In the 2002 election, the Liberal Party, running Andrew Cuomo (who had withdrawn from the Democratic primary), and the Green Party, running academic Stanley Aronowitz, failed to reach that threshold and lost the ballot lines they had previously won. This left the WFP as the only left-progressive minor party with a ballot line. This situation will continue until at least 2011 following the party's cross-endorsement of Eliot Spitzer in the 2006 election, in which he received more than 155,000 votes on the Working Families Party line, more than three times the required 50,000. The Working Families Party endorsed Senator Barack Obama (D-Illinois) in the 2008 presidential election.[2]
As of 2006, the executive director of the WFP is Dan Cantor. The party's Co-Chairs are Sam Williams, UAW Region 9 CAP director; Bertha Lewis, ACORN's executive director; and Bob Master of the Communications Workers of America. The WFP also has a powerful alliance with Dennis Rivera and Local 1199/SEIU (Service Employees International Union). The intensely activist union is known to contribute more than $100,000 a year of the party's $1.4 million annual budget.
From the Wiki.
Well, I am not a kool-aid drinker like a lot of you are here. This is really only a matter of common sense. The big problem with our economy is not capitalism--Capitalism is great! It has lifted people out of poverty for decades. It pains me to see educated persons fall prey to pressures of business and politicians.
1. Cut the size of Government---drastically
2. Stop bailing out companies--if they fail...THEY FAIL. Government was never intended to be a safety net for them.
3. Cut out SS, that's right, phase it out completely. Let the schools teach, savings and investing and how to fund your retirement. Train kids from early on and when they realize the government is not going to be there for them later in life, they will get it.
4. Cut taxes--and make taxes affect everyone. This is the key to make our country great again. If everyone is paying taxes, EVERYONE who is working and even those on government assistance, if they see their money going to stupid projects and lining pockets of politicians, they will vote more smartly.
5. Term limits for everyone in office.
6. Get rid of Obamacare, a sham of a program, I mean really the guy is doing infomercials to
to promote a program he has never read! Really, think about that. Let's say you buy a house or a car or any big purchase and you just sign onto the contract, etc. That would be a very dumb thing to do...yes? How can a President stump for something he doesn't understand? Ridiculous...our country is being torn apart and people are being divided so we can be conquered.
7. Give the power back to the states...along with the money.
Wake up...Government cannot save us, even if they wanted. They only want us dumb and oblivious to what they are doing...Wake up.
These are just some things, but we are not currently what our founding fathers envisioned and any Democrat or Liberal who even entertains the idea that we are is so far out of touch with reality, that there is no hope. We are quickly becoming Europe at the very same time they are backing away from Socialist ideas...pretty funny actually.
She has done such a grand job as an economic adviser. I saw a cartoon from the Chicago Tribune dated from about 1939 and it shows exactly what she and Obama are doing to this country. History has a way of turning around and biting you in the butt unless you learn from it.
Larry Summers definitely needs to go. We need someone like Gerald Celente advising the President on economic issues. The Keynesian approach has run us to the edge of the cliff and will run us over it if some common sense and reality isn't put into practice and policy soon. The present policies have been very good to the economy inside of the Beltway and on Wall Street, but not for the vast majority of Americans, as was also the case during President Bush's administration. The establishment is only concerned with itself and not the well-being of the majority.
There is nothing "progressive" about driving the economy to failure. As bad as things are, Fannie & Freddie still are not under control and that is because Obama himself fought tighter controls on them while he was a senator.
The expectation that the tax cuts are going away in January is further declining the marketplace. Everyone (that's "everyone") will get a tax increase in January when the Bush cuts for "everyone" expire.
This entire administration has failed at every turn. They are all progressive, "progressive failures" that is.
Another Acadumbic fails and slithers back to Tenureville.
Our sockpuppet scuzwad President would be better served if his "experts" were pulled from the street. Get someone who has to run a small businees while being suffocated by Washington instead of these wonkscum.
Resign now Obama! at least we can laugh at Biden while we collapse.
By the way Barry, scared about the Russkies keeping the wheat crop off the market? Thank God the Arugula crop is safe!
Only Advisors with self-respect and a valued reputation will be leaving this Administration... there will be few.
Obama is the ultimate progressive. He is socializing a Capitalist country by force. The economy whent into convultions when he got nominated in June 08, and hasnt recoverd since.
He is the grim reaper of the American Experiment.
So my 12 year old Son asks!"Dad? Is PROGRESSIVE the same as Communist?"
Smart Kid!
Now that she has destroyed the economy, she can move on.
what does one expect from a Marxist maggot who likes islamo terrorists, commies and leftist jews running the supreme court.
Good riddance. Christina Romer was just to the left of Lenin.
"i reach my end after voting for Democrats 50 years, their economic theories are bunk. We need a peoples party to pull us back from the brink."
Another right wing troll.
Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?
Have you seen the platform for the party this person is talking about? Hardly what anyone would consider "right wing" ... unless you believe that whatever is not in line with the democrats is automatically right-wing.
How many college professors have run a pay roll?
Though I agree that Wall Street needs more regulation, having college professors set policy for the operation our finanical system seems no more wise to me than letting the Wall Street tigers do so.
Regardless of which party you like, why the clamor to punish tigers for being tigers insted of cries to punish the zookeepers who took down the fences that control these vicious predators. Congress is who makes the banking and finance rules - why are none of them in jail or under investigation?????
Citizens of any party affiliation - WAKE UP
She discovered it takes more than a blue dress to do the job
Today is my last day of work....I am being laid off from a company that had been around for over a century. Most of the jobs have gone overseas and the others went to states with lower tax rates. The unemployment rate in my state is 12% so I won't be getting a well-paying job real soon. Some service sector job will probably give me a $35k paycut and no benefits.
I will not vote for Obama or any Democrat for any office. It's time to get back to limited federal power and end the trend towards socialism. This country is getting bankrupted by the Oblivious Oblama (blame Bush all the time) team....the members are irrelevant because they're all going in the wrong direction no matter how you look at it.
No big loss. Ms. happy face who would stare into the camera every day and tell us how wonderful everything was and how it was getting better. I guess she has a guaranteed return to work at academia where she can write a book and be fawned over by her liberal colleagues. At least now, she has creds that for a while she actually "worked for a living" though she didn't produce a damned thing.
Thank God Karl Marx is unavailable to replace her, or Barack Obama would insist on it. Then, out country's national anthem would be "Whining to Utopia".
Christina Romer was a suck-up from the day of her appointment. The Obama spend spend spend policies have made no sense if you really wanted a recovery.
What a mess at the top.
"i reach my end after voting for Democrats 50 years, their economic theories are bunk. We need a peoples party to pull us back from the brink."

UM, HEY ANON, you do realize that the people's party is a LEFT wing socialist/communist party or are you that ignorant?
Karl Marx got it right when he refered to the American Socialist as usful idiots, actually he ment Democrats!
The sad thing? Romer has more of a clue about the economy than the other Obama economic advisers put together. I think there's more to this than her simply being frustrated with her lack of a direct line to the President. I honestly think she's seen what Obama's economic policies will do and has tried warning him not to pull the trigger on his ideas to no avail. Now, Obama's economic team is nothing but benchwarmers.
As far as Paul Krugman is concerned, he's not nearly as brilliant as the Left make him out to be. He may be able to wow the Left, but those of us who understand economics at more than a rudimentary level see through Krugman and laugh. He's as much of an economist as Keith Olbermann is a journalist.
Which means Krugman will be on Obama's short list to replace Romer.
I never thought I'd see the day that I wished we had Jimmy Carter back as President. At the rate we are going there is going to be nothing left...
She left because her Communist Workers Green Card had expired.
Why would she stick around -- She has accomplished the damage that she set out to do.
The Obama progressives know exactly what they are doing. Spend-spend-spend followed by higher taxes (fees) work for recovery? Don't expect them to replace Romer with anyone who really could restore the economy. It's not in their game plan.
Obama's economic policy is falling apart. Obama and his Democratic gangster are simply robbing money from mid-income workers like me and give it to lazy bones...
The entire administration is inept !
PC appt.- Next
She just one idiot on a dysfunctional team of morons...not much of a distinction among the whole group. How's that "hope and change" workin' for you people who were ignorant enough to fall for this Joker and his policies.
What a joke. Now she is considered a possible candidate for president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Another high government official going through the revolving door into the private world and into the Fed none the less! We as a nation are being sold out by our politicians. Obama is turning out to be worse than I thought he would be. He isn't doing much right and is not bringing good change, only bad change!!!!!!!!!
America is paying for electing this president that had 0 experience. Only 7% of his administration has any real world business experience. The rest are acadamia, theorists. They have failed America.
Christine Romer is actually a very good Economist. One of the brightest I have ever studied and heard. She is actually a very smart woman and the only person in that Administration who I had any respect for.
As far as I am concerned,0you can just KEEP the CHANGE thank you!
"Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?"
If you want to see bunk economics, just look to the current administration. You can whine about right wing trolls all you want, but ignoring reality isn't going to do you a lot of good.
You got what you wanted. You got a Democrat president with a Democrat supermajority. And they screwed it up. You chose extremely poorly. Deal with it.
Always entertaining to read the posts here. Early on we have someone mention they have been frustrated after voting for democrats for 50 years. HELLO. The results of those votes are in evidence in our cities across the country. They are monuments to the poor with inefficient governments that can't educate our children.
But of course Barbara doesn't see things that way. She figures that the problem with the democrats is that they haven't been socialist enough, so she is joining the Workers Family Party. Way to go hon...let us know how that works out for you. Want a preview? Check out East Germany circa 1986.
Then there is the luminary that says Obama's economic policies aren't bunk, it is supply side economics that is bunk. Way to go dude. I bet you work for some poor person right? We all know that it is the poor that create all the wealth in the world.
Want to know what's wrong with the economy? It's taxes that are too complicated and too high. It is a system that exempts nearly 50% of the population. Regulations are too onerous and ill-conceived (refi an mortgage lately check out the reforms put in place there). We need some regulation, but government can not replace common sense. Give businesses and investor the impression that these things are improving and the economy will roar back to life. Give them the impression that taxes will be high, regulation MORE onerous and you sap the life right out of the system.
What do you expect with this administration,
they fail at just about everything by continuing to push agendas against the will of the American people.
-Healthcare "reform" that the majority didn't agree with.
-Foreign apology tours that the majority didn't agree with.
-Taxation that the majority didn't agree with.
-Spending that the majority didn't agreee with.
"heckofa job Obama"
keep hiring the "Harvard educated" wonderkind.
bunch of hacks with no real world experience in building jobs and prosperity.
Thanks Democrats and Liberals for taking a cyclical downturn and driving us over a cliff.
November can't come soon enough!
The sooner people realize that obama is an abject Socialist idiot and liberals are subversives that need to be deported to Kenya, the sooner people will wake up.
KRUGMAN for Gods sake???? LMAO!!! Idiots like you ARE THE PROBLEM!!
Is anyone here truly surprised at this? At this point I ask why even have economists? Every single headline regarding the economy includes the phrase "unexpectedly" or "suprisingly" or "dramatically". I guess that's what you get when your economists are ACADEMICS only with no idea how the real world actually runs. Look at Geithner - never held a non-gov't job in his life. What does he know about how things work? He couldn't even use "TaxCut" to complete his income tax returns. Oh, that's right, NOT paying taxes is a resume-builder for the Left, just like adultery and government-as-god worship.
Any person who took a job under this President, a President that claimed on video and tape that the US Constitution was flawed because it did not give him enough power over We the People, who also publically dedicated one of his books to and idolized Sal Alinski, a Marxist, who believes in every fiber of his uneducated econmics bones that taking money from those who worked hard to earn the salaries they struggled to earn and just giving it to the thugs we all saw in high school who bullied others, partied, drinking and drugs through high school, failed out or quit school and now are unemployed, yet possess TV's airconditioning, cell phones....whoever signed up to go with this clown...deserves to get a pink slip...Romer should be ashamed to call herself a professor of economics, clearly her policies failed, she is an utter failure...and of course now she wants to abscond responsibility...typical liberal dunce. January 21, 2013!
It doesn't matter who stays or who leaves. The shots are being called by a Marxist who doesn't believe in capitalism. What else can we expect when we see him implement his policies?
lol, yeah Krugman,
these liberals just adore their "nobel prize winning" idiot savants.
Jesus Christ, the Nobel Prize committee is a Political Arm of Western European quasi-socialism now.
But Liberal American dupes actually think that this honor bestows some sort of superhuman prescience on the honoree. Amazing.
...and Krugman, this economic traveling-
gnome-like leftist chimp has nothing but partisan prescriptions for the economy. He finally admitted that we're in deep doo doo and a possible depression. His recommendation? why spending more of course to devalue ourselves into prosperity. Yeah, that made a lot of sense as we see how well it worked out for the old USSR and Japan more recently.
Goodbye to Mrs. Garrett's little sister, good for her, she's not spouting the "lie" anymore
Just another academic who lives their life in theories and not reality. She never held a position in business yet she is advising on how to grow jobs and grow the world's largest economy.
Wake up President Daddywarbucks...business/economic academics are in academia for a reason.
Well after reading these comments it appears all is not so quiet of the progressive front. Hillary was your real salvation? What a fantasy. The left/right paradigm is function of division. There is only one real government in the US. It is the shadow government of the CFR. The unelected people, the secret society that JFK warned us of and got killed for confronting.
Why do you think Obama kept most of them Bush babies on board? The Gates et al. He's a centrist? It's just a dog and pony show for the dumbed down masses. Whats your favorite flavor of propaganda? CNN or Fox?
The New World Order is running the show. It doesn't matter who the front man is. Obama was groomed for his job as their salesman. Thats all he is. He is selling us down the river just like Bush-Clinton-Bush did for 20 years. He'll make millions from his investment in BP. Vanguard sold his oil stocks before the Deepwater Transocean disaster but they bought more BP green stock. Their's your real global warming theory. It's all about profit.
Wake up folks. We've been betrayed. We can vote them out if everybody will wake up.. Keynesian economic policies are a complete failure. We need a real free market, not a socialist centrally planned progressive commie plan. Not a corporate domination by Rockefeller monopolies. We are a government of the corporation, by the corporations and for the corporations.
Obama's taking on the corporations? What a joke. He is their guy, bought and paid for. Oh he'll put on a good show, He's going to "kick some ass." The only ass he's kicking is the middle class. BP is running the US right now. They do what they want.
Volker is the solution? Dude you need a reality check. The guy is the New World Order. The FED is the most corrupt private banking corporation ever foisted on the American people. They more than anyone are responsible for our economic mess. They make billions of our debt.
Obama's centrist policies? Dude you read way to much propaganda….. Van Jones will save us? Thats just funny.
Which political mafia family is running the show and in power? Right now its the Chicago crime syndicate. Before that it was the Bush crime family and before that it was Bubba crime. They are all criminals......
"HIllary would have saved us." That is just a progressive wet dream…. She's as big a criminal as her hubby, bubba.
Liberals, you people are pathetic!! It was Democraps that took us off the cliff starting in 2006 and drove us to 3 trillion in debt, 10% and soon higher in unemployed, socialistic tendancies (hello Marx!). On top of it, your code pinkos and other antiwar nutjobs havent succeeded in anything. Barry still has us at war, is alienating the US from allies, has the country in a race war (thank you Obumbler), cant handle an oil spill crisis. The list goes on. Bush may not have been able to read a teleprompter eloquently but at least he represented Capitalism. Romer was nothing but Barry's Beotch and kicked to the curb. Only intelligent thing she did was quit!!
There have been enough structural changes in the economy over the last 10 years that anyone sitting in an office with theories, even if those are fundamentally good ideas, won't necessarily know what's happening moment to moment, but that's how businesses & employers -and consumers - are forced to make decisions. The fact of the matter is that when a system of supply- an economy- begins assigning new values to its products -its product mix -suppliers refrain from supplying excess of what they make, and they don't hire to compete that way. The fundamental problem with the economy now is that it is difficult to see "leading indicator" industries for a recovery. I personally think in the long run medical equipment will emerge to fill this role. To provide clarity to this, business taxes must be lowered, because a dollar I have today from my productivity is better than one anyone else promises to give me tomorrow. The "stimulus" packages have been a matter of "leading a horse to water, but you can't make him drink". So take the reigns off the horses when they drink, your recovery will be under way.
First step to winning a war is to KNOW YOUR ENEMY!

I would have preferred for her to stay and Black Racist, Attorney General, Eric Holder go
Anyone with any ounce of integrity and intelligence would want to get off the Obama sinking ship.
Obama's disastrous decision of hiring Summers and Geithner - two individuals directly linked to being a part of creating this crisis and now making it worse.
Obama is a failed President and has left the U.S. more vulnerable to future financial crisis along with millions of Americans now living in poverty for the first time.
Time for more Goldman-Sachs employees.
It's great to see these lefties so upset with this regime, hahaha.
Progressives shouldn't even be allowed to run for office. They are all Marxists. That's right...a sweeping statement & I meant it. Time was when the Democratic Party was a true American party w/patriots who, even though disagreed w/their Republican couterparts, nevertheless wanted what was best for their country. The progressives have hijacked the party & live only to propel the state @ the expense of liberty.
The failed policies from at least three administrations have been largely responsible for the mess we're in. It takes many years to destroy a nation as powerful as ours. I think of the U.S. like a ship thats sinking while on board theres mutiny going on. Everyone is fighting and not trying to save themselves and the ship. If the ship sinks we all drown! The left/right, Dem./Rep., black/white, moslem/christian, mexican illegals/U.S citizens, issues are stirred up and we're presented with theatre by the propaganda media that are keeping the people on the sinking ship fighting with eachother so the ship will sink and THEY, the Elite bankers and corrupt politicians that caused the fighting and destruction to begin with will take the booty from the sunken ship, aka our destroyed country! Don't let them do it people! We are all Americans! Let's forget our differences, come together, stop fighting and SAVE OUR SHIP! The ship is pretty low in the water, we'd better hurry!
The democrat party in a nutshell. The following is an excerpt from a DTN article.
"The Shadow Party is the real power driving the Democrat machine. It is a network of radicals dedicated to transforming our constitutional republic into a socialist hive. The leader of these radicals is ... George Soros. He has essentially privatized the Democratic Party, bringing it under his personal control. The Shadow Party is the instrument through which he exerts that control.... It works by siphoning off hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign contributions that would have gone to the Democratic Party in normal times, and putting those contributions at the personal disposal of Mr. Soros. He then uses that money to buy influence and loyalty where he sees fit. In 2003, Soros set up a network of privately-owned groups which acts as a shadow or mirror image of the Party. It performs all the functions we would normally expect the real Democratic Party to perform, such as shaping the Party platform, fielding candidates, running campaigns, and so forth. However, it performs these functions under the private supervision of Mr. Soros and his associates. The Shadow Party derives its power from its ability to raise huge sums of money. By controlling the Democrat purse strings, the Shadow Party can make or break any Democrat candidate by deciding whether or not to fund him. During the 2004 election cycle, the Shadow Party raised more than $300 million for Democrat candidates, prompting one of its operatives, MoveOn PAC director Eli Pariser, to declare, 'Now it's our party. We bought it, we own it.…'"
Here is a fiscal policy that might help. Don't spend more than you earn. Most families that follow this policy do well. Maybe our government should try it.
The country would be better off to keep Romer and get rid of Obama, Geithner Summers etal. PEOPLE IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS EXPECT STREET FIGHTING TO BREAK OUT DURING THIS ADMINISTRATION.GLEN WHITTEN
Lets see - Does anyone remember that it was Bush and Hank Paulson who asked for a blank check to save the economy - a request written on one page and calling for absolutely no oversight - months before the election. McCain suspended his campaign to go back to Washington to save us. Remember?
So - Obama did not accurately predict to the penny just how much the Republicans stole and just how bad they messed things up - and Obama is at fault?
I know Fox told you that a majority of Americans agree with everything republican - but the truth is, 65% of Americans know and believe that it was the Republican policies of not paying for or even counting in the Budget the cost of two Wars and 830 Billion in tax cuts to 1% of the population that Bush's own economists admit have not and will not ever pay for themselves.
Do you seriously want to stand there and say that the economy was just fine 18 months ago and that only now, because of Obama, everything has fallen apart? Are you kidding.
Hey maybe she'll go on vacation with Michelle. That way she can waste more taxpayer money but this time without failed progressive marxist economic plans.
Looks like the rats are leaving a sinking ship.
To Scott: Blaming Bush still? Sorry all I am hearing is bwaaaaaaahh bwaaaah its all Bush's fault, even the poor decisions and massive spending that Obama is doing...Bwaaaaaah.
Bush was bad, Obama is worse. Bush spent a lot but Obama is spending like he's drunk.
But of course you will blame Bush for any and all mistakes Obama and his elitist pals make. Way to keep the blinders on.
The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design.
Hayek
And yet another propeller head on the Obama 'Jobless' Team bites the dust. Geeech I wonder why?
Every American company is scared to death to spend money (thus hiring) while this ridiculous spending spree continues. Companies want certainty and they will not hire until the spending stops.
Watch for a huge stock market rally the day after the election if the Republicans win either the house or the senate. If they take both it could be the biggest single day ever in the stock market.
Scott, after 9/11, the Bush team managed to get the economy back on course. He didn't get the chance to do it this time. So, Oblamer needs to take responsibility and stop whining. "It's all Bush's fault......waaaaaah!".
MicheleMoore-Happy1 wrote: "Paul Krugman would be a dynamite replacement and a good counter weight to Summers."
Yeah, but he'll have to get weekend passes from the mental institution first.
Then he can try to sell his snake oil Keynesian Krap as part of the Obama economic comedy team, rather than merely from its propaganda arm at the NY Slimes.
Can the two-party Kool Aid drinkers stop all the back and forth bickering over whose fault the economic mess is?
The answer is both parties share equal blame. The government has been spending more money than it makes, and wasting half of it, since we went to fiat currency 4 decades ago.
And it's hilarious that the Dems NEVER castigate Nixon for doing this - the one thing he did that REALLY REALLY was bad, bad, bad.
Who cares, this administration does not want to create jobs they've already made that clear! Let's see, a Liberal from Berkley who is an Economic adviser? That would be like putting OJ Simpson in charge of woman's rights all over America! Socialist do not want the economy to come back they want it to get worst so they can have complete control over the people!
Obama is practicing the same failed policies that Roosevelt practiced during the Great Depression.
We got out of the Great Depression because of World War II, not the failed policies of Roosevelt.
Based on history, Obama is going to need to start a war somewhere very soon.
Oh, face it, people: Obama is a conservative who ran as a Democrat only because he could not run as a Republican.
Summers was a complete failure in the business world and Romar is a (Berkley) Marxist as is her boss Obama.
What's happened to the people of this country?
30 years ago, I would NEVER have imagined that Americans would put up with this kind of garbage from politicians. Watergate was a watershed moment in politics - and it doesn't even amount to a flea on an elephant in comparison to the DAILY EVENTS I see on television now. Can anyone even count the number of scandals now that ought to be giving us heart attacks?
BIGGER stimulus? PAUL KRUGMAN? Really? If you people really want to transform this country into a socialist/Marxist utopia, why don't you come out and say it? Why all this subterfuge with crap hidden inside the thousand plus page bills? You don't come out and say it because you know the vast majority of the American people would recoil in horror.
If you guys are soooo much smarter than everyone else, how is it you can't do the math and figure out that at some point you run out of other people's money? You will cause a chasm of monumental proportions between the haves and have nots. Redistribution does not lift people up, it drives the producers down.
Unbelievable.......all smoke and mirrors even from the lower ranks.they try so hard to sell there B.S.
The whole group needs to go ... including "I guess he can't" Obama. You can't spend your way into prosperity. Give the proper tax breaks to the people that create the jobs - small business owners. I am glad Michelle is blowing a wad out in Spain while the gazillions of unemployed are back here trying to make ends meet.
A pig with lipstick is still a pig! It's about time this liar, and horrible person resigned. I only hope we investigate her and the others for criminal and gross negligence that they perpetrated against the American people.
Isn't it interesting that Obama has so many people on his staff that are linked to Cal Berkely, one of the biggest donors to his campaign in 08?
Krugman, please the guy is a total commie, oh wait he would fit in nicely.
If anyone thinks Paul Volcker is an economical whizz then you'd better take another look, this guy was instrumental in getting rid of the gold standard years ago. These people are only in the game for THEMSELVES no one else. All you people wanting socialism better re-think that as well because once you have it you wont like it. Not when it's YOU who will be footing the bill, not only for the big wigs but everyone else around you as well. Nothing will belong to you and you alone, it will all go into one big socialist pot to be disbursed among the masses. AND depending on what the masses bring in OR what the big wigs ALLOW you to have, is all you'll get.
Since most politicians can't explain what they are really up to without fear of being exiled, the statements they make have to be mostly false. When something they do is contrary to what they've said, they appear stupid or incompetent. Actions speak louder than words. Pay attention to the legislation politicians introduce and vote for. This will tell you much more about what they really believe.
She must be leaving because like she like feels that like, as a women, she like wasn't treated with like the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. that women like require (special respect).
"Wanna see bunk economics? Can you say 'supply-side'?"
Someone doesn't know their history.
Barney Frank and George Soros both know that this economic melt down happened because of he housing market meltdown and the dems voted down Bush's proposal to reform home financing. Obama says stimulus will increase job grown and Romer tried to call him to let him know, "not with your tax plan." Obama told us 8% by spring of 2010. Not happening. Romer warned him by email that your tax plan will stagnate job growth and the market. Obama is not listening Romer because of the truth, just like he didn't listen to the people about obamacare and illegal immigration and now the states like Missouri and Arizona are taking the matters into their own hands......Obama will be a lamb duck by November and George Soros will head back to what is becoming communist Russia again.
I do not understand the political left. The US grew from nothing into the most powerful country on earth using a model of lightly regulated capitalism. As government regulation has increased, the country itself has gradually declined. In 2008, the economy crashed largely due to a bubble in the real estate market caused by massive sub-prime loan portfolios, which were mandated by left wing federal government social engineering policies. Yet the left successfully blamed this crash on G.W. Bush, who made mistakes, but actually tried to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac well before the crash occurred. Had Democrats listened to the Bush Administration in the early 2000s, it is likely the crash would have been lessened significantly. Now, we have a situation where Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, two of the engineers of the fiasco in the first place, have authored the legislation that will supposedly prevent future such disasters! How can Americans sit back and accept this without a fight? How can the very people who screwed us all over, and pocketed millions in the process, be put in charge of cleaning the mess up? We are all fools and the leftists among us are the rulers of the asylum.
Obama has so many advisers that he is far removed from the agencies that he is responsible for running. What a hill to climb if you have bad news to report to the thinned skinned one.
"Oh, face it, people: Obama is a conservative who ran as a Democrat only because he could not run as a Republican."
LOL. Put down the hash pipe and step back from the edge. Obama is a convervative. Yeah, and Rush Limbaugh is Ralph Nader's protege'.
SWEETTTTTTTTTT! Another commie idiot leaves this regime! And so it starts, the crumbling of this skivvie stain's regime. THANK GOD!
BTW idiots, REAGAN WAS RIGHT!
This Left/Right bomb throwing has got to stop. This is Us against Them, "Them" being the Washington ruling elite. They are on BOTH sides of the aisle! Step back, take a breath and regain your perspective on what's really going on here. Both sides want us dependent on the gov't., people will vote for those that are feeding them. We all know there are far more "Jerry Springer" Americans out there more than willing to plop down on their plaid couch in the trailer park and wait for a check to show up on the 1st & 15th. Wake up! How long will you keep busting your a$$ at work if 75% or MORE of what you make gets redistributed to the extra chromosome/crazy check crowd?
Jon and Mikki,
You both sound like partisans - I'm a Republican and a realist. Bush and his neo-conservative policies created a huge deficit. During the 2000 campaign, Bush railed against Clinton's nation building in Bosnia. Then instead of finishing the wars in Iraq and Afghanstan and bringing our troops home, he allowed mission creep to drag us into nation building in both countries as our economy tanked.
Obama came into office needing to rein in spending, but accelerated it. Nothing will improve until voting Republicans wise up and nominate a real ficsal consevative for President - John McCain ran on a promise of continuing Bush's failed policies. If he had run as a fiscal conservative he might have won.
"They are on BOTH sides of the aisle!"
That is a fallacy. Sure, there are bad eggs on both sides of the aisle, but there is only one party that forced a national healthcare bill down the throats of Americans, against public opinion at that. There is only one party that was openly rooting for defeat in Iraq under GW Bush. The last time I checked, Bush gave us back a lot of money in the form of across the board tax cuts. I'm not rich and my taxes dropped by thousands every year. It was Bush who wanted to reform Social Security and allow us to own our own accounts. Only one party shot that idea down in pure demogogue fashion. I don't buy the "both parties do it" nonsense. Anyone who is paying even half attention knows that is not true.
Basic Keynesian economics: Aggregate Supply and Aggregate Demand- Keynesians think that AD is the key- create demand and the supply will follow. So Krugman and the Dems think free money to unemployed and the poor and increased government spending will stimulate the economy- "the best bang for the buck" as the admin likes to say. BUT, this ONLY works if AS is created domestically!! As it is now, most of the AD will be spent on foreign AS, so it only does our country harm by digging deeper and deeper in debt. Too many people blateher about Supply Side Economics, but really have no clue about what it actually is. Some helpful advice: turn off the TV and read a book!!
By the way, Romer is splitting because she advocates for Supply Side Economics.
Well, this is start. Let's hope this starts a full scale exodus ending with the king and Marie Antoinette (whenever she returns from vacation) being dumped on the deirerres.
Hope.
Whatever they are doing in dc, it isn't working and she knows it.
When O said that he didn't pay attention to the stock market #s, that they were sort of like a political poll...they go up and down, I knew we were in deep trouble. All the people (old people, small investors, people who have money in 401k's, pensioners, people who work for corporations, people with bank accounts...everybody) were in for a world of hurt because someone in charge clearly had no sense for how money and markets work. He doesn't seem to get that those market numbers mean real money to people who invest in our economy.
When Pelosi, on the news that the health care package was passing, said that it will be such a great world if artists, writers, etc., won't have to worry about having to keep a 'real job' in order to have health insurance, I knew things were really going in the tank, when someone passing laws thinks that it's ok to take money from someone who works in a 'real job' in order provide $ (in the form of health insurance) to someone that thinks supporting their art is more important than actually earning a living. (i have a child in this category, and i expect her to have a day job to support her art) Never mind that there is no market for the artist or writer when the economy is going down the tubes because of all the gov't mis-spending.
Ordinary, everyday, hardworking people beware. If you think you are a democrat because the people in power want to help you, run away as fast as you can. You exist to give them privilege.
Unions exist, you think, to make sure everybody gets a fair shake from 'business', but the truth is, the unions exist to benefit the relatively small number of people who belong to them. Unions cost businesses money so that businesses can't hire more people. Unions would rather have their members 'covered', than make sure that more people are employed. Unions consist mostly of democrats. Unions are all about power, not about the needs of the population in general.
If you think socialists are good because they want to share the wealth, you need to understand something. People who work, save their money, don't buy what they can't afford, don't buy on credit, and don't expect to get something for nothing (read conservative), they must be dupes, because socialists out there think that what these working people have should be theirs. Socialism is all about wanting something that someone else has...it's all about money.
Capitalism is not about money at all. It's about choice. If i want to risk my money to start a business, that's my choice and my risk. if it fails, then it's my fault. If i don't want to have a job and just want to be a hermit (or an artist), then that's my choice. In either case, the capitalist (conservative) puts into something what he/she wants to get out, and doesn't expect someone else to pick up the tab for his choice. If the result is something he likes, he continues along that path, if the result isn't good for him, either monetarily or in some other way, he chooses to do something else. Gov't programs/subsidies/ bailouts meddle with the choices, and it's bad for everybody.
if someone is making and selling boats, and i want one, i can buy it if i choose and if i can afford it. if it's too expensive, i won't. If the boatbuilder is making boats that no one wants to buy, then it goes out of business. Choice on both sides. The gov't shouldn't be using the boat buyer's money to give to the out-of-business boat builder because it wants keep a company going that makes things that nobody wants. Both parties are damaged.
A note to the 'green' crowd. You are the true conservatives, and should be voting republican. Ever hear of the 'cloth coat republicans'? Those were the folks, the everyday people who responsibly managed they lives, didn't buy what they couldn't afford, etc., and didn't rock the boat. Steady and reliable, just like the old cloth coat. They couldn't afford the fur coats of the elite, but they didn't complain too much, just went about their lives earning a living, supporting their families, etc. The green movement, the local foods advocates, the people who want everybody to ride bicycles instead of cars...they are all the true conservatives. Conservatives think that you should take care of what you have so that it will last longer or continue to be productive. Conservatives save plastic bread wrappers so they don't have to buy boxes of reclosable plastic bags. Conservatives help people when they see a need, and would not want to demand help from someone else (ie a govt program). (Conservationists are basically conservatives who think it's important to protect our environment so that we don't exhaust our resources...resources gone:economy gone.)
Compare the principles of George Bush and Obama...Bush gave up golf as long as there were servicemen in Iraq. He vacationed at his home in Texas, his wife didn't take expensive vacations requiring the expense and entourage of government assets and manpower. His house in Crawford is a model of conservationism, using construction methods and energy options that had little impact on the environment and used as little energy as possible. (Compare that to Gore whose hypocrisy as a 'environmentalist' is laughable when you look at the size of his house(s) and toys, the cost and energy use of his home and travel options, etc.) Look at how the current president and his wife live, while the country is hurting.
Conservatives donate money to help people who need it and think that charitable groups are much more responsible and thrifty in the way they manage what's GIVEN to them. Government TAKES money and doles it out after it's gone through a filter of layers of bureaucracy....what's left to benefit the recipient is a fraction of what was put in. Government is top down, charity is more local, and therefore is aimed at the need they see rather than the need they create or perceive.
Conservatives on social issues see value in what has worked since the beginning of time, and are slow (conservative) in changing things that might result in negative impact on the society as a whole.
When someone says he/she is a progressive, make sure you understand what they mean. Do you think they mean that they are realists and want to deal w/ issues that are current and real, be fair to all people, etc. Or do they mean they want to progress to a socialist government where your choices are gone and the government (group of elitists who think they know what's good for you) makes all your decisions?
Do you really want a government job, and what would that be? When you say the government should create jobs, do they mean a job that provides a living, hopefully in a job you are suited for, or is it a job pushing a pencil, figuring out how someone else should live their lives.
Give us a small government and lower taxes, and let us make our own choices. If we choose to be unproductive, it's our choice. If we choose to be addicts, let us pay the price. If we choose to start a business and hire a bunch of people, let us, but don't penalize us for wanting to make some money in the process... Government should be the referee, not a lead weight on the backs of the players.
and on and on....
How are Democrats supposed to fix the economy, again? - when so many Americans, mostly Republican, don't believe in Science, Cannot read past a 5th grade level, think the World is 6,000 years old and probably flat - and who think that spending half of our budget on the military (which by the way is more than every single other Country in the World Combined) is good thing.
Speaking of the Military - why did Chicken Hawk Dick Chenney receive 5 deferments? It was not because he had a bad heart - not 5 times.
Rethuglicans love to go to War - as long as the bushie twins or chenney or anyother punk ass chicken hawk has to go and do the actual fighting.
Cowards - one in all.
This is a desaster economy
scott,
Historically the Democrats have gotten us into war - that is until Bush, Sr. and Desert Storm and Bush, Jr. in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The neo-conservatives have control of our foreign policy in BOTH parties and we are spending ourselves into oblivion as our economy continues to get worse for the average American.
She must really be ticked off. Loyal soldiers normally stick around until after the mid-term elections. I remember that Reagan had the same problem with his head of OMB.
She was promised his ear but received only his hindside... how's that hope & change stuff workin' for ya?
I have to laugh when lib-tards use that term "progressives". There is nothing, absolutely nothing, progressive about their early 1900 socialist/communist ideas or agenda. As we're seeing in Congress now and in the Obummer Administration, everything they do is REGRESSIVE. Their regressive policies result in more poverty, more unemployment, more taxes, more regulations, more intrusiveness in our personal/private lives, weakness in foreign policy, weakness on national defense, less economic activity, more companies fleeing to foreign countries. The list goes on and on. If they can their ideology, which dates to the early 1900's 'progressive' and get away with it, (due to the media shilling for them at every opportunity), they MUST be voted out of office. Not just in 2010, but in 2012, 2014, 2016, etc.
I see they approved 30 billion more for public union workers yesterday. Trying to bleed the sick patient by adding more leeches. I think the prognosis is poor...
WHO TOLD SCOTT THE WORLD WASN'T FLAT?
I'm am just amazed at the democrats and how hard core brainwashed they are ...instead of pulling together to fix problems for Americans they keep bashing the other party...what they think is an education they recieved is really a brainwashing indoctrination to hate and attack fellow Americans of a different political persuasion ...its really scary...they see other Americans as the enemy...can't think logically ...ignore facts...geez ...you have controlled congress (the purse strings) for 4 years now...your policies have failed for all Americans ...its time to get back to fiscal sanity ...like spending only what you can afford....its amazing how they all attack when confronted with failure...what drugs are the democrats on or is it a mental derrangement
She seemed like a nice lady...... Sweet, most autistic people have that sweet look.
It's not her fault. She was hired by an idiot. ROFL
I'm waiting as the experts dig deeper and deeper through the healthcare bill to find out if there is a dental program for minorities that covers gold caps!
I will say one thing for this man. He concealed nothing about his past or where he intends to take this country in the future. All the evidence was there in plain sight.
What was missing was our "free independent press".
Yeah, Krugman! He'll make sure money is printed to oblivion and we get to live through hyperinflation, destroying the middle class, anybody who saves, all small business, etc. but a boon to the banksters and government socialists.
I can't wait!!!! Bring him on.
The economic ignorance on this board is staggering.
Romer or Summers??? Which is the Most Inept???
Summers claims " balancing the budget" under Clinton which is another TOTAL lie from the Inept White House ( Gingrich and Kasich forced the fired grom HAAVAD Summers to do it)
Romer.. naother academic LOON with no hands on experience sold uos the Stymulus as reducing unemployment to below 8%.... gues she could not find sufficient additional Government jobs for the Increasing Unemployed rolls...
Timmy G. the tax avoider along with Summers need to go find a " shovel Ready job" with with to continue shoveling their Crap!
Obama doesn't need Christina Romer; he's got Karl Marx as his economics advisor.
Socialism always fails. The $ is toast, and USA standard of living with it. We all will suffer together, the Grasshoppers and the Ants. This Ant is liquidating my business and buying Gold.
Another commie bites the dust. We are now one step closer to getting out of this mess. November will clean up many of the remaining problems.
All of you folks on here commenting that the government has not done enough don't understand that the government has done too much already. Bottom-up economics, redistribution, punitive taxation, call it what you will - never grows an economy.
This country is founded on The People's creativity and ingenuity to solve problems in return for profit. The Government is a terrible substitute for creativity and ingenuity.
The only thing the government needs to do is less of everything. Lessen taxes, get out of the way of the private sector. Stop demonizing success, as success leads to growth, hiring, and wealth creation.
Republicans aren't perfect, but the current leftist Democrat Party is an absolute economic disaster. November, get here quick!
What a lot of negatives out there, certainly born losers who cannot see further than their noses. These brain dead losers want everything done "pronto", no matter who is elected things will not change for the better in a year or even 5years, but there will be graduated increases in the economy every year for the betterment of the people, just like a new born, one must learn to walk first, especially after years of downwards trends as the U.S A has suffered.
There is only one way to go and that is "UP"so roll up your sleeves because you are soon to be leaving the house with your lunch box on a 5-7 workday.
Krugman as a replacement? Are you truly serious? You must either be smoking crack, writing for the NYT, or you're a talking head on MSNBC! Hasn't our economy suffered enough under the current Krugmanomics model? Why should we continue to lend credence to an economic theory (Keynesian) that has been exposed as a complete and utter failure?
Interesting. Maybe Congress and appointees are catching on - the real movers and shakers are the czars, The Center for American Progress, George Soros, Van Jones, Bill Ayers, Shore Bank, Barney Franks, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, Valarie Jarrett. Congress is irrelevant; if I was to serve in Congress, I would be scared out of my mind right now. Congress will begin to eat their own as we move closer to November. I wish the President well in transforming America. Wonder if the movers and shakers will refer to America as a Democratic Socialist country next year at this time. Oh yeah, and I wish the citizens who voted for this President great peace with their choice. Thanks a million!!
Perhaps 'The Savior' was confused by her being at Berkeley with all the other red diaper doper babies. He likely thought she was like most of his Marxists appointments who are life time Academics like him.
Where do you people get your kool-aid? Romer is one of the first rats to jump the sinking ship, watch for more rats as November approaches and a flood after obama gets neutered.
Krugman? Are you Leftists serious? Are you ALL looking for government, union jobs or what?
After 9/11 if anyone bought up the FACTS that Clinton let Osama go multiple times, never seriously went after Al-qaida when they were mestasizing(and he had every right and reason too),the left would go into a Frenzy!!!"How dare you bring up Clinton! Bush is the president now!!!"
Bush never once bought it up.He was in office less than 8 months when 9/11 occured(also funny how The clintons made "Path To 9/11" ,which brought up those facts, disappear from the face of the earth...but yaeh theres no media bias).Again he NEVER blamed Clinton.
But here we are 1.5 years into Obamas presidency and the Pres himself continues to blame Bush. And so do the same lefties who howled when anyone bought up Clinton/9-11
"Obama confronts the corporation"?
bwahahahahahaha! That's funny.
Corporations that line his coffers (e.g. unions) have unlimited access to the white house.
So he scolds BP publicly after they freely commit to escrow cleanup funds? Sure, lets harm the company that needs all the earnings they can get to clean up their own mess...
Wake up folks, corporations are usually not the enemy. Politicians are - their power far exceeds any corporation.
"Get Krugman"?!? Recall that his big solution to help the middle class was to inrease the minimum wage? Speaking of trolls.... Just another "spend your way out of a recession" lefty.
Doesn't matter if Romer stays or goes. Democrats (liberals anyway) know nothing about real world economics. And Krugman? He wants another $trillion stimulus (so called). Democrats, after all, orchestrated the financial crisis by, among many other things, orchestrating the subprime crisis, and fought the conservatives who saw the writing on the wall. Academics and liberals are the problem. Need some people with actual real world experience in there, not people who funnel vast sums of our money, and our grandchildren's money, to unions, for political patronage, and as political payoffs, and then call it a stimulus. Do you all understand just how disgusted common sense Americans are with the Obama administration? It's gone viral.
"They are on BOTH sides of the aisle!"
"That is a fallacy."
Really? Ever heard of Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Olympia Snow, Susan Collins, DICK Lugar, Thad Cochran - Progressive/Big Government enablers all! These are just a few RINO SENATORS, I don't have time to start with congress!
One more example of the disconnect Washington has to the public.
Fact: Academics do not generally do well in the understanding the needs of the public sector as the do not understand the realities of business 101 (no pun intended)
What is the saying.... those who can..do, those who can't..teach.
No guys. She probably realized that there are not enough trees in the Amazon to print money fast enough to pay for the endless war appropriations and the useless Mexican border drone projects where only defense contractors and government agencies cash in.
She probably sat in a bathroom and realized that toilet paper is more valuable than her dollar bills and that the Federal Reserve is a huge Enron that can't be hidden much longer.
As a reputed expert on the Depression, she probably knows one when she sees it coming, and doesn't want her name tied to it in future history books. Unfortunately (for her), she's already too late. The damage has been done and the die is cast.
She is an East-Street Marxist just like Summers the guy who put CITI Group in the tank.
The economy was ok until the sub-prime mortgage dabacle hit and money ran out, all caused by the the Democrat peddled CRA, ACORN ....etc. Obama another Easy-Street Marxist has deliberately turned a recession which should have been over a year ago, into a depression for political reasons with 18 million Americans out of job.
It was Obama's mentor Alinski that stated you must destroy the economy to make the people dependent on government.
It seems like Obama and his czars are good disciples. They certainly are destroying the economy, and I just saw yesterday that a record 40 million are dependent on the government for food stamps.
Heaven help us. Remember in November.
Gosh - I guess the Total Debt of the Country did not quadruple under Reagan, which forced Bush Sr. to "read my lips" and raise taxes anyway. Oh well.
I guess the National debt really did not go down under Clinton.
And I guess the National Debt really did not double under Bush Jr.
I am so glad that the Republicans have set me straight.
To all the liberals out there: Go ahead and get the JournOlist's Krugman - he's an idiot! He's already come out and said that perhaps letting the Bush Tax cuts expire isn't a great idea right now! Do you libs not understand that and the message it sends??? It says that perhaps the proof that has already been shown that raising taxes does NOT help the government raise money, or cut the deficit, or provide for all the social welfare programs you guys love so much, is finally being recognized by your economic messiah! Get a grip people! The guy who thinks that government spending is the way to get the government, and the economy, out of the debt that it burrowed itself into may finally be admitting that ...wait for it...he might be wrong! Oh no! Let's see...could it be that all those average Joe's who didn't even go to college to get an economics degree understand that if you have nothing, because you pissed it all away, that you aren't gonna make it better by borrowing from ANY lender (CHINA - the Federal Reserve, your children and grandchildren!) and it's just going to put them in a deeper hole are actually smarter than your messiah? Say it ain't so! Go ahead and bloviate all you want about economies on a national scale being different than on a personal or family scale, but guess what - it ain't! Money is money. Supply of money is supply of money. Psychology about spending money is the same regardless! The difference is that people in government have no problem spending YOUR money because ...wait for it...it ain't THEIR money and it keeps them employed as they buy votes with your money! This woman should've been required to take a personal finance test before she got control of the nations economic policies - she would've failed so stop your crying! Too good? Seriously, too good? Have you heard her talk about the "impressive job growth" and how "we're on the right path"???? Wake up idiots!
hey scott...
You may want to look into some facts: The fact that the debt went down in Clinton's years was NOT because of Clinton - it was because of the Republican controlled cCongress being in charge of the purse strings AND OH LET"S SEE what happened in that time frame...could it be that the Computer Revolution was underway and even Boss Hogg from the Dukes of Hazzard coulda presided over a time of wealth and prosperity if he was stopped from screwing it by a Congress that wouldn't let him screw it up??? Think about it. Try to put your "facts" in context of what was happening before you make yourself look like a partisan hack. Just a simple tip for you...have a happy Great Depression if the Republicans don't get a big swath of the open seats come November!
Sorry to disagree but she seemed very comfortable with the administration's approach and it has been woefully ineffective. we have a group of amateurs who are way over their heads..no she sees the handwriting on the wall...and in a panic, is jumping ship before it sinks! Krugman is no dope..he'll stay where he is
November may go down in history as the greatest poltical event since the first American Revolution! In ending my definition of Liberalism...a form of mental illness driven by elitist profoundly arrogant, non-rational if not anti-rational impulses and sentiments resulting in actions and policies that result in adverse unintended consequences..
Sadly the Republicans have no ideas and no policies - they're putting forward. Their policies of tax cuts did nothing to stave off the doubled deficit and nothing to stop the economic collapse. And they've offered nothing else.
What the Republicans have become good at is smear and attack politics, what they've mastered, and what is further eating away at the strength of the country.
Mike-
I wouldn't go that far with your description of liberals...but I would say this from experience and interactions with those of that mindset;
They do think:
1) government can and fix all personal problems
2) that they CARE more about people than others
3) that if you don't agree with them you are a monster personally as you obviously don't care about people or the planet.
4) they are good hearted and good-intentioned
5) they don't think things through thus the unintended consequences
6) they don't want the rules they make to apply to them
7) they are better than you
8) maybe they just rfuse to grow up -
I liken them to the kid who sees birds fly - notices that they fly and have wings so they think to fly you must have wings, so they put together human sized fake wings, get on a garage roof and jump off and then blame everyone else when they fail to fly without taking responsibility for the fact that they didn't think it through and investigate the whole thing. They then blame everyone who laughs at them and decide they'll get everyone back by..get this...doing it again with BIGGER wings! Hopefully you get the analogy!

We've already seen what the Republicans are capable of in government. We saw Rumsfeld 'lose' several billion dollars in the Pentagon just before 9/11. We've seen 9 BILLION 'misplaced' in Iraq with Halliburton with their hands right in the middle of it.
Nobody in their right mind wants more of that.
Romer is the wife of a high profile politician. It's the only reason she had the position to begin with
Good she should have never been hired. The defense of the stimulus in the absence of any solid evidence to point too has come down to nothing more than 'you cant spend that much money and not have an effect' that is a childish analysis to say the least.
We broke the Soviets by taking advantage of the inherent inefficiencies of their command economy. And we are currently breaking ourselves by forgetting that command economies are inherently inefficient. Any positive effect the inefficiently allocated resources have created has been more than canceled out by fear and uncertainty over the massive debt that it is creating.
As libertarians do not have a chance in the coming elections....I WILL TAKE REPUBLICANS OVER THE DEMOCRAT SOCIALISTS ANYDAY! You talk about 9 billion to Halliburton..okay - where's the big catalyst from the 800 billion that went in TARP funds that went to Democrat cronies for all kinds of special pork projects and have NOT done diddlysquat to help the American people - only the DEM supporters! on the old scale of worse of two eveils...I think the Repubs are sitting slightly higher towards Lady Liberty's head! The hypocrisy in Democrat circles is ridiculous! But I'm not hear to change your mind...but again ...maybe you should look into ACORN, the CRA, Barney Frank and his boyfriends bank account, Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac have stolen over 100 billion fromt he taxpayers already and where's your outcry on that? When I hear you guys say - shut down Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac tomorrow I might start listening to you. And BTW - how can you even support this Prez when his real chief adviser is Larry Summers? You talk about a Halliburton issue - without admitting that Halliburton is the only company that could've provided the services they did anyway - and yet you let your pres slide on that? Look in the mirror Paleta! I'm gonna make a bet you're a union guy as well!
The massive debt was created under the previous Bush administration - along with the economic collapse - which is far and away the primary reason for the further increase in national debt. So much for the magic of the Republican tax cuts.
What other policies do the Republicans have? Any?
Or just the politics of smear and attack?
Obama admin. is finished...repeal health care and financial reform bill...see you @ wash d.c. Aug 28th..restore honor!
..restore honor!
fernando | August 6, 2010 2:07 PM
You want to restore honor to the situation where Rumsfeld 'lost' BILLIONS of dollars in the Pentagon just before 9/11 and the Bush administration 'misplaced' 9 BILLION DOLLARS in Iraq with Halliburton with its hand in the middle of it?
That's honor? Sure thing.
Paleta- here's the point - which you libs obviously just either refuse to see or aren't smart enough to see...I'll use another person's analogy...if you're sick (the deficit) and you get to a point where you realize your doctor, whom you've seen for years, isn't helping the problem so you decide to leave him (the election) and go to another doctor who promises to help and gives you hope for change, you schedule appointments with him and he continues to do something about it, but prescribes a drug that makes you feel worse(called TARP and ObamaCare), and you ask him to give you something else, as all indications suggest his prescription and plan of attack to get you better is not working by all objective points of measure, do you stick with that doctor because he promises it'll get better so you need to hope for it to change, or do you move on to another doctor who has a history of making people in your condition better, ie pulling prescriptions out of the Reagan plan that proved to work in such situations? Or, do you just like your new doctors smile and promises of hopeful change, and feel so good about getting rid of your guilty feelings of sticking with the old doctor because you knew him, so you are gonna stick it out with this new doctor no matter what because you might have other people yell at you saying you "unfairly didn't give him enough of a chance", even though you're now filling out papers to get in the ICU room and begging your family not to pull the plug just yet?

DeMint Tries To Rewrite History: ‘This Was Not Bush’s Recession’
During a lengthy speech on the Senate floor yesterday about his opposition to the confirmation of Elana Kagan to the Supreme Court, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) went on a tangent, claiming the ongoing economic downturn “was not Bush’s recession” but was a “result of Democrat economic polices”:
DEMINT: The decision that have been made about our economy over the last couple of years have brought our economy to its knees. This is no longer something we can blame on President Bush. In fact, the Democrats have been in control of policy making, economic policy spending, for four years now. This is not Bush’s recession. This is the result of Democrat economic polices. This nomination will continue our move in the wrong direction.
Watch it:
Even the staunchly conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board understood it was Bush’s recession, writing in early 2009 that Bush’s comment that “Wall Street got drunk and we got a hangover,” “reveals how little the President comprehends about the source of his Administration’s economic undoing. To extend his metaphor, Who does Mr. Bush think was serving the liquor?” Even if one ignores everything after 2006, Bush still had the worst record of job creation in 40 years.
Moreover, the economy only began to recover after President Obama and the Democratic Congress passed the stimulus package in early 2009. Since then, the GDP has grown, the financial sector has recovered, and — while the overall employment situation is still bleak — private sector job growth has rebounded:
bikini chart2
In a recent report, two leading economists “empirically proved” that the Obama’s stimulus package and other interventionist measures “helped avert a second Depression.” Without the stimulus package, GDP would have been 2 percent lower and an additional 2.7 million jobs would have been lost, they found. Meanwhile, “On every major measurement” of economic growth, “the country lost ground during Bush’s two terms,” the National Journal’s Ron Brownstein observed, citing Census data.
It’s odd that DeMint — a tea party leader who has tried to distance himself from Bush — would defend the former president. Bush’s economic record is clear — “the worst track record for job creation” of any modern president, anemic income growth, and increased poverty — but as Republicans attempt to repackage Bush’s failed economic policies as something new, perhaps it’s not surprising that DeMint is trying to resurrect Bush’s legacy.
but prescribes a drug that makes you feel worse(called TARP and ObamaCare)
Anonymous | August 6, 2010 2:18 PM
TARP was Republican Bush's initiative.
Under Reagan unemployment was over 10% for 10 straight months and over 9% for 19 straight months.
The national debt quadrupled under Reagan.
Think again.
What policies do the Republicans have beyond their tax cuts which are still in place and basically were in place during a huge increase in deficit and national debt and an economic collapse?
Just a question for the liberals...Here's the scenario: I have no job - haven't had a job for years now wouldn't say I'm lazy but I just like the jobs that are out there so I've been collecting unemployment and living in my mom's basement...can I marry your daughter and take money from your family to make sure she has what she wants...I mean come on...she's your daughter right?
Comrades! Why such dissention? This is only a temporary setback! Why, Comrade Obama must have a new plan already in place! One must remember that it is not the reality that counts - only the perception. The wheat harvest will be the greatest in history! Everyone in America will receive a free house! There is no economic crisis!
Oh Pravda how perceptive you are! You must know that Obama is ready to pull out a political trick for election time where he will require Fannie and Freddie to forgive the money where you are underwater on your mortgage! American idiots will rejoice saying yeah I have not lost anything on my house now and I feel better because Obama bailed out Main Street. Stupid Americans! Too ignorant to understand that it's just more money on the deficit that they are responsible for but too stupid to understand! Ah, what you can do with useful idiots - buy voters votes with their own money! HAH HAh Hah comrades!
Under Reagan unemployment was over 10% for 10 straight months and over 9% for 19 straight months. The national debt quadrupled.
And yet Republicans tout this as the golden era of Republican rule and smear the current President.
This is the result of lack of knowledge of truth in history, denial or hypocrisy.
To BQRealityBites and all Republicans:

"Look, it's a big job taking on the Military-Industrial Complex and only corporate players get the key."
Not quite!
Fookin the MIC is fun and easy. We just need a constitutional amendment on War and how the US government wages it. The War Powers act is easily ignored.
What needs to be in that amendment is reducing the profits of the MIC when a war is declared. Make everyone involved take a pay reduction to 1$ per year. Just like they did for executives in WW2.
That will put an end to war profiteering. Ending the profits of war will end war. Or at least aggressive war. It won't matter in a defensive war, since survival is priceless. ALL wars happen because somebody is making a buck. ALL WARS. Take the profit out of war and you reduce the number and scope of wars fought.
This HAS to be done by Amendment, since if it is a normal law it will be ignored just as many normal laws are. It is human nature for those that make the laws to think they are above them.
That means a Article 5 Convention ( AKA Constitutional Convention).
Right now there are about 20 states that feel strongly enough about the Illegal Immigration ( not immigration, which EVERYBODY wants, but the illegals, which only Democratic politicians want) to vote for an article V convention.
That is more then 1/2 way there. Throw in health care and homosexuals and we (America) can get to the 2/3 required to call a Convention.
Cut the politicians out of the loop and regular, reasonable Americans can sit down and talk thru their differences.
The other alternative is a civil war.
Scott - the question is not who proposes the budget - it's who actually controls it - you need to go back to high school yourself. Congress adjusts the budget to reflect their priorities - if the President could just put together a budget and say "GO", then what does Congress exist for? I almost don't even want to give your idiotic statement a response but I'm sure you think you're smart and informed and it's my duty to make sure you are recognized for the fool you are. Your statement is like saying " If we change the rules of marriage to not say it's beetween a man and a woman but between two consenting adults, then that will open it up for people to marry sheep and lizards" Get a real argument!
The stock market crashed under Bush.
The stock market is WAY up under Obama.
Paleta-
Quick question Mr. History - what was the unemployment rate under Carter - who preceeded Reagan - leaving Reagan with a mess to clean up - which HE ACTUALLY DID! And, what was the interest rate back when Carter was President? Why don't you put those numbers and explain what it means oh Professor History??? Why don't you ask the people of Detroit if they were better off in Carter's years or Reagans? Are you better off now than you were four years ago? Do you see a better economic future for yourself and your children with the Dems in power? Be honest! I'm glad you "feel better about yourself", but are you actually better off? Think about before you answer and take into consideration that your President is the laughing stock of the Middle East and is seen as weak and apologetic and easily taken advantage of!
To libs,facts=smears+attacks.
But its ok to say Bush lied"HE BETRAYED US",its ok to say Palin banned books, her kid is not really hers, etc. And thats not from blog posters thats from people like Al Gore(the global warming liar...another nobel prize winner lol)and high falutin' leftwing rags like "The Atlantic Monthly".
But point out that sub-prime mortgages are a left wing creation(undeniable),and Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae were corrupted beyond belief by dems and obamas pals(again ,undeniable)and this was ,by far,the biggest cause of our economic problems its "SMEEEARS and LIIIES!!!"
Face it you created this tar baby, and now we are all stuck in it.
Quick question Mr. History - what was the unemployment rate under Carter . . . ?
BQRealityBites | August 6, 2010 2:47 PM
Are you incapable of research? Perhaps that's the problem. Unemployment barely got over 7% under Carter.
Under Reagan unemployment was over 10% for 10 straight months and over 9% for 19 straight months. The national debt quadrupled.
And yet Republicans tout this as the golden era of Republican rule and smear the current President.
What are the Republican policies beyond tax cuts which are STILL in effect? Any policies at all?
Who exactly was funding people who couldn't afford mortages?
Date: Monday, July 1 2002
President Bush announced an Administration effort to increase home ownership rates among African Americans and Hispanics by 5.5 million by 2010.
The plan would provide down payment assistance to 40,000 minority homebuyers each year . . . Bush's plan would be closely tied to some $440 million in minority loan programs offered by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. President Bush commended Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's efforts . . .
"What are the Republican policies beyond tax cuts which are STILL in effect? Any policies at all?"
Kick the dems out of Congress this year and send Obama to his MTV reality show in 12.

Again, no policies. Just attack and smear campaigns.
What are the Republican's policies. Anything at all?
Paleta-pointing to the stock market - with factually incorrect statements btw as it dropped to below 6700 in Bush's last year but turned around well before the election and then stalled in Obama's early months. The market is not healthy at all - if you had any real economic knowledge you would understand that a major portion of the "recovery" to 30% below it's high was psychological in nature - pure and simple and easy year over year and quarter over quarter comparisons have brought brokerages back into the market as they knew all along that the prices at the low did not reflect reality - just the idiotic retail customer pulling all his money out (that he had left) and sticking it under his pillow - to say that's a good thing is ironic coming from a Democratic as all the "retail" investors are your next door neighbors (the little guy) on "Main Street" - whom Dems pretend to love over Wall Street but we all know where the party's bread is buttered - I'm surprised you're not yelling at the Wall Street people who have made aprofit in the last year or two for doing so when the little guy hasn't gottent he relief because they were too stupid to understand how investing and the financial markets work and just think that they can hand their money over to someone and then it becomes the other guy's responsibility to make them money (oh no...not theirs but the other guys! - typical Democrat thinking!). And what has happened to the market lately? have you been paying attention or do you just have your money in your work 401k and you let them handle it? I'll tell ya what's happened - it's consolidated - waiting to see what happens in Novemebr - my prediction - Republicans get some power back - the market goes up slightly - the Dems keep control - hello nosedive city! Hey you know what? People who make money are evil! You should take your money out of your 401k as it's not fair that the guy down the street can't pay his bills - and you should give your 401k money to him! It's only FAIR!
Paleta, certainly the unemployment and interest rates experienced in the start of Reagan's term were caused by Carter. EVERYONE knows Carter was the worst President in our history (well, before BO starting stinking to high heaven).
Reagan's "proud to be an American", anti-liberal, anti-union, lower tax philosophy took a while to gain traction, but eventually generated 21 MILLION NEW JOBS and GENERATED RECORD REVENUE TO THE TREASURY. The fact that the Democrat Congress couldn't help themselves from spending it all, and more, is not Reagan's fault.
BO and the leftist Congress are spending more than all of the previous administrations combined, but have no hope of generating economic growth with their socialist economic theory. BO is the new worst President of the United States. Carter can retire with a smirk on his face.
Paleta-pointing to the stock market - with factually incorrect statements btw as it dropped to below 6700 in Bush's last year but turned around well before the election
BQRealityBites | August 6, 2010 3:01 PM
Nonsense. The stock market chart is publicly available and clearly shows the stock market falling from the last quarter of 2007 through to the first quarter of 2009 when it bottomed out.
Since then it has gone WAY up under Obama. People lost a lot of their savings during the Bush collapse.
Again, what policies do the Republicans have? Their tax cuts are still in place and were in place all the way through the economic collapse and the doubling of the national debt.
Anonymous:
Sorry - but you are the fool. My response was in reply to BQ who believes that Congress sets the Budget - apparently you are stupid as well.
Clinton balanced the budget - deal with it.
Rethuglicans steal everything not nailed down and then blame everyone else.
The American people have spoken and your party stands a about 25% approval - the same number of idiots who think the Earth is 6,000 years old and probably flat.
Oh Paleta - you just don't get it. So easily set up! Add the two indicators TOGETHER form the misery index...and guess what - under Jimmy Carter it reached a record high! Still the record! Reagan averaged 11.19 while Carter averaged 20.27! And Reagan decreased the index from the time he came (inheriting Carter's poor economy - which is what we're trying to correlate here - how Obama just complains about Bush yet makes it worse! and how Reagan took the crappiest economy we've had when measured through the misery index and made it tremendously better!!!!!) by over 10 points!! You want research on this site? Sorry - but I'm at work enjoying smacking down liberal economic idiots and haven't got the time to write a book. I guess it's easier to do that when you're waiting on the unemployment check to get delivered...go do some research of your own. I'll wait.
Democrats - Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Stephen Hawkins.
Republicans - Dale Earnhart Jr. (pronounced with 8 syllables,) David Duke, Larry Craig, David Vitter, Randy Duke Cunningham - the list endless
The national debt quadrupled under Reagan. As with Bush, largely due to unpaid for military spending and unpaid for tax cuts. Quadrupled the national debt! P.S. - Presidents are responsible for both preparing and ultimately signing budgetary expenditures.
Over 10% of the people were unemployed for 10 months straight under Reagan. Over 9% of the people were unemployed for 19 months straight! Far worse than anything under Obama.
Should we begin to talk about the illegal activities under the Reagan administration? The 'secret government' making policy decisions behind the backs of the American people.
Should we begin to talk about the propaganda lies of the Bush administration? The 'mushroom cloud' Bush used to manipulate the American population?
Thank God they are gone.
Paleta - let's just ignore the substance of the argument when there might be a mistatement (don't Democrats get to do misstaements?) so that you can focus on the mistatement. Point is, you know I'm right - the market is not something Obama should be taking a bow for - it's something he should be saying "why isn't this better and how can we make it better?" Get real.
BQRealityBites | August 6, 2010 3:20 PM
If you can't get your facts straight, don't blame the other guy.
Fact is the stock market is WAY up under Obama. People have regained a fair chunk of their 401 savings lost during the Bush collapse.
Republicans are a Joke -
Oli North is a convicted felon - and is turned into a "hero" by republicans and Faux News.
Hannity has a high school education, supposedly, and is another hero.
Palin went to 5 colleges in 5 years (who knew that was even possible) and maybe graduated with a degree in journalism - and her dream was to be a weather Girl.
Chenney - received 5 deferments when it was his turn to fight - that's right - 5
Bush - Alabama National Guard - at best.
What a bunch of pansies.
Here we go again"bush lied" *sigh* You do know that St.Clinton was on board with going into Iraq, until it became politically unpopular? You think he didnt see virtually the same intelligence Bush did?Puh-leeze
Why did the economy suddenly collapse within hours?Dont you find it funny the Dem controlled congress never investigated and held hearings about this?Asd you libs always said"I question the timing..."
Funny how it happened right after McCain started pulling ahead.
The Dems puppetmaster,George Soros(the nazi loving jew),is known for gleefully manipulating markets for his whims.Ask England about that.
So why no hearings?
Anonymous | August 6, 2010 3:25 PM
Bush didn't just lie he used propaganda about a "mushroom cloud" from Iraq to manipulate the American population. Same as Reagan's administration had a 'secret government' making policy decisions behind the backs of the American people. Republicans and the right think they have the RIGHT to do things like that - and the RIGHT to govern. They don't.
"Palin went to 5 colleges in 5 years (who knew that was even possible) and maybe graduated with a degree in journalism - and her dream was to be a weather Girl."
Yeah wow who knew some people actually had to work their way thru college.
How did Obama pay his way through 2 mega-expensive Ivy League colleges?
And what were his grades?
Funny we never heard about any of this stuff to this day.
But hey when the MFM is busy stalking Palins kids and looking in her uterus who has time to vet an actual President?
Anonymous:
I guess learning from history is boring to you - it would mean that you would actually have to read something and not just wait for Glen Beck to tell you.
Yes - Bush lied and he tanked the economy, with the help of other rethuglicans.
The American people have rejected you and Bush and your ideology.
If you don't like it - Leave.
America - Love or leave it.
Isn't that what you knuckle dragging, mouth breathing rethuglicans like to say?
Anonymous:
You idiot - Palin did not go to 5 colleges in 5 years because she had to work. She could have gone to 1 college in 5 years and worked.
She went to 5 colleges because she kept being put on academic probation.
Yes - Palin's kids were an issue - especially the one that was pregnant, out of wedlock. Why - Because she made it an issue by trying to stop any and all education about "sex" in schools - oh my.
I guess we should all raise our kids like Palin - I can see Russia from my porch.
How did obama pay his way though 2 ivy league schools?

She was a young girl enjoying life. And she didnt have Muslims paying her way.And she didnt go to POK-EE-STAN for spring break either.and LOL show me(besides some KOS post) where Palin wants to get rid of sex education. And hey i hope Obama gets to distribute breathalyzers to all kids with asyhma in all 57 states so,they can be epantsipated before they become corpsemen.I mean"his muslim faith" and all.

You win - good luck! You are going to need it.
This conversation is pointless.
America will be saddled with the likes of you and I suppose there is no amount of education that is going to change that - my fault for thinking there was hope for you.
Say hello to the Easter bunny and Santa Claus for me.
ok hello Obama.
Unicorns fart skittles now on rainbow clouds.
"America will be saddled with the likes of you and I suppose there is no amount of education that is going to change that - my fault for thinking there was hope for you"
Well if i can have a free and hidden ejukashun financed by rich saudis, and become editor of a prestigious journal without having actually written anything(hmm im thinking about a poem with apes crunching figs with their feets or something),ya think maybe then i can be as smart as you?huh?ya think?I swear ill take my teleprompter everywhere!
Anonymous -
ok - once more.
All Presidents have used teleprompters for the past 20 years.
Bush is the one who is best friends with Saudi Arabia - have you not heard of Bandar Bush? Apparently not.
Obama was vote by his peers and professors to be the Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
All Democrats are and will always be smarter than all Republicans - get over it.
You represent the party of "NO" and "Complain" - Please just sit down, shut up and let the grown ups handle this.
Be nice and quiet and maybe you will get a bed time story and we will leave your night light on for you.

What are the Republican policies other than juvenile name calling and smears? Tax cuts? Already in place, were in place during the doubling of the national debt and the collapse of the economy?
What else? Nothing but attacks and name calling? Pretty lame.
"A group of influential conservative members of the behemoth social media site Digg.com have just been caught red-handed in a widespread campaign of censorship, having multiple accounts, upvote padding, and deliberately trying to ban progressives. An undercover investigation has exposed this effort, which has been in action for more than one year."
Why would this not be surprising? Answer: low moral quality on the ridiculous right.
I say bring in Steve Forbes. Or run him in 2012. He's a progressive capitalist, which is what got him in trouble on his first run. He saw this coming but was too far ahead of the curve. A flat tax, where each of us pays "x" percent no matter how much we make, how many children we have, a mortgage, etc. (and no rich folk hiding place loopholes or write offs) might be tough medicine but FAIR. My 10% is the same as your 10% -- whether you make $10K or $100K is immaterial, 10% is 10%.
Oh wow that makes sense to me.

You have to be Karl Rove lol.
Get the Republicans and Democrats all, the hell out of Washington! They are really one party anyway. The Republicrats. They are controlled by the Banking Cabal that owns the (private for profit) Federal Reserve which had been raping the American Taxpayer since 1913. Washington needs to be flushed like a big ass commode.
Credit where credit is due. She has been castigated relentlessly by Robbing-America’s Economic Series for selling her soul to the devil - a soul that at Berkeley confirmed and published research that proved the effectiveness of tax cuts to increase growth and fight recessions.
While at the WH she did a 180 and toed the line of Summers and Geithner and Obama. We have seen the results. She paid the price for not having the "cojones", as Palin would say. She would never recover for her cowardice.
Go to http://www.robbingamerica.com where they have revisited the series.
Obama no doubt does not appreciate anyone telling him the economy has not entered the “summer of recovery” he pretends is taking place. He is clearly one who likes to surround himself with "yes men," and a "no woman" does not fit in.
"After 9/11 if anyone bought up the FACTS that "Clinton let Osama go multiple times, never seriously went after Al-qaida when they were mestasizing(and he had every right and reason too),the left would go into a Frenzy!!!"How dare you bring up Clinton!
And so do the same lefties who howled when anyone bought up Clinton/9-11"
I havent seen squat or pitabread answer this.or anything for that matter.just repeat the same ol dem talking points over and over again.Maybe u didnt notice..that worked in the age of Cronkshit and almost in Rather(nyahh nyahhh hahahaha) but it wont now.Answer the charges.
Conservatives beware. Stop the ideological warfare. Get together and defeat the Democrats or we're all doomed. The Democrats know the divisions within our ranks and will exploit them. All we want is to get rid of Democrats. Period. Hold your nose and vote for the most popular opponent that isn't a Dem. That'll get rid of Oblamer, Puleezee and Scary Harry very fast.....instead of infighting about what we believe in. Just get rid of them and THEN we can have fights about ideology. OK? Please?
Mikki Sanders: Sorry to hear you lost your job.
There are more than 15 million unemployed Americans. I'm one of them and it is not so easy to find a good-paying job.
There are at least 10 million illegal immigrant migrant workers who are taking previously good-paying jobs from Americans because they will work for $3/hour and no benefits.
From 2000 to 2005 there were 6 million (by now it is probably well over 10 million) good-paying manufacturing jobs outsourced from the U.S. to SE Asia (mostly to China - who has 230 million migrant workers and many are workers in factories (making less than $1/hour ad having to work 7 days/week, 12 hours/day just to survive) that make the poor quality HIGH profit margin junk that dominates the shelves in our retail stores, and supplies parts for many of the products that are assembled in the U.S.)
At the same time our government, during this bad recession when working Americans have been and continue to lose their jobs in droves, has not reduced the number of work visas issued for legal immigration to the U.S. - and the government admits that we need 150,000 jobs created/month just to keep pace with the increasing number of workers entering our job market.
It is no wonder there are so many unemployed/ underemployed Americans. But this is an issue caused by bad policies of both Republicans and Democrats over the past 30 years - the chickens came home to roost starting in 2008 and nothing will improve until we vote out the globalist/ corporatist crowd that is the majority of both parties.
BTW, Obama is more of a corporatist than a socialist - just look at healthcare reform. It was "needed" to rein in the cost of health care, but the end result is our premiums will go up even more as the big players (big pharma, medical supply companies, and trial lawyers) will see more profits as a result.
Look at illegal immigration - Bush, McCain, Hillary, and Obama all support amnesty instead of enforcement of our immigration policies.
Look at legal immigration - again all 4 supported increasing the number of work visas issued though we have more legal immigrants coming to the U.S. than ALL other coutries in the world combined allow into their countries.
Then look at the out-of-control outsourcing of jobs. Most incumbent Democrat and Republican politicians support policies that allow this to continue because they are all dependent on corporate contributions to fund their next campaign.
The us vs. them mentality needs to be adjusted from Democrat vs. Republican to the elitists that run the country and our government vs. the vast majority of working (and unemployed) Americans and small business owners.
IMO only a handful of incumbents truly represent the interests of the vast majority of Americans on most issues that are voted on in Congress, especially issues that affect the economy.
The economy is rigged to increase Wall Street profits at the expense of everyone else.
I forgot to mention that Apple is creating 200,000 jobs - at their new slave labor factory in China. That is where are good paying jobs went.
Obama is the worst president I have ever seen! He is destroying this country along with our economy-I fell for the speaches just like everyone else and boy do I regret that vote-it won't happen again-if any politician voted with Obama's agenda I will cast that vote against them. I see from other comments as well as genertal office & social chatter no one and I mean no one is supporting this guy!
Greg | August 7, 2010 9:16 AM
And what policies do you support Greg? Running the country is about policies and approaches.
Got a feeling you don't know.
Got another feeling your post is phony as a 3-dollar bill.
Ah, Scott...TARP was Bush's fault, but the Democrat party and especially Obama, voted in favor of Bush's biggest mistake as President. It was Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd calling Republicans racisits when they opposed the policy's of Fanny Mae and Freedie Mac, which got us in this trouble to begin with. I know...History is so boring...thats why liberals are so much more interested in art...the art of propaganda. As for Christina Romer(She makes Kagen look HOT!)...she said we could expect to get back $1.55 for every $1 of government stimulus spent, and that unemployment would never go above 8%. How could that food processor be employed even as a pofessor at Berkley(Moscow). Economists know that at most we get back only $0.80 of every dollar the government spends.
Curtis perhaps you would do well to study history a little better. Who was responsible for giving minorities taxpayers money when they couldn't afford downpayments of mortgages?
Date: Monday, July 1 2002
President Bush announced an Administration effort to increase home ownership rates among African Americans and Hispanics by 5.5 million by 2010.
The plan would provide down payment assistance to 40,000 minority homebuyers each year . . . Bush's plan would be closely tied to some $440 million in minority loan programs offered by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. President Bush commended Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's efforts . . .
Ano...tell the whole story...the Bush administration wanted to make sure that money had conditions...ie...ASSISTANCE for down payments, not 0% down as became the case, also, there were other conditions like income verification, etc...all of which Barney Frank and Chris Dodd railed against, and along with their willing accomplices in the media making the Republicans look like racists for demanding those conditions. Also, I believe the Senate was majority DEM at the moment, so nothing could pass without compromise...the one thing GW was all too willing to do with the Dems throughout his 8 years. What Bush failed to realize is that while he was trying to get along with Democrats, the Democrats saw him and the Republicans as the biggest enemy, even more so than terrorists, etc... Well, we Republicans learned at least that its our fellow Americans who call themselves "progressives" who are the main enemy...and will be treated as such in future. Things have changed in this country, and Dems will get major push-back and their own medicine. The next 10+ years will be very depressing for leftists in America.
Also, I believe the Senate was majority DEM at the moment, so nothing could pass without compromise...
Curtis | August 9, 2010 2:45 PM
Sorry Curtis, as with most of the rest of your post, you are wrong about this (research will give you actual facts and knowledge). The Republicans held the majority in BOTH chambers of Congress when the legislation was passed in December 2003 - and had held the majority since November 2002.
It is entirely a Republican initiative under Bush - and it provided taxpayers money to millions of people who couldn't even afford a downpayment, never mind a mortgage.
Read up on it, you might vote sensibly in the next election.
Curtis:
The Republicans and Bush passed the first TARP bailout bill, The Democrats and Obama passed the second TARP bailout bill. You're helping me make my point that both parties primarily take care of the politically well-connected at the expense of everyone else.
The us vs. them really does need to shift from Democrat vs. Republican to the politically well-connected vs. everyone else!
BTW, I'm a conservative Republican that is tired of our government spending us into oblivion. There is more than enough evidence to show that there is not a dimes difference in the 2 parties when it comes to taking care of only those who contribute much to incumbents' campaign funds.
