Latinos Blame Both Parties On Immigration Reform
More than a third of Latino voters blame both parties in Congress for not trying hard enough to pass immigration reform, and Latino enthusiasm for voting in this year's mid-term elections is down, a new poll shows.
Those findings of an election-year tracking poll by Latino Decisions -- released this week and to be updated weekly -- underscore Latino voter dismay over the lack of progress on immigration, an issue that ranks second in importance to them, behind the economy, says one analyst.
"They are frustrated with both parties, and it would appear from the goings-on in D.C. that they are right - both parties are ignoring or avoiding the issue," said Matt Barreto, director of the poll and a political science professor at the University of Washington, Seattle.
The telephone poll of Latino registered voters in 21 states -- which comprised 94% of the Latino electorate in '08 -- was conducted from Aug. 13 to Aug. 26, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5%.
Updated results will be released weekly each Monday leading up to the Nov. 2 midterm elections.
On the specific issue of immigration reform, congressional Democrats have the edge among the Latinos surveyed when it comes to being seen as working for passage. More than 32% credit Democrats for that, compared to 15.5% who said they saw Republicans doing so.
Democrats also were seen by a smaller percentage -- 14.3% -- as opposing or trying to block immigration reform, compared to 34% who said Republicans were.
But slightly more than 38% of those surveyed said they believe Democrats in Congress are either ignoring or avoiding the issue. And that's about the same percentage as those who said they believed Republicans are ignoring or stalling on the issue, nearly 36%.
Whether Democrats or Republicans, or neither party, will be able to seize on the immigration issue heading into the Nov. 2 mid-term elections is uncertain, given the mixed views.
Right now, most of the voters surveyed said they planned to vote Democratic. But a high percent remain uncommitted two months out, even though about 64% described themselves as Democrat, and only 24% said they were Republican.
Still, right now, only 52% said they planned to vote for Democrats in the upcoming House and Senate races, 23% plan to vote Republican, and 25% say they remain undecided.
Barreto also noted that while the previous midterm in '06 brought renewed interest in political participation among Latinos, followed by historic turnout levels in '08, the 2010 midterm election is not currently exhibiting the same trend.
While 76% of Latinos surveyed say they are following news and politics about the November elections closely, just 44% said they are very enthusiastic about voting. And a majority of those surveyed said they were less excited about both Democrats and Republicans today, than they were in '08.
While 32% say they are more excited about the Democrats since the '08 election, 51% are less excited today. For the Republicans, just 20% are more excited versus 60% who are less excited.
"Democrats have the most to gain (from the Latino vote) in the midterms, but the enthusiasm of voting Democratic that we saw in 2006 and 2008 is just not there as of now," said Barreto.
The biggest draw on the Democratic ticket in '08 -- Pres. Obama -- won't be on the ballot this fall. But enthusiasm for Obama also has been dropping among Latino voters.
The poll found that 64.6% of the Latino registered voters approved of the job being done by the president, which is down from 73% in March, and from his high mark of 81% at his 100-day mark as president.

What both these Republicans FORGOT to Mention in their SPIN POLITICS is that
It’s all about economics! Removing undocumented workers from the U.S. would total a loss of $1.8 trillion in annual spending and $651.5 billion in annual economic output, according to a study by the economic analysis firm The Perryman Group. It would cost about $28 billion per year to apprehend illegal immigrants, $6 billion a year to detain them, $500 million for extra beds, $2 million to judicially process them and $1.6 billion to transport them home. $230 Billion is the estimated amount it would cost over the next five years to enact the scenario of the mass-deportation caucus and deport the undocumented population, according to a report by the Center for American Progress. Legalization of undocumented immigrants would significantly expand the economy—by a cumulative $1.5 trillion in gross domestic product over 10 years. A deportation approach, by contrast, would have the cumulative effect of draining $2.5 trillion over 10 years from the U.S. economy. Illegal immigrants are paying their share of taxes, they pay the same taxes as you and me when they purchase anything, They don't carry a card that says Undocumented Immigrant, DON'T CHARGE TAXES
Start looking at FACTS & NUMBERS.
Who’s behind these laws?
FOLLOW THE MONEY$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Many may want them gone, but illegal immigrants in Oklahoma can be good business.
So say county officials who handle the purse strings of some sheriff's departments in the state. Millions in revenue for transporting and detaining immigrants for the federal government have financed jobs, departments and, in some cases, entire jails.
"It's a good business plan,” said Tim Albin, chief of the services division that oversees the budget for the Tulsa County Sheriffs Department. "It allows us to bank and put money back and carry over for other things.”

The Immigration Reform Law Institute, or IRLI, the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, drafted the Arizona law and most of the copycat bills. The Southern Poverty Law Center designated FAIR a hate group because of its founder’s writings, its repeated participation with white nationalist groups, and its receipt of major funding from a racist organization.
Copycat laws frequently rely on the work of attorney Kris Kobach, who works for IRLI. Kobach’s lawyering has cost localities who have hired him millions of dollars while the laws have been found unconstitutional. The Arizona law was brought forth by State Senator Russell Pearce, who the Arizona press has described as having a history of associating with neo-Nazis and sending anti-Semitic emails.
The facts are that there is no need to deport all illegal aliens. Just make E-verify mandatory for all employers and illegals will self deport. Cut off the employment magnet and there will be no need to spend money deporting millions of illegals.
The fact that AZ Governor Jan Brewer is more popular that a year ago, shows that Arizonian's as well as Americans, want our immigration laws enforced without the mirage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform a.k.a. Amnesty.
As it appears Latino vote is needed to president Obama but he is unwilling to do anything in return. Latino voters are not going to switch to republicans since they are even less likely to implement immigration reform and he knows it all too well. Therefore Latinos need to become swing voters for a democrat if republican is winning and for a republican if a democrat is winning thus effectively blocking any political process till their issue is resolved. They were asked to excercise patience maybe they should make politicians learn some patience since many elections in this country now decided by really couple of percent even 10 percent latino vote can have tremendous impact by not blindly siding with democrats but voting their interest. A lesson could have been learnt by Obama in Massachusets - if more latinos were happy they'd vote for a democratic candidate given needed couple points.
After all illegals are nothing but slaves most americans want. And slavery was abolished throughout history of the world only when slave became more of a nuisance then help - they became hard to control didn't look well after master's tools and so forth.
So by becoming political nuisance can only latino voters show to be a force of their own not some tools in republicans' or democrats' arsenal.
Watch polls, watch states and vote accordingly so there's always almost even number of dems and republicans in Congress so nothing could be done till the issue of immigration reform is addressed.
Most of us need jobs and your job went to China so you will need to go to China and slug it out there with chinese for your job. You may stop buying chinese made goods but the whole world will not so you won't be able to sell anything.
The only way you could compete with China is if you have an avaliable pool of cheap labor here which immigrants are that's why this issue of amnesty is dangled in front of their faces so even more keep coming here.
Outcries like yours will only help legalize them since it brings the problem up and politicians will reluctantly have to do something while they're quite satisfied with status quo.
All those idiots who said let s deport the all,you dam asses, you know that if all these so called (illegals)leave this country,America will fall into depression,if you think recession was bad, wait till 11millions or so leave,if you own a house it will sit empty,if you own store you sit on your ass with no business....Think about it,even the states/counties will loose huge amount of money....
Think it over you idiots out there.....
